EMISAL
INTRODUCTION The Egyptian Company for Salts and Minerals (EMISAL) is an Egyptian joint stock company subject to the provisions of the Law of Investment of Arab and Foreign Capital and Free Zones No. 43 of 1974 and amended by Law No. 230 of 1989, established in 1984 with a capital of LE 76.25 million for the purpose of extracting economic salts from Qaroun Lake. Production of Sodium Sulphate, Sodium Sulphide and Magnesium Sulphate Salt as well as the possibility of producing other salts such as boron, bromine and potassium salts in order to preserve Qaroun Lake from the rise of continuous salts and protect marine life from environmental .protection and preservation The production of salts from Qaroun Lake depends on the exploitation of solar energy through natural evaporation, which leads to the concentration of salinity of pond water to the
appropriate concentration of salt extraction, which is 360 g / liter. It contains four main basins with a total area of 1750 Acre, Refer to .the company's factories Sodium Sulphate Factory was established in the maximum area allocated to the company and consists of the factory's main factory unit, the packing unit and the complete product store. It occupies a 1500 m2 area of four levels. One of the German companies established the factory and monitored the production line in the .initial period of operation Food salt is not only a food item, but an important industry material. It is considered the main raw material in the caustic soda industry for the manufacture of soap, artificial silk, oil refining, spinning, weaving and so on. It is the main source of chlorine for water purification, some petrochemical products, bleaching and paper making. It is used for melting snow in Europe and America, in boilers, in the feed industry, and in addition to its important The Company Ponds are consist of four ponds as shown in Figure 1
POND 1: Pond 1 Area of ( 2.32 km2 ) ,The production of salts from Qaroun Lake depends on the exploitation of solar energy through natural evaporation, which leads to the concentration of salinity of pond water to the appropriate concentration 70 g / liter , then leave to pond 2
POND 2: Pond 2 Area of ( 1.1 km2 ) , By exploitation of solar energy through natural evaporation, which leads to the concentration of salinity of pond water to the appropriate concentration 140 g / liter , then leave to pond 3.
POND 3: Pond 3 Area of ( 1.4 km2 ) , By exploitation of solar energy through natural evaporation, which leads to the concentration of salinity of pond water to the appropriate concentration 250 g / liter , then leave to pond 4.
POND 4: Pond 4 Area of ( 0.63 km2 ) , By exploitation of solar energy through natural evaporation, which leads to the concentration of salinity of pond water to the appropriate concentration 350 g / liter , then leave to Storage ponds (NACL Ponds).

SALT EXTRACTION * Water from the Lake is pumped into concentration ponds to be concentrated by solar energy until it reaches the last pond with a salinity as much as 10 times From original salinity of the Lake * The concentrated brine from the 4th pond is pumped into the sodium sulphate plant where it is cooled to crystatize hydrous sodium sulphate, Na2SO4 , H2o (Glauber Salt) which is then dehydrated or anhydrous sodium sulphate, then packed. * The residual mother liquor, after the recovery of sodium sulphate, is discharged into a set of auxiliary evaporation ponds where sodium chloride (NaCl) is crystatize . It is then harvested, and taken into washing and purification plant, then packed * The residual bittern, enriched in magnesium salts, is then discharged into a final set of ponds where it is stored as the raw material for
extracting magnesium sulphate (MgSO4.7H2O) and ultra pure sodium chloride (NaCl) salt as secondry product .
Production of Anhydrous Sodium Sulphate
1- Uses Of Sodium Sulphate (Na2SO4) The demand for sodium sulphate is increasing in both the local and international markets. It has a wide range of uses , in detergents and other industrial purposes such as glass, textile dyeing , paper, medical industries, animal feed and some compound fertilizers. 2- Specifications of EMISAL – Sodium Sulphate Product Item
