Grade One Islamic Studies Worksheet 7.4 (Part 2) Surah Al-Ikhlas
We shall look a little more at the meaning of Surah Al-Ikhlas.
î‰ my r & ª! $# θ u è δ ≅ ö≅ è% ∩⊇∪ ‰ Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, In this verse Allah refers to Himself as Ahad (One). He doesn’t use the word Wahid which also means one. There is a difference between these two words.
Ahad is a word which lets us know that they are no others like it anywhere. Wahid can mean that there is only one here but there can still be another one somewhere else. When we talk about one of something in the creation, it does not mean that there is not a similar one somewhere else. But when we talk about Allah and we say that He is One (Ahad), it means that He is One and there is no other like Him.

߉ yϑ ¢Á ∩⊄∪ ‰ Á9 $# ª ! $# Allah, the Eternal Refuge. When we say that Allah is Al-Samad (The SelfSufficient) it means that He is perfect in everything about Him and that all of creation is in need of Him. Even those people who don’t realise that they need Allah and those people who don’t worship Allah, they are in fact all in need of Him every second of the day. Allah is so perfect that even although we all need Him, He is not in need of us. We depend on Him for everything yet He doesn’t need anything from us.

Allah tells us here clearly that “He does not give birth nor was He born .” Allah does not have sons or daughters and He Himself is not the son or daughter of anyone else. Page
