1. Introduction: ASHIDA Substation Automation System communicates with the IEDs with the help of communication servers. Different communication servers are provided for different communication protocols. ASHIDA supports it’s own proprietary protocol called as “ASCADA” now revised to “ADITYAV2”. Relay talk system for SCADA, can be connected to the IEDs manufactured by ASHIDA Electronics Pvt. Ltd., on front (RS-232) or rare (Rs-422) port for communication interface. This system supports following features Online data display Online Status display Control Operation Fault data display Disturbance data downloading Event List Read write relay settings Time synchronization, Etc.

Facilities Provided: Following facilities are provided from the Relay-talk system. Configurations: view and edit configuration, is explained in section 3. Communication Test: This is a communication interface provided for any ASHIDA relay. IED specific Interface: IED specific interface is provide for ease of user. IED List: All IEDs, which are loaded under this relay talk system, are briefly listed with their status. Relay event list: Combined events of all IEDs are listed here. IED scan: Back ground scan of IEDs can be initiated or stopped.

System status bar: System status bar, displays communication status label, user level, date, time, etc. Symbolic representations displayed in status bar are explained below.

3. Configuration: will provide the offline and online configuration.
Communication settings: Which will allow to set various time outs, port selections, port settings, user settings, various mode settings, etc.

Time synchronize Interval (Sec): This is the time at which all the IEDs/RTUs will be synchronized with the Server PC time. Port Refresh Interval (Sec): If the port is not available for connection the background software will retry it to connect after this time interval. Device Refresh Interval (Sec): Once the IED/RTU failed for communication it will be marked as unhealthy for communication and won’t to communicated again, as the time will be wrested for unhealthy device query while scanning. This IED/RTU will be recommunicated after the mentioned time interval. Activate Control Operations: this will enable or disable the control operations. Basically it blocks the control command being send to the IED/RTUs. Debug Mode: Will display some of the debugging messages.

Commtest specific settings: This will specify the port settings used for actual communication.

Default serial port settings: This will specify the serial port, along with which splitter path (if applicable, default 1) to be used, when the relay talk system starts. Log data: While debugging, sometimes transmit, receive data need to be logged for analysis. Recommended to set is off.

Common settings: These are higher level settings such as CT,PT Primary/Secondary.

kVMode: It will change the display mode of parameters as explained in the Note. CT PT Settings: CT and PT primary and secondary values are set here, depending on these values, parameter values are scaled.

Serial Port Settings: These are communication interface related settings. There are 10 predefined ports, which can configure. These ports can be enabled or disabled depending on their usage. These predefined ports are then used for interfacing with IEDs/RTUs. Depending on hardware specifications, Serial Port can be configured for any one of the following:
Connection on Com Port: If the communication interface is through RS-232 or RS-485 then we need to set these settings.

Port Specific settings: Com Port No.: Which depends on the computer specifications. Specify the port no. on which communication cable is going to be connected. Baud Rate: supported baud rates are as follows: 256000, 128000, 57600, 56000, 38400, 28800, 19200, 14400, 9600, 4800, 2400, 1200, 600. Handshake: No handshaking, XON/XOFF, RTS/CTS, RTS/CTS & XON/XOFF. Parity: Even, Mark, None, Odd, Space Data Bits: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Stop Bits: 1, 1.5, 2 In Buffer Size: This will mention the maximum input buffer size in bytes. Out Buffer Size: This will mention the maximum output buffer size in bytes.
General Settings: Echo Back: When the port will return echo for transmitted command this option need to be set. Which will match the echo characters and then validate the response. Include per character delay: this is the delay introduced between character transmission. Round Trip delay: This is the maximum wait period for first character to receive from secondary device after command is sent. Per char. delay: This is the delay between receiving characters.
Modem Settings: Use Modem: Set this if communication is through Modem. Dial String: Mention the dial Text (telephone no. etc.) which will dial the modem and enable CD. Init. String: Initializing string for modem initialization. Connect String: Mention the telephone no. etc. if connection is through telephone lines. Connect Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for connection to establish. Disconnect Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for disconnection. Modem Time-out: This is the maximum wait period for modem to output the response.
RTS (Request To Send) Settings: This will be set if modem connected to the serial port requires RTS signal. RTS Status: RTS can be set for any one of the following options. Always OFF Always ON ON while Transmitting RTS On delay: If RTS need to be enabled then this will provide the mentioned delay. RTS Hold delay: RTS will be hold ON till this mentioned time.

Connection on LAN: If the communication interface is through Ethernet LAN then we need to set these settings.

Port Specific settings: Remote IP Address: Mention the IP Address of Secondary devices (Sometimes may be LAN to RS232 converter). Remote Port: Mention Port number of the Secondary device. Local IP Address: This can be automatically retrieved using Load default Local IP Address button. Local Port: Mention Port number of the Primary device.
General Settings: Round Trip delay: This the maximum wait period for first character to receive from secondary device after command is sent. Per char. delay: This is the delay between receiving characters. Packet to packet delay: This is the delay between two packets.
Protocol Settings: UDP: User Datagram Protocol for connectionless applications. TCP: Transfer Control Protocol for connection based applications.

General Settings: These are the general port settings and do not depend on the communication port. Splitter Settings: Use Splitter: If multiple protocols are connected on a single port then we need to use Splitter, which will switch between the two communication channels but on the same port. If such hardware is connected then set use splitter. Splitter Settings: There are few splitter hardware specific settings. ID Command response Splitter Path: Splitter can support multiple path depending on Hardware specifications. Protocol Settings: Ports are configured for Different Communication Protocols these are user settable and can be set here. These protocol settings are as per splitter paths. Different Protocols are mentioned below ASCADA IEC 60870-5-103 CMC MODBUS RTU/ASCII Few Protocol specific Time-outs are displayed in figure 2.2 Scan Time: Back ground communication software is refreshed after predefined interval this interval is set here. It s in milliseconds. Num Reconnect Retry: If the port is not available for communication the software will retry to open the port for connections. The retry count is to be mentioned here.

Send Command: User defined command can be transmitted to the IED, corresponding response is displayed in the output box along with communication status ADITYA series relay: Relay talk system provides interfaces for two protocols one is ASCADA and another is ADITYA now revised to ADITYAV2. Switching between this is provided on the screen. Expected Bytes: For ASCADA protocol, need to mention the number of expected bytes from response. Transfer Bytes: Apart from ASCII command, if some characters are to be transmitted after the command, they can be typed here in their decimal values.
Special Function IDString: Is a request to the IED for its identification. Time: will read the RTU time from IED. Synchronize: will synchronize IED’s RTU with the PC time Reset: is a command for IED soft reset.

5. Physical Layer: This will display the raw data transmission and receipt when communication test is loaded. Note: It is not applicable for IED interfaces.

Disturbance Record: Some IEDs record disturbances on fault occurrences these disturbance records can be downloaded using relay talk system. Facilities provided are. DR list refresh. Listing the disturbance records in chronological order Download disturbance record in a text file. DR text file can be analyzed using DR analysis software. DR data can be exported in COMTRADE format using DR analysis utility.

History fault display: Faults latched in the IEDs can be read and displayed. Following information about fault is displayed in history faults. Fault time: Fault times along with millisecond accuracy are displayed. Fault number: alternatively called as Trip counter Duration: this is the fault clearance time.
