8.5.2.11 ETOPS Entry Point (EEP) The ETOPS entry point is the point located on the aircraft’s outbound route at one -hour flying time at the selected one engine out diversion speed schedule (in still air and ISA conditions) from the last ADEQUATE airport prior to entering the ETOPS segment. It marks the beginning of the ETOPS segment. 8.5.2.12 ETOPS Segment The ETOPS segment (ETOPS area of operations) starts at the EEP and finishes at the exit point (EXP) when the flight path is back and remains within the 60 minutes area from an ADEQUATE airport. An ETOPS route can contain several successive ETOPS segments well separated from each other. 8.5.2.13 Equal Time Point (ETP) An equal time point is a point on the aircraft route, which is located at the same flying time from two suitable diversion airports. The ETP position can be determined using a computerized flight plan, or graphically on a navigation or plotting chart. 8.5.2.14 Critical Point (CP) The ETOPS critical point is the point on the aircraft route, which is most critical with regard to ETOPS Fuel requirements, if a diversion has to be initiated from that point. CP has to be carefully determined by computation and the CRITICAL FUEL SCENARIO must be applied to determine ETOPS critical diversion fuel.
8.5.2.15 ETOPS Exit Point The ETOPS Exit Point (EXP) is the point located on the aircraft’s route, where the aircraft has been flying in an ETOPS segment, it enters an area of one hour flying time, at the selected one engine out diversion speed schedule (in still air and ISA condition), to an Adequate airport. It marks the end of that particular ETOPS segment. 8.5.2.16 ETOPS Critical Fuel Scenario Unlike the area of operation, which is determined in still air and ISA conditions, the fuel planning must consider the expected meteorological conditions along the route (forecast wind component and temperature. This fuel planning is based on a failure case occurring at CP and requiring a diversion. The point of occurrence is so-called “critical” because in terms of fuel planning a diversion at this point is the least favorable. Engine failure Total pressurization failure Simultaneous total pressurization and engine failure
