At some point in a person’s life, they go through the volatile years of being a teenager. From family life growing ever more conflicting to coming to the realization of the social world around you, many life changes are experienced both mentally and physically. In Through it All by Giselle Mills, 2017, the main theme in essence explores the life experiences of young Andreide, a sixteen year old and all the events she goes through in life such as dealing with a dysfunctional family, the somewhat racist and classist social system in which she lives and the sexual experiences of dealing with a boyfriend and male affection. This journey spans twenty (20) chapters and an epilogue. The following review of Mill’s work, Through it All will include the exploration of key issues brought out in the book and how the presentation of these issues may be used to understand the Caribbean context.
