TOPIC – 5 STAR ECO-HOTEL NEAR UPCOMING NAVI MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

INTRODUCTION
A hotel is an establishment that provide paid lodging on a short-term basis. It Facilities provided may range from a modest-quality mattress in a small room to large suites with bigger, higher-quality beds, a dresser, a fridge and other kitchen facilities, upholstered chairs, a flat screen television and spacious bathrooms. Small, lower-priced hotels may offer only the most basic guest services and facilities. Larger, higher-priced hotels may provide additional guest facilities such as a swimming pool, business center (with computers, printers and other office equipment), childcare, conference and event facilities, tennis or basketball courts, gymnasium, restaurants, day spa and social function services. The Indian tourism and hospitality industry is one of the major factor responsible for growth among the services sectors in India. It contributes to 6.23 percent to the National GDP and 8.78 percent of the total employment in the country. Eco hotels is above normal hotels because the Eco hotels contribute less amount of greenhouse gases to Atmosphere when compared to normal hotels. The Ecotel has better features like Solar Panels to generate electricity, Rainwater Harvesting system to supply water for toilet or plant trees, Roof Garden rick in shrubbery to provide extra insulation, Wind power to generate electricity for hotel, use of Recycled materials etc.
PROBLEM 1. Navi-Mumbai only has three 5star hotel & all of them are not sustainable. 2. All 5star hotel are very far from proposed Airport (lack of proper accessibility). 3. Navi-Mumbai & Its surrounding has many tourist spots but lack of many luxury hotels may ruin tourism & its loss of Indian tourism. 4. All the normal 5star hotel generate huge quantities of waste and there is need to come up with sustainable hotel practice (Ecotel) and the green concept of hotel should increase in coming future. 5. Mumbai among world’s top trending tourist spots for 2017 (www.indianexpress.com & Maharashtra Tourism Survey report), So in the coming future Navi-Mumbai will also be the contribution for same.
PROBLEM STATEMENT There is a need of 5 STAR ECOTEL near upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport which will overcome the lack of 5 Star hotel facility & it can enhance tourism.
HYPOTHESIS Navi-Mumbai only has three 5-star hotel i.e. in Vashi, CBD Belapur, Kharghar. So, there is need of a 5 star hotel near upcoming Airport and it’s also proposed by CIDCO (City & Industrial Development Corporation). 1. Many developments are taking place in Navi Mumbai and Raigad area for Tourism purpose but lack of 5star hotel may be a problem for international travelers ( Eg- Navi Mumbai Marina). 2. None of the 5 star hotel is in Panvel which is very close to upcoming airport so it‘s proposed by CIDCO itself. 3. When compared to the City like Mumbai there are around fourteen 5-Star hotel in radius of 3KM from Airport & many more 3 stars too. So the Navi-Mumbai should also have luxury hotels in its surrounding which is easily accessible to it.
AIM
To Design a 5star hotel which indeed is required to be planned near proposed Navi-Mumbai Airport with sustainable practice.
OBJECTIVE
To complete lack of 5star hotel facility near proposed Airport. To come up with Sustainable 5Star hotel practice (Ecotel) which will include following requirements1) Energy Efficiency. 2) Most cost effective. 3) Waste reduction. 4) Sustainable design. 5) Less carbon emission.
OBJECTIVE JUSTIFICATION The purpose of learning about Ecotel is that in this age where global warming has been a cause of concern in the world. This can be a solution/measure taken up by hotel industry to come in terms with the environment. Ecotel hotels are also said as hallmark of environment sensitive hotels. “ECOTEL is a great concept that any Hotel should be after”. Ecotel is a new concept in hospitality that claims to work for environment protection and preservation. All eco-certified hotels must pass a detailed inspection and satisfy stringent criteria designed by environmental experts. The Ecotel certification process requires undercover inspections and staff interviews. The first Ecotel certified hotel was hotel NEW YORK VISTA in the year 1994. MR VITHAL KAMAT of KAMAT GROUP OF HOTELS brought the concept of ecotel to INDIA through his hotel known as Hotel Orchid. Hotel Orchid was the first Ecotel certified hotel not only in MUMBAI and INDIA but also in ASIA. International, the 5 key areas for ecotel certification were inspected. Incidentally, the Five Globe Ecotel Certification Awards have been given to a few select hotels the world over. In Asia, the first Five-Globe Certification award went to the Orchid Hotel, Mumbai.

Ecotel hotels are defined as “a hotel or accommodation that has made important environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimize its impact on the environment”.
The main aim of hotels is profit maximization with customer satisfaction.
The main aim of ecotel hotels is to build a healthier environment along with profit maximization and customer satisfaction. They give more emphasis on environment friendly aspects.
PRODUCTS USED: Hotels mostly prefer branded products to build their image.
Ecotel hotels use products that are environment friendly and cause minimal harm to the environment
WASTE MATERIALS: The waste, which is generated in hotels, is thrown away as garbage
In ecotel hotels the waste, which is generated, is segregated as dry and wet garbage and is recycled and used properly.
CONSTRUCTION OF HOTEL: The construction of a hotel is in a way to give posh look .
Ecotel hotels are constructed keeping in mind their eco norms.
EFFECT TO THE ENVIRONENT: Normal hotels indirectly cause harm to the environment
Ecotel hotels are also called as eco-friendly hotels as they help in ecological balance
MODUS OPERANDI (METHEDOLOGY) Firstly, I would study the basic needs of Ecotel including SITE REQUIREMENTS AND CONTEXT for same.
