Introduction EnglishforWaiters is written for the students of Tourism College who are training to become Waiters of hotels. The textbook serves two purposes: a. upgrades general knowledge of English of future waiters; b. develops professional language skills by means of close-to-life, authentic texts and dialogues. The textbook consists of three parts. Number of lessons per part vary from 9 to 12. Each text/dialogue is followed by a number of practical tasks and exercises. Overall number of lessons is 33. Level of language used in the textbook is from intermediate to post-intermediate.
EnglishforWaiters was piloted in Tbilisi Tourism College in January - June 2008. We welcome any kind of recommendations or suggestions which might arise during the teaching process.

Thank you for asking us if the meal was rst class. Unfortunately, I can’t say yes.
Head waiter: I’m sorry to hear that sir. Could you tell me what was wrong? Guest:
Nothing really serious but several small matters were incorrect and I did not expect them in this restaurant.
Head waiter: Could you give me examples, please? Guest:
First of all, the wine. It was a good quality bottle of red. It should arrive at the table unopened for inspection. It arrived already opened and the waiter simply left it on the table without pouring it or asking for comments on its taste. Fortunately, the temperature and taste were good.
Head waiter: I really am sorry, sir. That was wrong. The problem is that the waiter is a new member of staff. Guest:
The side dish of vegetables arrived before the main meat course and was then not hot enough.
Head waiter: Again, sir, I can only apologize. Do you stay with us often, sir? Guest:
Regularly within your hotel chain but this is my rst visit to this hotel.
Head waiter: When are you leaving sir? Guest:
Tomorrow morning.
Head waiter: Then would you please accept dinner tonight free of charge to show that we can perform properly. Guest:
Thank you very much.

Nearly every home has a coffee maker, but coffee is best (and often) drunk in a bar. And no one on earth makes better coffee than a bartender bartender.. Bartenders make coffee in large, espresso-type machines. They use high quality, medium-roasted beans rather than those shiny, jet-black ones favored by some places. Waiters give a copy of the restaurant’s menu to each customer and sometimes explain how the different meals on the menu are prepared. They write down customers’ orders so that the cooks can prepare each dish exactly as requested.
When the food is ready, waiters carry it from the kitchen to the tables. Good waiters remember what each person has ordered and can place the correct dish in front of the person who ordered it. This kind of service assures good tips and brings customers back to the restaurant. Waiters give constant attention to the guests. They rell coffee cups and water glasses and ask if guests want to order anything else. They also record the food and drink prices on the guests’ checks.

This medium red, naturally semi-sweet wine is best served chilled with soft cheeses, desserts and spicy food, its exotic cherry character is unique. Packaged in the famous 750 ml bluebottle, Saperavi is a grape variety used to make Georgian wines. Two examples are Kindzmarauli (two years old) and Mukuzani (three-year-old and vintage). It originated from the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia and now is spread throughout its entire territory (Kakheti, Saingilo, Kartli, Shavshet-Klardjeti, Imereti,Guria, Racha and Lechkhumi). One year old wine made from this grape is branded as Saperavi. Saperavi has the potential to produce high alcohol levels and is used extensively for blending with other varieties. It is the most important grape variety used to make Georgian red wines. Four things which are important to characterise wines are aging, ging, nose, palate and colour. Aging shows how old wine is. BReaKfasT
Rad th foowng txt and try to undrstand th undrnd words form th contxt. I think it’s a shame that most breakfasts in this day and age are eaten on the run. Even when we take the time to make a more complicated breakfast, our family is keen to start the day and just don’t want to sit around the table talking. Serve breakfast foods for dinner and you get the best of both worlds; talking and relaxing at the end of the day, and delicious, comforting, very simple foods. Scrambled Eggs is one of my favorite recipes. It’s simple and comforting, and lets you prepare eggs for a family without having to stand over the stove while everybody else eats. The side dishes are great complements to this simple main dish. And best of all, everything except the eggs and the sausage and bacon can be made ahead of time. Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake is a great dessert (plus, you get to eat leftovers on the run tomorrow morning!) that has a brown sugar trickle running through a meltingly tender cake. Make it ahead of time so it can mellow. And enjoy this wonderful meal as leisurely as possible with your family.
