Prefix FCON iS is an engine management system that controls fuel injection volume and ignition timing in order to improve performance of tuning engines. Injector signal, Igniter signal, Air Flow Meter signal and Car Speed signal, which are output from stock ECU, are input to FCON iS. Maps which axis are Rpm, Air Flow Meter signal, (Option) Pressure Sensor signal and Throttle signal are used to output calculated Fuel injection volume and ignition timing for each specified engine. This document explains about basic functions and input parameters of FCON iS. Refer to FCON iS PowerWriter Manual about editing maps and data. Swith settings for each vehicle are in "FCON iS Switch Setting Manual". Before installation of FCON iS, please always refer to the manual in order to make sure switch settings for the vehicle.
CAUTION Wrong harness connection or switch setting might cause engine failure or other damages of vehicle. Set correct stitch settings for the configuration. Before installation of FCON iS, set switch settings according to "FCON iS Switch Setting Manual". Damage of FCON iS or vehicle caused by misuse is out of warranty. FCON iS is a product to control engine. Make sure the connection. ・Double/triple check switch setting of FCON iS to ensure the setting. ・Do not use SPLICE CONNECTOR. (It might cut wire or cause connection problem.) ・Connect wires firmly with bullet connector or solder. ・Tape to cover connected part to prevent shortcircuit.

Functions of FCON iS Basic Functions *1
・Fuel signal and Ignition signal are controlled with trim maps of FCON iS. ・Modification of Air Flow signal enables cancellation of stock boost cut. ・Modification of Car Seed signal enables cancellation of stock speed limiter.*2 ・There are two independent Option Voltage Outputs (5V) that can be output by load of engine or rpm. ・A/F, O2 Monitor, Logging Function of each trim value. ・AIC Function that controls up to 2 additional injectors. Additional Functions of FCON iS Video Output・・・・・・・・Inside data of FCON iS such as sensor signals can be displayed on onboard monitor. When DB Meter Chrono, RS are connected, sensor data from meters can be shown. Addition of Trim C Map・・・Scramble Map can be used as Trim C map for normal mode. Addition of AIC Fuel Cut condition・・During operation with AIC Function, when main injection is cut, AIC output can be cut simultaneously. Addition of NVCS Water Temp condition・・Water Temp condition was added as a condition for NVCS control. Addition of Injector Output Dead Time map・It enables easy engine starting when injectors were changed. *3
Functions with FCON iS Communication cable (Option)
Check of CloseLoop value, Trim value, Ignition Timing・・・・Fuel Trim value, CloseLoop value, Ignition Timing of stock ECU can be checked on Data Monitor of PowerWriter or VIDEO Output. Cancellation of stock ECU CloseLoop・・・・・・・It trims so that Fuel Trim value of stock ECU CloseLoop will be 0. With this function, it can be possible to do fuel setting for vehicles, which ECU controls Estimation CloseLoop control for high load area. With OSC, Fuel increasing for CloseLoop area of stock ECU ・・・・If OSC is connected, fuel can be increased for CloseLoop area of stock ECU.

If injector output of stock ECU is 100%, fuel decreasing trim is not possible. In order to decrease, with FCD Function, injector output from stock ECU needs to be cotrolled to be less than 100%. It does not work for some vehicles. For Japanese vehicles with ISO14230 Diagnosis connector. (It cannot be used for some vehicles.)

Fuel Management
Injector drive pulse width of stock ECU is detected. (Input Pulse Width)
Injector Dead Time (map inside FCON iS) is decreased from Input Pulse Width to calculate Effective Pulse Width.
Effective Pulse Width is multiplied by Trim value from FCON iS map. (Compensated Pulse Width)
Injector Dead Time (map inside FCON iS) is added to Compensated Pulse Width. (Output Pulse Width)

Fuel AIC Management Up to two additional injectors other than stock injectors can be driven by FCON iS. Two additional injectors inject once every 2 RPM signal pulse.
RPM Signal
AIC Output#1 (Pin#63) AIC Output#2 (Pin#64) Injection Time If it is 6 cylinders engine, it injects once every 240 degree crank angle [CA]. If it is 4 cylinders, it injects once every 360 degree crank angle [CA].
Standard Injection Time is calculated from AIC Injection Time map.
Standard Injection Time is multiplied by AIC Water Temp. Trim and AIC Intake Air Temp. Trim.
AIC Injector Dead Time is added. (Output Pulse Width)

Used for each Trim map
Signal from Air Flow Meter is input to FCON iS and used for processes of Air Flow Conversion Function, EIDS Funct ion and FCD Function in order. Then, it is output as Air Flow Input of stock ECU. In case of RB26DETT, which has two air flow meters, each Air Flow Output value is used for Air Flow Conversion map. Other trim maps (Fuel, Ignition) use average value of both air flow input voltage. Air Flow Conversion map can be used for slight adjustment when there is a difference of air flow meter output due to change of intake layout or any other reasons. When intake pipe or blow off valve are changed, Air Flow Meter signal may not be output correctly. In this case, when throttle is closed, fuel setting becomes wrong and engine stalls. With EIDS map, air flow output when throttle is closed is fixed at the value in EIDS map to prevent engine stall. FCD map sets maximum (minimum that stock ECU cuts fuel when air Over the FCD map value, since ignition timing are required with

Air Flow Conversion Function and EIDS Function can be activate or deactivate with "AIR FLOW" Parameter of PowerWriter. Car Speed Sensor Management It is the function to cancel Speed Limiter of stock ECU. Car speed is calculated with number of Car Speed Pulse and when car speed is more than SLD Speed, pulse that is equal to SLD Speed is output as Car Speed Input of stock ECU.

When Ignition Switch is ON, if volume switch of Mixture Controller unit does not match with Immobilizer Channel, Fuel Injection Volume will be fixed at 90% and engine does not start. Fuel Trim Map・・・・・・・・ Select Trim Map to compensate Fuel Control. Trim Y Axis・・・・・・・・・ Select Y Axis of maps from Air Flow, Option Pressure sensor and Throttle. Trim A Setting・・・・・・・・Select the way to select a Fuel Trim A map. It can be selected by Dip Switches or a map can be fixed here. Trim B Setting・・・・・・・・Select the way to select a Fuel Trim B map. Injector I/F Coefficient Time・For some vehicles, if Fuel Compensation is 0[%], A/F Ratio may show richer than stock ECU alone.(Lancer Evolution I -III, FD3S Early Model) At idle, if there is a difference between A/F ratio of stock ECU alone and A/F ratio at 0[%] of Fuel Compensation of FCON iS, change the value so that the difference will be minimum. *Functions in FUEL2 tab require connection to OBD2 Diagnosis of vehicle with FCON iS Communication Cable. CloseLoop Cancellation Map・・・・・・ It can cancel CloseLoop Function of stock ECU to stabilize CloseLoop value at high load if the vehicle use low load CloseLoop value for high load control. CloseLoop Cancellation Map Y Axis・・・Set axis from Air Flow, Option Pressure Sensor and Throttle. CloseLoop Condition Pressure CloseLoop Condition Air Flow CloseLoop Condition Throttle・・・・・ If all selected items are more than set values, it is judged as OpenLoop area and CloseLoop Cancellation Trim Map value will be deactivate. OpenLoop (minus) Correction OpenLoop +(plus) Correction・・・・・・In OpenLoop control at high load, if CloseLoop value of stock ECU is more than the value, CloseLoop Cancellation Trim works. Parameters for A/F Feedback. When A/F Sensor output is input to FCON iS, A/F Feedback Function that will shorten setting time of Fuel Control, can be used. Connect A/F Sensor or Voltage Output Wire (Pink) of A/FKnock Amp. to GCC Connector of FCON iS. Set Parameter and A/F Conversion Table in order to Monitor or Log Air / Fuel Ratio and use A/F Feedback Function. Input Target A/F Value in A/F Map. A/F Feedback works under following conditions. Since FCON iS compensate against Fuel Injection Pulse of stock ECU, A/F Feedback Function does not work properly in O2 Feedback area of stock ECU. Set 0 in O2 Feedback area (Low load, Low rpm) of stock ECU to stop A/F Feed back. A/F A/F A/F A/F

・・・・・・・Select if A/F Feedback Function will be used or not. Map ・・・・・Select a map that A/F Feedback works for. Throttle・・・Set percentage of minimum throttle angle that A/F Feedback works. Cycle Time ・ Set Cycle Time that compensation value is changed by A/F Feedback Function. When there is a big difference between current A/F ratio and target A/F, if shorter time is set here, A/F Feedback will be finished in short time. However if too short time is set, feedback values will not be stable. Minimum value should be at least "200 [msec]". A/F Feedback Start Time・・Set a waiting time to start A/F Feedback after warm up of A/F Meter. Input longer time than warm up time of A/F meter. A/F Feedback Water Temp. ・Input water temperature that A/F Feedback starts. A/F Feedback Volume・・・・Set volume to change trim value of A/F Feedback Function every feedback cycle. When there is a big difference between current A/F ratio and target A/F, if larger value is set here, A/F Feedback will be finished in short time. However if the value is too big, feedback values will not be stable. Maximum value should be less than "5".

A/T
Parameters for A/T Shift Compensation Function (Shift Up Ignition Trim, Shift Down Ignition Trim). It is the compensation to prevent knocking during shift change of Automatic Transmission of turbocharged cars. Shift Up or Down are detected when engine rpm changes. Then Ignition Timing will be retarded. Engine rpm difference is always checked every 100[msec] and if the difference is more than the setting value and throttle opening angle is more than the setting value, ignition compensation starts. After Ignition Trim started, Ignition Trim value is decayed by Compensation Decay parameter and Ignition Trim will be 0[°CA] eventually. Figure 3

Shift Up Ignition Trim・・・・・・・・・・Select if Shift Up Ignition Trim is used. Shift Up Ignition Compensation・・・・・・To prevent knocking at Shift Up, (minus) value will retard timing. Shift Up Ignition Compensation Decay ・・ Set Decay speed (to return to 0[°CA] trim) after Shift Up Ignition Compensation. The setting value is decreased from trim value every ignition until trim value becomes 0[°CA]. Shift Up Ignition Compensation Throttle・ Set percentage of minimum throttle opening angle for A/T Shift Up Ignition Compensation. It prevents compensation during shift up at low load. Shift Up Ignition Compensation R.P.M.・・ If engine rpm is lower than the value, Shift Up Ignition Compensation does not work. It prevents compensation during shift up at low rpm. Shift Up R.P.M. Movement ・・・Set R.P.M. difference per 100[msec] to detect that automatic transmission has changed gear. For example, whe n shift is changed from 3rd to 4th and rpm changes from 6200[rpm] to 5800[rpm] in 100[msec], set 58006200= 400(rpm d ifference) in order to compensate. (Check Log data of PowerWriter for actual rpm difference.) Be careful that if very small value is input, not only Shift Up but normal rpm change may be detected for compensation. * Parameters for Shift Down Ignition Trim are the same as Shift Up Ignition Trim. Input +(plus (rpm increasing value)) value for Shift Down R.P.M. Movement.

Air Flow Conversion・・・・・・・・・・・ Check if Air Flow Conversion Function will be used. Air Flow Conversion Map Y Axis・・・・・・Select Y Axis of Air Flow Conversion Map. Usually, select Air Flow.
Air Flow Conversion intake layout or any other Air Flow Conversion 24), EIDS map and FCD map.
Function is to adjust Air Flow Meter Output when there is a difference caused by change of reasons. Function calculates Air Flow value with Air Flow Conversion Map(Load Axis 16× RPM Axis Then, outputs the value to Air Flow output port.

In case of Figure 1, when Air Flow Input Voltage (Y Axis) is 3500[mV] and engine rpm is 2000[rpm], converted value will be the cross point of the map 3150[mV]. The converted value will be calculated with EIDS Function and FCD Function. Then, it will be output as Air Flow Output value.
EIDS・・・・・・・・・・・・・・Check if EIDS Function will be used. EIDS Throttle OFF Condition ・・Set percentage of throttle opening angle that EIDS Function activates. EIDS Water Temp. Condition・・・EIDS Function does not work under the value. EIDS Air Flow Fixed Time・・・・Set the period that EIDS Function works. When Intake Pipe is changed or Blow Off Valve is installed, sometimes, output from Air Flow meter may not accu rate. In this case, when throttle is closed, Fuel setting may be wrong and engine may stall. With EIDS Function, Air Flow output during throttle off is fixed at value in EIDS map to prevent engine stall. If percentage of throttle opening angle is less than EIDS Throttle OFF Condition and it also meets other conditions, EIDS Fuction will be activated for EIDS Air Flow Fixed Time. (See Figure 2 EIDS Function) Even if it is within EIDS Air Flow Fixed Time, if engine rpm is out of range of EIDS rpm axis and if water temperature is lower than EIDS Water Temp. Condition, Air Flow Output will not be fixed. Make sure to set Throttle parameter correctly to use this function.

NVCS Function ・・・・・・・・ Select to use NVCS Control Function. In order to use it, modify harness to connect NVCS Solenoid to FCON iS Pin63 or 64. NVCS OFF→ON RPM・・・・・・・ Set R.P.M. that NVCS solenoid will be ON. Maximum value is 500rpm lower than thee value set in "NVCS ON→OFF R.P.M." NVCS ON→OFF RPM・・・・・・・ Set R.P.M. that NVCS solenoid will be OFF. Minimum value is 500rpm higher than the value set in "NVCS OFF→ON R.P.M." NVCS Water Temp. Condition ・・When water temperature is below the value, NVCS does not work.
Variable Valve Timing Control Solenoid (NVCS Solenoid) of Nissan NVCS (Nissan Valve timing Control System) can be controlled by FCON iS. NVCS Function and AIC Output cannot be used simultaneously as the output port is the same. Refer to FCON iS Hardware Manual about harness modification to connect NVCS Solenoid. FCON iS can control NVCS Solenoid by engine rpm and water temperature conditions. When NVCS Solenoid is turned ON, position of intake camshaft will be advance and overlap time will be longer. Usually, set short overlap time for low rpm (NVCS Solenoid is OFF) to prevent exhaust gas leaking and turn ON NVCS Solenoid for middle rpm range to advance timing of intake valve closing for better compression efficiency. At high rpm, turn OFF NVCS Solenoid to retard timing of intake valve closing for proper valve timing at high rpm. NVCS Control

FCON iS Extension Functions Diagnosis Data Input Function Signals from OBD2 Diagnosis Connector enables to show Fuel Trim Value, ClosedLoop value and Ignition Timing of stock ECU on Data Monitor of PowerWriter or VIDEO Output. How to use In order to use this function, connect FCON iS to OBD2 Diagnosis Connector with FCON iS Communication Cable (42999AK009). Refer to Manual of FCON iS Communication Cable for connection. Refer to chart on product manual of FCON iS Communication Cable to set OBD2 Type in BASIC Tab or Parameter. CloseLoop Cancellation Trim Function It compensates so that Fuel Trim Value of stock ECU will be 0. With this function, Fuel Setting for vehicles that do Estimation Feedback Control for high load area, can be possible. In order to use this function, FCON iS needs to be connected to OBD2 Diagnosis Connector to input stock ECU data. About Fuel Trim CloseLoop Value of stock ECU Fuel management condition of stock ECU is Feedback Control with O2 sensor or A/F sensor (ClosedLoop) and other conditions (OpenLoop). Under ClosedLoop condition, actual Air / Fuel ratio is detected as O2 sensor or A/F sensor input and Injector Signal is controlled with Fuel Trim and Fuel CloseLoop Trim to be Target Air / Fuel ratio (Ideal Air / Fuel Ratio) that is programmed in ECU. If Fuel Trim Volume is big, Fuel CloseLoop Trim map is renewed so that A/F Ratio can be Target value quickly. Ordinary stock ECU used Fuel Trim value and Fuel CloseLoop Trim value only in ClosedLoop area and they were not used for Fuel control in OpenLoop area. There are some latest ECUs that refer to Fuel CloseLoop Trim value in low load area and use it for fuel control in OpenLoop area. When Intake or exhaust parts of such cars are changed, Fuel CloseLoop Trim value is changed to large value at low load and it affects fuel setting at high load area. FCON iS renews CloseLoop Cancellation Map so that Fuel CloseLoop Trim value in stock ECU will be 0% while stock ECU is in CloseLoop control. Engine RPM With above function, Fuel CloseLoop value in stock ECU will be around 0% and that enables to stabilize CloseLoop Trim value in high Low load area load area too. FCON iS detects Feedback condition of stock ECU from Diagnosis data or parameters. If it is in CloseLoop control, CloseLoop Cancellation map will compensates Fuel setting so that Fuel Trim CloseLoop value will be 0% and CloseLoop Cancellation Map will be renewed. Renewal Condition of CloseLoop Cancellation map can be set in FUEL2 Parameter. Maximum value of CloseLoop Cancellation Map Renewal Value is +-25%. For more trim value, use Trim A or B map.

About "Control Condition" of Data Monitor CL・・・・・・・CloseLoop Function is working. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is effective. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is renewed. OL_G・・・・・CloseLoop Function is not working. Or it does not meet condition of CloseLoop Cancellation Trim map. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is effective. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is not renewed. OL_NONG・・It is in OpenLoop Condition. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is not effective. Trim values in CloseLoop Cancellation map is not renewed.
How to use Set CloseLoop Condition and Map Renewal Cycle. Refer to document about FUEL2 Tab for the parameter setting. Connection with OSC Function With OSC, FCON iS can increase fuel in CloseLoop area of stock ECU. Fuel increasing in CloseLoop is controlled by OSC. Fuel increasing in OpenLoop area is controlled by FCON iS. When fuel is increased by OSC, CloseLoop Fuel Trim Value of stock ECU will be increased. Select "ON" for parameter of CloseLoop Cancellation Map in order to stabilize to 0 for CloseLoop Fuel Trim Value of stock ECU. How to use Refer to FCON iS Hardware Manual and connect OSC. Set Option Map parameter in OTHERS tab of Parameter. "A/F Adaptor Trim A"・・・Trim value of Fuel Trim A map is sent to OSC. "A/F Adaptor Trim B"・・・Trim value of Fuel Trim B map is sent to OSC.
