INTRODUCCION Para conocer y entender adecuadamente las características de los suelos en ingeniería, se hace necesario realizar diferentes estudios y laboratorios que permitan determinar si un material es bueno o no, según la necesidad de uso y atributos que se descubrirán por medio de estudios como el que se presenta en este laboratorio. El objetivo principal de este laboratorio radica en aplicar los parámetros que establece la norma para el cálculo de los índices de plasticidad, donde se incluyen el límite plástico; el cual se mide en el laboratorio mediante un procedimiento normalizado pero sencillo que consiste en medir el contenido de humedad para el cual no es posible moldear un cilindro de suelo , con un diámetro de 3mm y el limite líquido, líquido, que se mide mediante un proceso en que la mezcla de suelo y agua, capaz de ser moldeada, se deposita en la Cuchara de Casagrande, y se golpea consecutivamente contra la base del aparato, haciendo girar la manivela, hasta que la zanja que previamente se ha recortado se cierra en una longitud de 12mm, asimismo los resultados obtenidos son los los que que posteriormente nos permiten llegar al cálculo de la plasticidad. Por lo que se refiere a la clasificación de los suelos, se puede decir que es una categorización sistemática de suelos basados en características distintivas y en criterios de uso. Una clasificación de suelos es muy dinámica, en sí mismo de la estructura del sistema, a las definiciones de clases y finalmente en la aplicación a campos. Este informe trabajara con los datos obtenidos de la granulometría y la plasticidad, con las cuales es posible determinar el tipo de suelo estudiado. Como se podrá entender el estudio del suelo es una tarea fundamental para comenzar trabajos de construcción, en esta ocasión se describen propiedades del suelo como la plasticidad y se realiza la respectiva clasificación según su la

1. MARCO TEORICO 1.1.
Limite líquido
Es el contenido de humedad para el cual el suelo pasa del estado liquido al p1stico. El ensayo que permite determinar el Limite Liquido consiste en colocar diferentes muestras de suelo, con humedad variable, en un recipiente o taza met1ica accionada por medio de una manivela, que la levanta y deja caer bruscamente repetidas veces, sobre una base de madera dura, como muestra la figura 1 a).[1] Antes de iniciar cada ensayo, en la muestra de suelo se hace una ranura de determinadas dimensiones con una espátula de goma y se cuenta el número necesario de golpes para que la abertura cierre 1/2”. Los datos se grafican en
cada caso y cuando la curva obtenida corta la línea correspondiente, a los 25 golpes se considera este valor como el limite liquido del Suelo. Ver figura 1 b.[1] Para determinar el contenido de humedad de las muestras, estas se pesan primero en su estado natural y luego, después de haberlas secado en estufa a 110ºC, de modo que la diferencia en peso permita conocer la relación porcentual de humedad del suelo.[1] Como la cohesión del suelo retarda el cierre de la ranura, esta prueba resulta un índice de la cohesión. Las arcillas arenosas tienen valores bajos del Limite Liquido (alrededor de un 20%) por lo cual esta prueba no resulta de importancia en la determinación de la capacidad portante del suelo. Por el contrario, los limos y arcillas evidencian Limites Líquidos del orden de hasta el 80 o el 100%.. [1]

Limite plástico
El Limite Plástico de un suelo es el contenido de humedad para el cual se cambia del estado plástico al semisólido. En el estado plástico el suelo es fácilmente moldeable, mientras que en el semisólido se deforma agrietándose. El Limite Plástico queda definido cuando el suelo contiene justo la humedad necesaria para que al amasar manualmente bastoncitos cilíndricos de 0,3 cm de diámetro, éstos no se resquebrajan.[1] La prueba para determinar el Limite Plástico consiste en ir probando diferentes porcentajes de humedad en el suelo, e ir amasando los bastoncitos, hasta que esto suceda. El Límite - Plástico está controlado por el contenido de arcillas a los que no permitan realizar esta prueba, no tienen Limite Plástico y se designan suelos no plásticos. Esto ocurre con algunos limos y arenas. [1] Cuando un suelo posee Limite Plástico, significa que está formado principalmente por ardua o arcilla limosa y el contenido de humedad en ellos determina la magnitud de su capacidad - portante, la cual crece rápidamente a medida que la cantidad de agua disminuye, y viceversa. Por ello, dependiendo del régimen de lluvias, la capacidad portante de los suelos con Limite Plástico varia a lo largo del año en ciertas regiones del mundo, por lo cual se deben tomar precauciones acerca de los datos suministrados en ingeniería de suelos. Índice de Plasticidad
Es un parámetro físico que se relaciona con la facilidad de manejo del suelo, por una parte, y con el contenido y tipo de arcilla presente en el suelo, Por otra: Se obtiene de la diferencia entre el límite líquido y el límite plástico: IP = LL – LP > 10 plástico. IP = LL – LP < 10 no plástico. Valores Menores de 10 indican baja plasticidad, y valores y valores cercanos a los 20 señalan suelos señalan suelos muy plásticos. muy plásticos. [2] [2]

1.4.1. Análisis por tamizado. Una muestra representativa de masa conocida de suelo se pasa a través de una serie de tamices estándar con aberturas cada vez más pequeñas y luego se mide la masa retenida en cada uno de los tamices. Con este resultado puede calcularse el porcentaje de la masa de la muestra que pasa a través de cada tamiz para representarlo en función de la abertura correspondiente. La tabla 1 muestra los tamices utilizados normalmente para la medición del tamaño de las partículas; de este rango se seleccionan los tamices apropiados para estudiar un material en particular. [3] Si el suelo contiene partículas de limo y arcilla, la muestra se trata primero con un agente de floculante y se lava atraves de algunos tamices escogidos para separar los finos. Sistemas de clasificación de suelos.
Numerosos sistemas de clasificación de suelos se han propuesto en el transcurso de los años, pero no existe un sistema reconocido internacionalmente. En los Estados Unidos los sistemas los sistemas más utilizados son el sistema unificado de clasificación de suelos y el sistema de clasificación AASHTO.[3] El sistema AASHTO fue desarrollado originalmente por el US Bureau of public Roads en la década de los años veintes dirigido a establecer la conveniencia de un material para su utilización en la construcción de carreteras.
