Cambridge ESOL – KET Writing

1. Write a note to your friend asking him to lend his bicycle for 4 days. Write the reason for borrowing the bicycle and tell him when you can return it.

Dear Sam I am going to have a bicycle touring to the countryside with my friends. Could you lend me your bicycle for four days? I will return it next Monday.

2. Invite your friend to tea. Ask him to bring a new friend with him. You need a camera to photograph the event. Mention when the party is.

Dear Rudy I am going to have a tea party next Monday at 4 p.m. Could you come to the party? Can you bring a new friend with you? Please don’t forget to bring your camera. See you soon. Mike.

2 3. You are visiting England. Tell your friend to meet you at the airport. You need know   

Weather condition Clothes that you are going to wear. Suggest an event to enjoy together.

Ann I am coming to England next Monday. Could you meet me at the airport at 6 p.m. What is the weather like in England these days? What sort of clothes should I bring with me? Shall we do some shopping together in the evening? See you soon. Mary

4. You couldn’t attend your friend’s birthday party. Write a note to your friend. In your note, mention the following things.    

Say sorry to your friend and give the reason for your absence. How many people visited at the party? What he did at the party Suggest a date to meet your friend.

3 Dear Sam I am so regret that I couldn’t come to your birthday party as I was suffering from fever and headache. How many people joined the party? What did you do at the party? Shall we meet next Monday in the library at 4 pm? See you soon

4. You are going on a fishing trip to the nearby mountain site. Invite your friend to join the trip. Tell him when you are going. Ask him to buy something to eat on the way. Ask him to bring his new fishing line with him.

Sam Next Saturday at 10 am, I am going on a fishing trip with my classmates. Would you like to join us? Could you bring something to eat on the way? Do not forget to bring your new fishing line with you. Love from Rick

5. You were absent from school for a week. Write an excuse letter to your class teacher. Include the following in the note.  

Give the reason for your absence. Ask him to provide the notes that you missed.

5. Your friend has asked you to go swimming tomorrow evening. You can’t go. Write a note to your friend.    

Say: Sorry Why you can’t go When you can meet your friend on another day.

Dear Salem I am so sorry that I can’t go swimming with you tomorrow. I have had a bad flu and cough for a week. Shall we meet at the play station next Monday at 4? Take care. John

5 6. Read this postcard from your friend, Alex.

I am going to visit your county next month. Can I see you? Please tell me about the weather there. What clothes should I bring? Alex

Write a postcard to Alex. Answer Alex’s questions. Write 20-25 words. Write your postcard on the answer sheet.

Dear Alex I am pleased that you are visiting my country. Next month I will be on summer vacation so that we can meet and have fun. The summer has just started and it is hot. You’d better bring some cotton clothes. Love from Alex

7. Invite your friend to the cinema. Say:    

When? What film? When the film starts? Where you are going to meet her.

6 Dear Ann Would you like to come to the cinema with me after school today? We can go to see “Harry Potter” at the ABC cinema. The film starts at 6 o’clock. Shall we meet outside the cinema? Love Mary

8. Your friend invites you to go with her to the cinema but I can’t. Write a note and Say:   

Sorry Reason Suggest your best friend to go with her.

Dear Mary I am very sorry but I can’t go to the cinema with you tomorrow evening. My mother has to work, and I am going to cook dinner. Why don’t you bring my best friend, Karen with you? She is great fun and nice. You can tell me about it tomorrow. Love Ann

7 9. You are going to have a party. Write a note to a friend. Ask your friend to come Say when and where the party is. Write 20-25 words.

8 11. Read the note from your friend Richard. Write a postcard to tell him what he wants to know. It’s great that you’re coming to see me in England. Tell me when you are coming, how long you want to stay and what you want to do. Write soon!

14. You cannot be at the railway station when you father arrives there. Your friend is going to meet him for you. Write a note to your friend. Say:
