CASE 3-A: ESTABLISHING PLANS.
3-14: List and describe the planning elements that Jill needs to consider in preparing for this new line of work.
=> The planning elements that Jill needs to consider co nsider are a) Preparing the content within 24 hours. b) Training workers for the night shift so that they are able to operate the machines and know the PC programs c) Since labor cost is the major component of the mailing place expenses the company should buy more machines and train the current employees on the machine rather than hiring ten temporary employees.
3-15: Describe two options for handling the staffing levels for this new line of work. What issues and complications are likely to surface with the new amount of work for Jill’s department?
=> 1) New staff will have to be hired even if there is an option of using the current employees in order to handle the volumes of work the firm will be facing after three months of starting the new firm.
2) Easier tasks should be assigned to the newly hired hired staffs, and the current experienced staff staff should be assigned to the new line of work. The other way to handle the volume of work can be the experienced and the newly hired staffs working side by side.
=> Issues and complications that are likely to surface are:
a) Operating new machines and PC program could be stressful in the beginning.
b) Training Training and skill level of the newly hired staffs are likely to surface surface as issue.
c) Maintaining the deadline for production along with the quality of service could be an issue in the beginning.
3-16: How would you suggest using schedules and budgets in the planning process for the mailing place? => Planning involves defining the goals of an organization. So the planning should involve strategies for achieving the goals. The employee schedule is a key factor in budgeting. Schedules will allow the firm to plan the working hours of the employee. This will also help in tracking the productivity of the firm. And of course budgets must also be included in the planning process to keep track of the flow of money.
Case 3-B When Proper procedure is not followed.
1. Outline the specific steps Cliff should have taken with Sonja prior to their meeting with Cindy to ensure the meeting went smoothly with no surprises.
=> Cliff should have explained to Sonja on what was going on with Cindy in detailed manner in order to avoid any confusion. I also think Cliff should have told the fact that Cindy was married to the member of the executive exe cutive committee and her position was important regardless.
2. As supervisor, supervisor, what should should Cliff have done when it became apparent Sonja was overstepping her authority during the meeting with Cindy? => According to me as a supervisor Cliff should have stopped Sonja when he sensed that Sonja was overstepping her authority. Cliff should have asked for an explanation from Sonja as well as Cindy for their such behavior.Cliff should have sat with both of them and try to sort things out between them.
3. What steps do you believe Heather Hea ther should take with Sonja? With Cliff? With With Cindy? => I believe Heather should hear each persons story first on what led to such behavior of Sonja. Then Heather should gather all those individuals together to sort things out between them.
