Vishwamitra Rishi, Gayatri Chandah, Brihaspati Devata Rig Veda 6.62.6 In the words of Sri Aurobindo Ghose “To translate the Veda is to border upon an attempt at the impossible.” In fact every interpretation seems to be apt from the angle and depth of understanding of the translator, yet is grossly deficient in the higher spiritual thought that is impersonal, universal and full of symbolism. You do not understand Vedic mantras by looking up dictionary and grammar books and finding the literal meaning or speculating on the esoteric meaning or purport. You understand Vedic mantras by taking one mantra at a time and meditating on them with the fullest intensity and deep focus as though nothing else exists in the world and then whatever you experience at the pinnacle of your focus when you let everything go (including your self-awareness) is the actual meaning of the mantra. (PVR Narasimha Rao, author of JHora software) For fearful situations, for dispelling fear strengthens our intelligence and also helps us perform only right and good karma. Caatana: means driving away and refers to the power to make the evil vanish or drive away the demons that haunt. The famous Caatana verses of the Atharva Veda are for experts only which are meant for exorcising demons. However, normal people should stick to Brihaspati for protection from all the dark forces. Abhishasti-caatana: keeping off imprecation RV. iii.3.6 [This is the same book III of RV which has the Brihaspati Gayatri and the famous Savitur Gayatri mantra]
Samadhi
• Samadhi (Sanskrit: सिमाध ) is a Hindu and Buddhist technical term that usually denotes higher levels of concentrated meditation, or dhyana, in Yogic schools, and is considered a precursor for enlightenment, or Nirvana, in Buddhism. It is the eighth and final limb of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, and comprises the pinnacle of achievements in Samyama, the three-tiered practice of meditation including also dharana and dhyana. It has been described as a non-dualistic state of consciousness in which the consciousness of the experiencing subject becomes one with the experienced object, and in which the mind becomes still (one-pointed or concentrated) though the person remains conscious. • Savikalpa Samadhi is the identification with the manifest ONE, Saguna Brahman. • Nirvikalpa Samadhi is identification with the unmanifest ONE in which the self disappears, dissolving in the Great Deep. How to make a chart • • • • • • • • • • •
Red color brings sattvah guna, it reflects yellow. Black brings rajas guna, reflects white. White brings tamas guna, cannot be seen. The right red is sinduri, vermillion. The lines are drawn in black and the grahas are written in vermillion red. Write Om at the top Draw two horizontal lines Draw two vertical lines Add the 4 rays starting with Northeast corner (upper left) Draw the rest of the chart with glyph of the planet going counter clockwise through the chart, starting with lagna. Don’t put a box around it, it is limiting.
Signs and Houses • The Golden rule: • Each SIGN has a planet that OWNS it. • Each HOUSE has a planet that SIGNIFIES it. • Signs are fixed in the surya chart that we use, while houses move according to the ascendant. • Example charts
Dusthana- houses of suffering • 6th - weakness, punishment, strife, enemies, disease based on bad habits • 8th – death, shock, past life mistakes, sorrow, long term illness • 12th – loss, theft, secret enemies, what we must give up to repay past debts. • 8th and 12th are also moksha houses, so 6th is the worst
Houses of growth- Upachaya • • • • • • • • • • • •
Increase, accumulation, growth Help us to fulfill our objectives Houses of free will, free choice Karma we create 3,6,10,11 (relate to Mithuna, Kanya, Makara, Kumbha) Ruled by Budha and Shani in natural zodiac. Budha signifies learning, Shani signifies karma, work 3rd house is a kama house, shows our desires, action, weapons, 6th house is an artha house, shows weaknesses, hard work, punishment, strife 10th is the main karma house, shows profession, one’s actions in society 11th is a kama house and shows gains, what we take. From a material perspective this is a good house, from a spiritual perspective it is bad If the lord of a house is in an upachaya house, we will suffer because we use our free will in that area.
Anupachaya houses • All the houses that are not Upachaya houses • 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,12 • This is where our past karma is manifesting, include our birth (1 st house) • We have no control and cannot decide when we shall reap these karmas.
Trike houses – 3,6, 11 • Our creator put 3 seeds of error in us- represented in the chart by houses 3,6, and 11. These cause our rebirth. • 3rd house shows deva dosha- mistake of devas • 6th is rakshasa dosha – mistake of evil spirits • 11th house shows manusia dosha- human mistake • These are our three failings, the reason for our creation. • Flaws of the 3rd, 6th, 11th house– enjoy, fight, gain • Kama and artha houses • These are the strong signs for Rahu in the natural zodiac. • “Klim” takes you out of the trike state • Where 6th lord goes shows immature unwise decisions. • 6th house is stomach, what are you seeking to digest? • If no planets in these houses, take the lord.
