ticking with the ‘I am not going to purchase any new materials’ theme this year I have been sorting through all my boxes and cases filled with buttons and beads that I had forgotten about. For some reason I am drawn to any shade of green. Often there are several different green cotton reels lying around, with a green button or piece of green material and I have a grand collection of green bulldog clips that hold everything together from my receipts to planned projects on my desk. What better use for all these these green bits and pieces, than than to create heart brooches for the the ‘Show the the Love’ Climate Coalition Campaign. Campaign. You can be sure sure that people people will ask why you are wearing wearing a green green heart instead instead of standard standard red one, one, and you you can tell them of the very worthy cause that you are supporting supporting!! Now I wonder how how many green beads I have, or should I buy new ones?

LIZ MOAD’S QUILLING MASTERCLASS
Lettering Lesson EMBED AN OUTLINED MESSAGE IN A QUILLED FLORAL MASTERPIECE
Quilled lettering is very much on-trend at the moment, moment, so I wanted to share a take ta ke that's a little different. Rather than filling in the lettering, they're outlined in white and the background is completed with a floral design using traditional techniques of quilling, coiling and pinching. I printed my words in pt Times New Roman, or a sans serif font such as Helvetica would be le less ss tric tricky ky.. It can be a time time-co -consu nsuming ming project, but the dense mass of quilled flowers is striking.

Print a short greeting onto printer
Cards & Paper
Craf Cr afss Ti Use the same white card as for the background to cut 3mm strips, then use them to outline the letters so they match perfectly
Make It Personal Add quilled quilled flowers flowers and coils coils around around a friend's name and frame it to create a unique and thoughtful gift. To make this, follow the same techniques as for the greeting card, creating a few flowers using only three teardrop petals for variation and adding some dark pink leaves made from cm strips to help fill the space. We used a cm x cm piece of white card for this five-letter name.
Hanging Flowers For a door hanger, draw the outline
cut it from white card. Outline 'Love' and fill the background with flowers, leaves and coils as before. Don't add any quilled shapes to the top of the hanger, as they will not stand much handling. Add a green ribbon to the top and tie in a bow instead. CB

DIY stencils made easy MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DIES TO CREATE SOMETHING UNIQUE FOR YOUR SWEETHEART
There is an extensive range of stencils on the market at the moment, but for times when you have something really specific in mind, the quickest and easiest way is to make your own. Heart outlines are easy to come by, but I already had nesting dies in the perfect shape, which made it really easy to match the background and ombré heart motif to create a romantic card. The beauty of this is that you can make any stencil you want from scraps of basic card and simple dies, and when it wears out you can replace it at almost no cost, make the most our of your dies and get creative!
In The Know... Make sure you leave a large enough area around your die-cut shape to prevent the brush going over the edge and ruining your work. k
k Nesting dies work really well for stencils,
but you can experiment with more intricate shapes and hand-drawn shapes to see what works for you. k Get creative with your medium – try paint,
chalk and dyes, and use sponges, blending pads and spritzing bottles for different effects. k Blend different colours and hues of ink for
shaded or ombré effects
“Create a long-lasting, wipe-clean stencil by purchasing some polyester film, such as mylar. Choose a thickness and size to suit your needs, then simply die-cut your chosen shape and use the same as a card stencil” Colette Smith, Designer

Repeat with the smaller stencil, using medium then dark pink ink to fill in gaps until the entire surface is covered. Matt the stencilled panel onto a tent-fold blank the same size.
