MODUL DSKP/ KSSR - BAHASA INGGERIS PPD KINTA UTARA
TIPS AND GUIDES 1.
There is no short cut. Refer to all the grammar skills in the Year 4, 5 and 6 KSSR DSKP.
2.
All the skills in the DSKP focus on Parts of Speech which is what grammar is all about.
3.
Other grammatical items should be introduced and taught too, either in context or in isolation depending on the circumstances.
4.
Provide pupils with the list of proverbs, idioms, similes, antonym and synonym of words.
5.
Pupils need to be taught all the punctuation marks.
6.
Use and refer to the Jadual Spesifikasi Indeks (JSI) when setting or selecting questions for assessment.
7.
The testing of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in comprehension questions (16 -20) should have elements to encourage pupils to think and to use the skills of applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating based on information given in the text for them to do inference.

MODUL DSKP/ KSSR - BAHASA INGGERIS PPD KINTA UTARA
Practice 21. Passage 1 : Read the passage and answer the questions that follows.
Despite being called ‘koala bear’ for many years, the koala is actually a marsupial. Bears give birth to well-developed young. Newborn koalas, however, are tiny and are raised in their mothers’ pouches. Koalas are found between south-eastern Australia and Queensland, but only where enough eucalyptus trees are available. A koala eats about half a kilogramme of eucalyptus leaves each day. Eucalyptus leaves are not easy to digest. They are tough and contain oils which can be poisonous. As their food contains little energy, koalas conserve energy by sleeping for most of the day and looking for food in the evening. Koalas live for 10 to 20 years. With huge claws and strong muscles, koalas are able to hold on tightly to trees. They have two thumbs and three fingers on each front paw, which makes their grip more even on each side of a branch. They also have clawless big toes on their hind legs, which allow them to grip with their hind feet as well. Two of their hind toes are joined together to form a handy two-toothed comb, used for grooming fur and removing ticks.

Well, I used to accompany my cousin for his rock climbing practices last mid-term break. So, that makes me interested to take the same class. The first class will be on this coming Friday. In the beginning, I’ll be practising indoors by climbing up and down the wall before I am allowed to climb a natural rock surface outdoors.

Another great emergency happened everywhere. The stepmother told the woodcutter to leave the children in the forest again, even further in the forest this time. With a heavy heart the woodcutter agreed. Hansel and Gretel were still awake and overheard the conversation. Hansel wanted to gather pebbles as he had done before but he found the door was locked. He told Gretel who was crying to not worry because he will find a way. With no pebbles available, Hansel crumbled the piece of bread, which his stepmother gave him and dropped the crumbs onto the ground when they were on their way to the forest the next morning. He did not notice that birds came and ate the crumbs after they had cleared the path. So, when night came, Hansel and Gretel could not find their way home again after being left deep in the woods. They started to worry but they tried searching for their way home until the morning came but they were still unsuccessful. Tired and hungry, they continued their search when they saw a cozy little house. They went closer and saw that the house was built entirely of bread, the roof made of marzipans and the windows were made of clear sugar. Read the text and answer the qu estions that follow. An old man was sitting with his 14-year-old son in the train. As the train started to move the boy was filled with much joy and curiousity. As he looked out of the window, he shouted, “Dad, look at all the lovely trees! Dad, look at that lake!” Wiping the tears in his eyes, the old man smiled. The other passengers were staring at the boy but the old man took no notice of them. Jeremy, a labourer, had been with his son, James for a number of weeks in hospital. Today, he was the happiest man in the world. He could hardly wait to show James to his mother, Emelda, a housewife. James, their only son, could not see since birth. Moreover, poor James was always out of breath whenever he had asthma attacks. As they stepped into their little wooden house by the sea, James ran in. He was familiar with the pieces of furniture around him. Then, his mother cried, “My dear boy!” James could recognize his mother’s voice. “Mum! Mum!” his voice was choked with emotions and then he continued,” I can see Dad.” His mother had prepared lots of delicious dishes that were James’ favourites. At the dinner table, James told his parents that he wanted to continue learning Braille even though he could see now.

Once upon a time, a city mouse wanted to visit his cousin in the country. The country mouse was rough and loud but he loved his cousin very much and welcomed him to the country heartily. A few kernels of corns and a couple of dried berries were all he had to offer, but he offered them all to the city mouse freely. “My poor cousin, you hardly have anything to eat! Even the ants have something better to eat! Please do come to the city and visit me, you will see rich feasts and readily available food for the taking, “ said the city mouse. So the country mouse left for the city’s alley with his cousin. The country mouse could not believe his eyes. He had never seen so much food in one place. There were bread, cheese, fruits and cereals in a warm cozy portion of the alley. The two mice ventured out of the hole and resumed their abundant feast. Before they could get a proper taste in their mouth, another visitor intruded on their dinner, and the two little mice had to scuttle away quickly. "Goodbye," said the country mouse, "You do, indeed, live in a plentiful city, but I am going home where I can enjoy my dinner in p eace! "

Villa Sentosa, a traditional Malay house in Kampung Morten, Melaka, was built in 1920. It was constructed without a single nail by one of the village founders and headman, Haji Hashim Datuk Demang Haji Abdul Ghani. Being part of national heritage, Villa Sentosa features traditional Mala architecture and is a treasure trove of antiques.
The house is mainly made of timber with an inner courtyard and minimal partitions for interior walls. This allows for good ventilation and lighting. Furniture is also kept to the minimum and most of the activities are done on the floor.
Haji Hashim’s descendants, who still live in the house, have turned it into a museum, exhibiting the heirlooms he left. Among them is a 500-year-old Majapahit dagger, 100-year-old Quran, a traditional Malay wedding gown and old costumes, ceramics from the Ming Dynasty and medals which Haji Hashim received for his service to the government. Other valuable souvenirs include a 200-year-old gong, a tea set from England, muskets and numerous family photographs.
