Longevity, primordial wisdom, Infinite Array .
མཚན་ཙམ་ ས་ ཐོ པས་ང་བ་ལམ་་འེན།ན། ། tsen tsam töpé changchub lam na dren
At the mere sound of your name, beings are drawn towards awakening.
ས་་འོད་ད་དཔག་ད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chöku öpakmé la chaktsal lo
Dharmakāyaa Amitābha: homage to you! Dharmakāy

King of the five certainties and five buddha families,

You display in our world your command of the ten bhūmis.

Great Compassionate One, you dredge the depths of saṃsāra.

Saṃbhogakāya Avalokiteśvara: Avalokiteśvara: homage to t o you!

ngotsar palden sangye pema kyé
Lotus-Born Buddha, amazing and glorious,

With your stainless vajra-body free from birth and death,
ས་གམ་ལ་བ་ན་་ི ིན་ན་ལས་མཛད། ། dü sum gyalwa kün gyi trinlé dzé
You enact the enlightened activity of the Victors of the three times.

Naturally arisen truth, sovereign of the five buddha bodies,

Through infinite methods you guide beings to great bliss,
གལ་་བསམ་པ་ཡོངས་ ངས་་ོགས་ གས་མཛད་པ། ། duljé sampa yongsu dzok dzepé
Perfectly accomplishing all of their wishes.
ེ་་་མངའ་ོ་་ེ ་་ལ་འད། ། kyeshi mi nga dorjé ku la dü
Vajrakāya, neither arising nor ceasing: to you I bow! 2

Presiding over everything, Protector Amitābha, You assume the five-fold form of the Skull Garland buddhas, buddhas,3

Granting all bounty, all success and happiness.
ཕན་བ་དགས་འན་ནི ་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། pendé ukjin tsal la chaktsal lo
Cakravartin, Supreme Excellence : homage to you! [Chapters 1-2]
གས་ག་དོན་ན་མཛད་འོ་འལ་་་ག ། rik druk dön dzé drodul guru druk
In infinite worlds – Untainted Realm4 and others
མ་འལ་མཚན་བད་་ི ད་ང་སོགས་ གས་། ། namtrul tsen gyé drimé shying sok su
You manifest as the Six Teachers, 5 to tame the six classes.

As the Eight Manifestations, as and Lotus-Birth .6 Manifestations, as Untainted Speech and
མདོ་གས་ོན་ན་པར་ང་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། do ngak tönpar nang la chaktsal lo
Bringing benefit to all, you expound sūtra and tantra: homage to you! [Chapter 3]
ད་པར་གསང་གས་བན་པ་བང་བ་ ར། ི ། khyepar sang ngak tenpa kyangwé chir
You arose as the great Vajradhara, manifest in all five families,

Through union and liberation, with the taming of Rudra,
་ད་ག་པ་ེལ་ལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། lamé tekpa pel la chaktsal lo
You achieved the propagation of the Unsurpassable Yāna: homage to you! [Chapters 4 & 6]
ལ་འ ར་ ོ ས་ན་ོ་ ས་ ེ ལ་ང་ས། ། naljor nüden dorjé yul sung sé
Manifesting as the thousand sons of king Dhṛtarāṣṭra,
སངས་ས་ོང་ང་ར་དབང་བར་ང་བན་ང་། ། sangye tong tsar wangkur lungten ching
You were granted empowerment by the yogi Powerful Vajra, 7 Who foretold your awakening in the form of the thousand buddhas, 8
གང་འལ་ལ་པས་བན་པ་གས་ན་།ི ། gang dul trulpé tenpa nyiden gyi
You appear in myriad ways as required for beings’ taming,
བད་་ི ་ས་ཆར་དབབ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dütsi chö char wab la chaktsal lo
Raining down the nectar of the two-fold Dharma: homage to you! [Chapters 7-8]
ན་་འཆང་བས་དབང་བ་་བོ་ཕབ། །
küntu changwé wang shyi chuwo pab
As Samantadhara,9 you gave the four rivers of empowerment.10
གག་ད་ས་བཟང་ས་ར་གས་ོད་ད་བང་། ། tsukpü ri zang sé gyur ngak chö kyang
As the son of Excellent Crown Jewel11, you upheld the tradition of Mantra.

ིན་ན་ན་ལ་ཁམས་མདོ་གས་བན་པ་ས། ། trinden gyalkham do ngak tenpa yi
For ages, you worked to tame the t he kingdom of Meghavat,
ན་་འལ་བར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། yündu dulwar dzé la chaktsal lo
Teaching with consummate skill both sūtra and tantra: homage to you! [Chapters 9-10]
དམ་ས་ངས་བན་འཕགས་ལ་ང་ངི ་ན་ད། ། damchö khung tsün pakyul ling chen gü
There are nine domains in the noble land of Dharma.12
བ་ོགས་ གས་གསང་གས་འང་གནས་་ན་ལ། ། nubchok sang ngak jungné orgyen yul
To the west lies Uḍḍiyāna , source of the secret Mantrayāna.
རང་ང་་་ཀ་་་ཁང་། །
rangjung heruka yi lhakhang du
There, in the Heruka temple, naturally-arisen, naturally-arisen,
མཁའ་འོ་་ིན་ན་ང་འིགས་ གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། khandrö trinpung trik la chaktsal lo
Clouds of ḍākinīs billow all around you: homage to you! [Chapter 11-12]
ན་ད་འ ར་ ོ ན་དར་མཛད་དོ ་མད་ིན་ན་མཛད། ། chenmé jorden kor dzö chöjin dzé
The blind king, crazed by wealth,13 offered riches and possessions,
མཐའ་ཡས་ལ་པས་གགས་ངས་གམ་ལ་དངས། ། tayé trulpé ziktang sum la gong
And Amitābha sent you forth, his mighty emanation, Directing your attention to three particular situations. 14
་ི ད་མདངས་ན་དྷ་ན་་ཤ་མཚ ར།ོ ། drimé dangden dhana koshé tsor
At length, on Dhanakośa lake, immaculate and shimmering,

You took birth in the heart of a lotus flower: homage to you! [Chapters 13-14]
གཏོང་ལ་རབ་མས་་་་ས། ། tong la rab gom indra bhuti yi
Perfecting generosity, King Indrabhūti
གཞན་དོན་་མཚོ་་ནས་ ར་ ནོ ་ངས། ། shyendön gyatso ché né norbu lang
Set sail across the seas to find a jewel15 to benefit beings.
ལམ་ནས་ན་ངས་གར་ ར་ི དབང་བར་ང་། ། lam né chendrang ser trir wangkur shying
Returning, he met you and invited you to join him.
པ་ལ་ ར་ པོ མཚན་གསོལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། pema gyalpor tsen sol chaktsal lo
A golden throne made ready, you were hailed as Padmarāja, Lotus King: homage to you! [Chapters 15-18]
ད་བན་ིན་ལས་འདོད་་ཆར་ན་ཕབས། ། yishyin trin lé dögü char chen pab
From wish-fulfilling clouds, there rained everything desirable
་ས་མད་ང་བ་གགས་མཁའ་འོ་ས། ། daki chö ching deshek khandro yi
Ḍākinīs honoured you, brimming with devotion
ལ་པ་་དང་ལོངས་ོད་ོགས་པ་ར། ། trulpé ku dang longchö dzokpé kur
Dākinīs of great bliss offered praise at your enthronement
མངའ་གསོལ་ས་པས་བོད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ngasol güpé tö la chaktsal lo
As the Nirmāṇakāya and Saṃbhogakāya king: homage to you! [Chapter 19]

འག་ནེ ་ལ་དང་མན་པར་འག་པ་ ར། ི ། ikten tsul dang tünpar jukpé chir
Aligning yourself with worldly conventions,
འོད་འཆང་མ་ད་བན་མ ར་ོ བས་ནས་ང་། ། ö chang ma nyi tsünmor shyé né kyang
You took as your consort the princess Prabhāvatī16
ར་ག་་བོ་ངས་ན་ེ་བ་། །
khoryuk riwö khong kün dé shyi yi
And made the whole kingdom splendid and abundant
དཔལ་འ ར་ ོ ག་པར་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། paljor lhakpar pel la chaktsal lo
With wealth and glory, riches and enjoyments: homage to you! [Chapter 20]
ོན་པ་ོ་་ེ མས་དཔས་ང་བན་ར། ། tönpa dorjé sempé lungten tar
As foretold by the Buddha Vajrasattva,
ལ་ིད་ང་ ར་ ི བལ་གས་ོད་པ་མཛད། ། gyalsi pang chir tulshyuk chöpa dzé
Your purpose then required you to abandon the kingdom
་ལ་བནེ ་་ཁབ་ནས་མན་པར་ངས། ། dé la ten té khab né ngönpar chung
And engage in the practices of yogic discipline.
དན་པ་གནས་་གགས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། wenpé né su shek la chaktsal lo
You created the cause for expulsion from your homeland And departed in search of solitude: homage to you! [Chapter 22]
་ན་ལ་ི་བཀའ་ོང་ག་ག་། །
nga len yul gyi ka kyong drakpuk tu
In the cave in Pañcāla , 17 Guardian of the Buddha’s Teachings,

ར་དངི ས་་ཚོགས་བབས་པས་ཞལ་གགས་ང་། ། dor ying lhatsok drubpé shyalzik shing
You accomplished the assembly of the Vajradhātu Maṇḍala 18 And you met the deities face to face.
བལ་བ་ཚལ་ོན་བ་དེ ་བེགས་པར་བགས། ། silwé tsal jön dé jé tsekpar shyuk
Then, you travelled to Cool Grove 19 and the Śaṅkarakūṭa Stūpa,20
མཁའ་འོ་མས་ལ་ས་བན་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། khandro nam la chö ten chaktsal lo
And taught the ḍākinīs the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 22]
ག་་ཤོད་ོན་ ར་ོ ོལ་མན་ད་པས། ། ga u shö jön jordrol ngön chepé
At the site of Ga’u Shö21 you practiced union and liberation,
ར་ བ་གཞོན་་ས་ར་རབ་གས་ང་། ། ོshorwa shyönnu shyé jar rabdrak shing Gaining renown as Showa Shönu, The Youthful Who Escaped.
གསལ་ན་ལ་་ང་ོང་ིད་བ་ལས། ། salden yul du drangsong si drub lé
Then, in Varanasi22 with the sage Arjuna,
ས་ི ལ་རབ་འམས་གསན་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tsi tsul rabjam sen la chaktsal lo
You mastered mathematics and astrology: homage to you! [Chapters 22-23]
པ་ཅན་་འཚོ་ེད་གཞོན་་ར། ། pema chen du tso jé shyönnü bur
In Padmāvatī23 with the son of Jīvakumāra,
གསོ་བ་ག་པ་་མཚོ་མཐའ་བཅད་ནས། ། sowa rigpa gyatsö ta ché né
You perfected the far-reaching art of medicine,

་ག་ལ་ལ་ན་ི་བས་གན་ལས། ། raga la yul kün gyi shenyen lé
And in Rāgala,24 with Sarvamitra,
་དང་ག་གས་བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dra dang yik rik shyé la chaktsal lo
You undertook the study of writing and grammar: homage to you! [Chapters 24-25]
གཞན་ཡང་་་ཀ་ལ་སོགས་ལས། ། shyenyang bisho karma lasok lé
From Viśvakarma and other masters,
བཟོ་་ག་པ་ཛ་་ི ཡན་ཆད་ན། ། zo yi rigpa dza tsi yenché kün
You learned the skills of craftsmanship and the art of alchemy.
བབ་པ་ལ་བན་མཁས་པ་མཐར་སོན་པས། ། labpé tsul ten khepé tarsönpé
You brought all to completion, feigning study and training,
ས་་ཐམས་ཅད་གགས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
sheja tamché zik la chaktsal lo
And became a master in every field of knowledge: homage to you! [Chapter 26]
ད་པར་ོབ་དཔོན་་བྷ་ཧ་ི་ལས། ། khyepar lobpön prabha hati lé
You received, from the master Prabhahasti,
ལ་འ ར་ ོ ད་ེ་ན་གསན་དས་བ་བ ས། ེ ། naljor gyüdé kün sen ngödrub nyé
All the yoga-tantras, which you practiced and accomplished.
ན་དགའ་བོ་ལས་བན་ལ་རབ་ང་ང་། ། küngawo lé ten la rabjung shying
Ānanda gave you teachings and bestowed your ordination.

shakya sengé tsen sol chaktsal lo
Hence your name Śākya Senge, Lion of the Śākyas : homage to you! [Chapter 26]

You trained in the teachings of the Three Turnings,

The excellent edicts of the Conqueror, And also in the Secret Mantra’s three outer sections
ལ་ས་ོད་མག་་མཚོ་ཕ་རོལ་སོན། ། gyalsé chö chok gyatsö parol sön
Perfecting, ocean-like, the conduct of the Victors.
ང་མས་་་་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། changsem su mi tra la chaktsal lo
Bodhisattva Sumitra: homage to you! [Chapter 27]
མང་ ས་ ཐོ མག་ར་བན་གས་མདོ་ ས་ ི ང་། ། mang tö chok der ten nyi do dri shing
At sacred Śrāvastī, sought clarification Regarding the two doctrines of the sūtras. 25

You engaged, through yogic conduct, in the taming of beings.27
་མ་འོད་ར་གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། nyima özer drak la chaktsal lo
Renowned Nyima Özer, Rays of the Sun: homage to you! [Chapters 27-29]

འོག་ན་ན་ ར་ པོ ོན་པ་ན་བཟང་ལས། ། womin chenpor tönpa kunzang lé
In the Akanisṭha heaven, the teacher Samantabhadra
ོགས་པ་ན་པོ་མས་ེ་རབ་འམས་གསན། ། dzogpachenpo semdé rabjam sen
Taught you the Mind Category of the Great Perfection.
་ད་ོ་་ེ འཆང་་མཚན་གསོལ་ནས། ། lamé dorjé chang du tsen sol né
Thus you received the name Unsurpassed Vajra Holder
ས་་་ས་བ ས་ ེ ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chökü yeshe nyé la chaktsal lo
And realized the primordial wisdom of the Dharmakāya: homage to you! [Chapter 30]
ཁ་་ལ་ོན་བ་ན་བལ་་བགས། ། khaché yul jön dechen dal du shyuk
In Kashmir, in the charnel ground All-pervading Bliss,
ོ ། མཁའ་འོ་ཚོགས་ལ་ས་ི་འར་ལོ་བ ར། khandrö tsok la chö kyi khorlo kor
For the hosts of ḍākinīs there, you turned the Wheel of Dharma.
ང་མས་ོད་པས་གཞན་ཕན་ཡོངས་་ེལ། ། changsem chöpé shyenpen yongsu pel
Through compassion in action, you assured the welfare of others.
ོ་ན་མག་ེད་གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། loden chok sé drak la chaktsal lo
Renowned Loden Choksé, Wise Seeker of the Sublime : homage to you! [Chapter 30]
་་ེ མས་དཔར་མ་་ཡོ་ག་། ། dorjé sempar mahayoga yi
From Vajrasattva you received the Mahāyoga Tantras
ཏ་ན་གསན་ལོངས་་ལ་ན་ོགས། ། tantra kün sen longkü tsal chen dzok
And perfected the great resplendence of the Sambhogakāya. 11

From there you continued your journey to Nepal, Arriving at the charnel ground Spontaneous Mound .
ང་་་ོགས་གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། sengé dra drok drak la chaktsal lo
Renowned Sengé Dradok, The Lion’s Roar : homage to you! [Chapter 31]
བད་པ་ན་བ་ན་་འཆང་བ་ལས། ། köpa lhündrub küntu changwa lé
In Spontaneous Present Array, Samantadhara taught you
ི་་ད་གསན་རང་་མཚན་གསོལ་ནས། ། chi ti gyü sen rang gi tsen sol né
The Chiti Tantras of the Great Perfection and bestowed on you his name
ཟ་ ར་ ཧོ ལ་ོན་ལ་བེགས་པར་བགས། ། zahor yul jön langka tsekpar shyuk
Then you traveled to Zahor, to the charnel ground Laṅka Mound.
པ་་བྷར་གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། pema sambhar drak la chaktsal lo
Renowned Padmasambhava: homage to you! [Chapter 32]
་མཚར་ལ་་དགའ་རབ་ོ་་ེ ལས། །
ngotsar tulku garab dorjé lé
You were present when the amazing emanation Garab Dorjé
འཇམ་དཔལ་བས་གན་ས་གསན་བས་་གགས། ། ampal shenyen chö sen kabsu shek
Taught the Dharma to Mañjuśrīmitra.
ོགས་ན་མན་ངག་ད་དང་ོང་ེ་གསན། ། dzogchen mengak gyü dang long dé sen
Together, the two of you received the categories Of the Space and Pith Instructions of the Great Perfection.

Lord of the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 32]
་ན་ལ་ོན་པ་བེགས་པར་བགས། ། urgyen yul jön pema tsekpar shyuk
You resided, in Uḍḍiyāna, in the charnel ground Lotus Mound,
གས་ན་ན་ ར་ པོ མདོ་དང་་འལ་གསན། ། rikden chenpor do dang gyutrul sen
And, from the great Kulika28 you received the teachings on the Sūtra and the Web of Magical Illusion. 29

Next, you travelled to Kothan, to the charnel ground Mound of the World .

Renowned Dorje Drolö, Wild Wrathful Vajra : homage to you! [Chapter 33]
མཁའ་ོད་གནས་་ལས་་ི དབང་མོ་ས། ། khachö né su lé kyi wangmo ché
The great Karmendrāṇī, in the sacred place of the ḍākinīs,
ཟབ་མོ་དབང་བར་ལ་་མ་ནི ་བལ། ། zabmö wangkur tulkü tu jin tsal
Gave the profound initiations that transferred to you All the blessings and power of the Nirmanakāya.
ག་པོ་བད་པར་ོ་་ེ ས་རབ་ལས། ། tukpo köpar dorjé chö rab lé
In Ghanavyūha, guided by Supreme Vajra Dharma,
དབང་བ་་བོ་ོགས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། wang shyi chuwo dzok la chaktsal lo
You completely accomplished the four rivers of empowerment: homage to you! [Chapter 34]

In the Golden Land 30 within a solitary cave protected,

Śrī Siṃha gave you the empowerment of the display of awareness.

From there, you travelled on to the Sāla Lands 31 To the charnel ground Display of Great Mystery .
ཐོད་ེང་ལ་་གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tötreng tsal du drak la chaktsal lo
Renowned Tötreng Tsal, Radiant Garland of Skulls : homage to you! [Chapter 35]
འཕགས་པ་ན་རས་གགས་ ས་ི ང་བན་ནས། ། pakpa chenrezik kyi lungten né
As foretold by Avalokiteśvara, you appeared as Brahmā
་བོ་ེ་ར་འཇམ་དཔལ་གཞོན་་ར། ། riwo tsé ngar jampal shyönnu cher

ཚངས་པར་ལ་ནས་ ས་ི ད་མཐའ་དག་གསན། ། tsangpar trul né tsi gyü tadak sen
There you received all the astrology tantras,
འག་ནེ ་ཕན་བ་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ikten pendé pel la chaktsal lo
Thus increasing success and happiness for all the world: homage to you! [Chapter 35]
བཤན་པ་ོང་ོན་གས་མན་ཐབས་ ས་ི བལ། ། shenpé drong jön rik tün tab kyi tul
You travelled on to Butcher’s Village, adopted their behaviour, And effectively tamed all the citizens who lived there

pung lung nakpor drek tsok lé la kol
In the charnel ground Black Heaps 33 you mustered hordes of evil spirits,
བན་པ་ང་བ་མཚོན་ཆ་མང་་མཛད། ། tenpa sungwé tsöncha mangdu dzé
And furnished them with weapons to protect the sacred Dharma.
་་ེ ག་པོ་ལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dorjé drakpo tsal la chaktsal lo
Dorjé Drakpo Tsal, Wrathful Vajra Might : homage to you! [Chapter 36]
དྷ་ན་་ཥར་མཁའ་འོ་དབང་་བས། ། dhana koshar khandro wang du dü
When the ḍākinīs at Dhanakośa were safely under your control,
ཟ་ ར་ ཧོ ལ་ོན་དངི ས་མ་མ་རར། ། zahor yul jön ying yum mendarar
You travelled to Zahor where you met with Mandāravā. There, this mother of all-embracing space,
ས་འང་མ་བེད་ེ་བན་ས་མག་དེ ། ། ngejung tu kyé kyé dün dzé chok nyé
Discovered the flesh of a seven-times Brahmin. 34
་མཚར་དཔག་ཡས་ང་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
ngotsar pakyé nang la chaktsal lo
Ngotsar Pakyé Nang, Infinite Appearances of Wonder: homage to you! [Chapters 37-38]
་མ་རབ་ང་འན་པར་མཁའ་ནས་གགས། ། lhacham rabjung dünpar kha né shek
Descending from the sky, how compassionately you cared for her, This princess renunciant.
ས་ ེ ་བང་བས་ལ་ོན་ལོག་ོག་ས། ། esu zungwé gyal lön loktok gi
Yet king and ministers, driven by wrong views,

Threw you on a fire, which you transformed into a lake.
ན་་དད་པར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
shintu depar dzé la chaktsal lo
You inspired tremendous faith by means of such a miracle: homage to you! [Chapters 39-41]
ལ་ིད་མ་དང་ེ་བན་་ཤ་ལ། །
gyalsi cham dang kyé dün ku sha pul
The King offered you his kingdom, offered you his daughter, Offered you the flesh of the seven-times Brahmin.
ལ་་མཐའ་དམག་དང་ན་ཐབས་ ས་ི བོག ། yul dé tamak pung chen tab kyi dok
Secured Zahor’s borders and taught The Ocean of Dharma,

You accomplished the supreme vajra body of inseparable union.

Residing for a while on the slopes of Slate Mountain,37
ེ་བད་གངས་པས་ས་ནི ་ས་ལ་བད། ། kyé gyü sungpé lü jin chö la kö
You told Mandhebhadrā of her future lives, And faithfully she gave her body as an offering. You established firmly the Dharma
་ངན་ད་བལ་ས་ལ་ན་ ར་ པོ བར། ། nya ngen mé tul chögyal chenpor gyur
And converted Aśoka into a mighty Dharma King.
ད་ོང་དབང་པོ་ེ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gelong wangpö dé la chaktsal lo
Bhikṣu Indrasena: homage to you! [Chapter 45]
་ཏ་ལ་ོན་གག་ད་ར་ོད་བགས། ། bé té yul jön tsuk gü durtrö shyuk
Your journeyed to Vedalī, to the charnel ground Nine Crowns,
་བ་ ས་ ེ བང་ར་ནི ་ན་ཡང་ངས། །
ludrub jezung sherchin chen yang drang
Where, with Nāgārjuna, you revealed the Prajñāpāramitā.
་ལར་ོན་བས་ ས་ེ འཕགས་པ་། ། shinga lar jön dzü kyé pakpa lha
You went to Singhala, 38 to Āryadeva’s miraculous birth place.
ང་ོན་ིན་ོལ་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། lung tön mindrol dzé la chaktsal lo
Teacher, prophet, you ripen and liberate others: homage to you! [Chapter 46]

བྷ་ལར་ོན་་ཛཿེགས་ན་བལ། ། bhanga lar jön ra dza drekden tul
Travelling on to Bangala, 39 you tamed the haughty king.
ལ་པོ་ལ་བང་ས་ ས་ི ལ་ིད་བང་། ། gyalpö shul zung chö kyi gyalsi kyang
Ousting him, you ruled in his stead, securing the kingdom.
ཐོགས་ད་མད་ ས་ི མན་པ་ེ་ོད་ེལ། ། tokmé ché kyi ngönpé denö pel
You prompted Asańga and his brother 40 to spread the Abhidharma,
བན་པ་ས་པར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpa gyepar dzé la chaktsal lo
Thus opening the way for the teachings to flourish: homage to you! [Chapter 47]
འས་ན་ཚོང་ས་ི་མཚན་བང་ནས། ། dreden tsong dü dombhi tsen zung né
In the market place of Dhānya41 you took the name of Ḍombhi.
ེ་བན་བ་བ ས་ ེ ཆང་འཚོང་་ན་། །
kyé dün drub nyé chang tsong bi na sa
With the flesh of a seven-times Brahmin you attained accomplishments.
ིན་ང་ོལ་མཛད་་མ་ོད་ལ་མནན། ། min ching drol dzé nyima tö la nen
Tethering the sun in the sky, you ripened the barmaid Vinasā And secured her liberation.
ལ་ ར་ པོ ཕན་པ་བབས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gyalpor penpa drub la chaktsal lo
Then you rendered assistance to the King: homage to you! [Chapter 48]
ར་ཡང་་ན་ལ་ོན་བད་ོན་ ས།ི ། lar yang orgyen yul jön dü lön gyi
Hastening your return to Uḍḍiyāna,

ར་བེགས་ར་བར་ལ་པོ་ག་པར་དད། ། mér sek chur gyur gyalpo lhakpar dé
You found evil ministers planning to burn you. You transformed their inferno into a lake,
ཚོམ་ར་བཅས་ལ་བཀའ་འས་བཤད་བ་མཛད། ། tsombur ché la ka dü shedrub dzé
And inspired the king with tremendous faith. You taught the crowd The Gathering of Transmitted Precepts , 42
མག་་དས་བ་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chok gi ngödrub tsal la chaktsal lo
And conferred the supreme accomplishments on everyone there: homage to you! [Chapter 49]
་བ་ལ་ོན་་་་བར་གས། །
nga tub yul jön sau khya dewar drak
Known as Bhikṣu Saukhyadeva, you visited the land of drummers.43
་ལ་ི ་མ་བཅས་བ་པ་མཛད། ། kala siddhi yum ché drubpa dzé
With your consort Kālasiddhī, you attained accomplishment there.
་ྂ ཀར་ ས་ ེ བང་བ་པ་ས་ལ་བད། ། hung kar jezung drubpé sa la kö
You cared for Hūṃkara, and brought forth his realization.
ས་ི་ང་ན་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chö kyi nang chen pel la chaktsal lo
Thus causing the radiance of the Dharma to shine: homage to you! [Chapter 50]
ཁ་་ལ་ོན་ལ་པོ་དྷ་གས། ། khaché yul jön gyalpo dharmé rik
You travelled on to the land of Kashmir,
་མ་དྷ་བོ་་ི ནི ་བབས་པས། ། lhacham dharma bodhi jinlab pé
Where you gave your blessing to King Dharmāśoka’s daughter. Thus, to the princess Dharmabodhī,

ngotsar tulku bi ma mi tra trung
The marvellous emanation Vimalamitra was born.
ལ་ཁམས་ས་ལ་བད་ར་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gyalkham chö la kö der chaktsal lo
And so the Dharma was established within the kingdom: homage to you! [Chapter 50]
ཟངས་ིང་ལ་ོན་མཁའ་འོ་བད་འལ་མ། ། zangling yul jön khandro düdul mé
You travelled to Tamradvīpa, where you used the vidyā mantra, 44
ག་གས་ཐོག་ས་་ེགས་་བ་བམ། ། rik ngak tok gi mutek ngabgya chom
Ḍākinī Tamer of Māras ,45 to vanquish five hundred heretics.
གར་ིང་ལ་་ོ་གས་་འལ་ ས།ི ། ser ling gyalbu khyo shuk dzutrul gyi
Quite miraculous, you tamed the prince and his wife of the Golden Land,
བལ་ནས་བ་བན་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tul né tubten pel la chaktsal lo
Which caused the Buddha’s teachings to spread in all directions: homage to you! [Chapter 51]
གཞན་ཡང་ཀ་མ་་པ་་་ལ། ། shyenyang kama rupa li yi yul
Further, in Kāmarūpa, and also in Khotan,
མ་་འ་ཤ་་ཤ་ཤ་ལ། །
ma ru a sha dru sha sham bha la
In Maru, Aśadruśa, and likewise in Śambala,
ཞང་ང་ཏ་ག་ཐོ་གར་་སོགས། །
shyangshyung ta zik to gar rukma sok
In Shang Shung, Persia, Tukhara, Rukma, and beyond,

མག་བན་ས་པར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chok ten gyepar dzé la chaktsal lo
You caused the supreme teachings to issue forth and prosper: homage to you! [Chapter 52]
་ེགས་ལ་པོ་་་བ་འག་ས། ། mutek gyalpo lu yi khyabjuk gi
When the heretic king Nāgaviṣṇu took control of Bodhgaya,
་་ེ གདན་བང་བ་མག་ས་ིང་ལ། ། dorjé den zung demchok dü nying trul
You appeared as the emanation Saṃvarakālagarbha
ོ ། ་ས་ཚར་བཅད་ར་ཡང་ཉམས་པ་གས ས། mé yi tsarché lar yang nyampa sö
And lit a raging fire which burned the heretics to dust. Afterwards you restored everything, exactly as before.
བན་པ་ག་པར་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpa lhakpar pel la chaktsal lo
Thus, peerless, you augmented and expanded the teachings: homage to you! [Chapter 52]
་་གང་འལ་ོ་ེ ་མཚན་དང་། ། detsé gang dul do jé tsen dang ni
In your taming of beings you had many Vajra names,
་་བད་པ་ར་ཡང་ང་བ་ེ། ། ku yi köpa chiryang nangwa té
Manifesting always in whatever way was needed.
པ་འོ་མན་ལ་དང་དབང་ག་མན། ། pema dro gön tsal dang wangchuk gön
Known as Mighty Lotus Protector of Beings,
ོ གས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། བ་པ་ོ་ ས་ drubpé lodrö drak la chaktsal lo
As Glorious Protector, and Accomplished Wisdom: homage to you! [Chapter 53]

pema chemchok tsal dang khandrö wang
Known as Supreme Mighty Lotus, Powerful Ḍākinī,
མན་པོ་་པ་དང་ནག་པོ་ོད། །
gönpo birwapa dang nakpo chö
Protector Virūpa, and Dark Black Conduct ,
ེ་ང་མཁའ་ིང་ལ་དང་ས་ར་ཧ། །
khyé'u chung khading tsal dang sara ha
As Mighty Youthful Garuḍa, and the great Saraha ,
པ་མངའ་བདག་ལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། pema ngadak tsal la chaktsal lo
And Mighty Lotus King :homage to you! [Chapter 53]
པ་ན་་་དང་ཆགས་མག་ལ། །
pema küntugyu dang chak chok tsal
Known as Lotus Ascetic , Desire Supreme and Mighty ,
པ་འོ་བ་བས་དང་ནི ་ལས་མན། ། pema drowé kyab dang trinlé gön
Lotus Protector of Beings, Protector of Enlightened Activity,
པ་དོན་ཡོད་ཞགས་པ་ག་བདི ་འོ། ། pema dön yö shyakpa ziji tro
As Meaningful Lotus Lasso , and Radiant Splendour,
པ་ི་བ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
pema dombhi wa la chaktsal lo
And Padma Ḍombhi : homage to you! [Chapter 53]
གས་ན་ན་པོ་པ་དཀར་པོ་དང་། ། rikden chenpo pema karpo dang
Known as White Lotus , Lotus Skull-Garland and Padma Vajra ,
པ་བ་པ་ཐོད་ེང་ེ། །
pema benza pema tötreng té
As all these rapturous noble ones, your twenty emanations,

འདོད་ར་ར་བ་འལ་མཚན་་་ས། ། dögur gyurwé trul tsen nyishu yi
In all these forms you rain on us
ཟབ་གསང་ས་ཆར་ཕབས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། zabsang chö char pab la chaktsal lo
The profound and secret Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 53]
ཡང་་ཤོད་ོན་་་་ི དང་། །
yang lé shö jön shakya dé wi dang
You travelled on to Yangleshö, where, with the consort Śākyadevī,
ན་ག་ག་ན་མག་་ག་འན་བ། ། lhenchik chakchen chok gi rigdzin drub
You attained the supreme level of the Mahāmudrā Vidyādhara.
བར་ཆད་ན་བལ་གར་གས་བ་བད་།ི ། barché kün tul ter rik chobgyé kyi
Having conquered every obstacle, you gave secret teachings
མག་གསང་བོ་བ་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chok sang drowa dzé la chaktsal lo
On eighteen supremely secret treasures: homage to you! [Chapter 54]
ཚ་བ་ཤོད་ས་ས་བདག་མད་བ་བལ། ། tsawé shö dü sadak ché shyi tul
In the place known as Hot Valley 46 you tamed The Four Great Earth Ladies .47
གསང་བ་བདག་ ས་ པོ ང་བན་ཟབ་གར་དེ ། ། sangwé dakpö lungten zabter nyé
You revealed a profound treasure, as foretold by Vajrapāṇi.
་་ེ གདན་་་མ་ང་ས་བད། ། dorjé den du nyima sengé tü
King Suryasiṃha welcomed you, received you in Bodhgaya,

བན་པ་བདག་ ར་ པོ མངའ་གསོལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpé dakpor ngasol chaktsal lo
Enthroning you as sovereign of the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 54]
ད་པར་ོན་ི་གས་བེད་ས་ིན་པས། ། khyepar ngön gyi tukkyé dü minpé
Trisong Deutsen, emanation of Mañjuśrī,
བོད་ལ་འཇམ་དཔལ་ི་ོང་ེ་བཙན་འངས། ། böyul jampal trisong detsen trung
Took birth in Tibet as the result of previous aspirations.
ནར་སོན་དམ་པ་གས་མག་ཡོངས་་སད། ། nar sön dampé rik chok yongsu sé
Reaching full maturity, he joined the supreme noble family,
ས་འར་བངས་པར་བད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chökhor shyengpar shyé la chaktsal lo
And his heart developed the wish to establish the Dharma in Tibet: homage to you! [Chapter 54]
བོད་འབངས་མས་ལ་ལས་ཐབས་གདམ་ཀ་བར། ། bö bang nam la lé tab dam ka kur
Having requested his subjects to decide on a site,
གག་ལག་བངས་གསོལ་་ ས་ ེ ས་དད་བཙལ། ། tsuklak shyeng sol bi jé saché tsal
The King sent the sage known as Birjé to inspect the land. His purpose and intent was the construction of a temple.
ཟ་ ར་ ཧོ ལ་ནས་མཁན་ན་་བ་མཚོ། ། zahor yul né khenchen shyiwa tso
He invited Śāntarakṣita to come from Zahor
ན་ངས་ད ས་ེ བན་མཇལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chendrang gyé shyin jal la chaktsal lo
And with joy, when he arrived, he welcomed the great scholar: homage to you! [Chapters 55-57]

ར་ཡང་མཁན་ ས་ པོ ོན་རབས་ང་བན་ནས། ། lar yang khenpö ngön rab lungten né
Again and again Śāntarakṣita reminded the king Of the aspirations they had made together, lifetimes ago.
ོབ་དཔོན་ན་འེན་ཕོ་ཉ་བར་་གཏང་། ། lobpön chendren ponya kyar té tang
Thus, messengers were dispatched to invite you, the master Padmasambhava.
བེ་བས་ཞལ་བས་མ་ོན་བོད་ཁམས་ི། ། tsewé shyalshyé rim jön bö kham kyi
Compassionately you accepted and made your way to Tibet,
་ིན་གག་པ་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། lhasin dukpa tul la chaktsal lo
Taming all the countless gods and demons on the way: homage to you! [Chapters 58-60]
ོད་ང་མདར་ོན་གཞོང་པ་་་བཏོན། ། tö lung dar jön shyongpé lha chu tön
Arriving at the Tolung Valley, you conjured the Shongpé Lhachu spring.
ར་མཁར་་འམ་ས་ལ་འར་བཅས་མཇལ། ། zur khar chü dram chögyal khor ché jal
And on the river bank at Surkar 48 you first met the Dharma King.
ག་ལ་མ་འཆམས་ོ་ེ ་མར་བངས་ང་། ། chak la ma cham dorjé gur shyeng shing
His retinue was with him and, when he failed to bow, You sang vajra verses and displayed wondrous miracles,
་འལ་མ་ས་དད་བདེ ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dzutrul tu yi dé kyé chaktsal lo
Inspiring great faith in his mind: homage to you! [Chapter 61]
ལ་ ས་ པོ ས་བད་འོད་བཤགས་མད་ནེ ་བངས། ། gyalpö gütü gyö shak chörten shyeng
Bowing low with devotion, and to show his contrition, The king commanded that five stupas be built.49

བསམ་ཡས་མལ་བས་གར་ ར་ི ཞབས་པད་བད། ། samyé til peb ser trir shyabpé kö
Then, you were guided to the construction site of Samyé ,50 Where your lotus-feet were placed upon a golden throne.
བེན་བར་ར་མཛད་ས་ག་ནི ་བས་གསོལ། ། nyenkur cher dzé sa shyi jinlab sol
In deep veneration the king asked for your blessing
ད ས་ེ པས་ཞལ་བས་ལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gyepé shyalshyé tsal la chaktsal lo
On the land, and, with joy, you fulfilled his request: homage to you! [Chapter 61]
ས་གནད་་བཙའ་མང་བངས་་གར་བག ། sa né mé tsa mang shyeng lu ter chuk
You called for temples in key locations And entrusted the nāgas with the protection of Samyé’s wealth.
ཧས་པོ་་ ར་ེ ེགས་ཚོགས་ལས་ལ་བལ། ། hepö ri tser drek tsok lé la kol
At the peak of Hepori 51 you enjoined the haughty spirits
མཁའ་ལ་ོ་ེ ་གར་མཛད་ིབ་མ་སར། ། kha la dorjé gar dzé dribmé sar
You rose into the sky and performed the Vajra Dance. Wherever your dancing shadow fell,
གས་་ང་བང་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chakri mang ting dzé la chaktsal lo
The spirits gathered earth and stone To be laid as Samyé’s foundation: homage to you! [Chapter 62]
་རབ་ིང་བ་ིང་ན་་་ལ། ། rirab ling shyi ling tren nyidé tsul
Samyé’s three storeys and surrounding temples Were a clear representation of our own world-system— Mount Meru in the centre, then the four continents, Subcontinents, the sun and the moon, and everything encircled

གས་ས་གས་བ ར་ོ ་མོ་ིང་གམ་བཅས། ། chakri lek kor jomo ling sum ché
By an outer perimeter, a ring of iron mountains.
ན་མཚན་་དང་་ན་ཚོགས་ ས་ི བགི ས། ། nyintsen mi dang mi min tsok kyi tsik
Samyé was built by humans in the daytime and by spirits at night,
་འལ་་ར་བ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། mi trul tabur drub la chaktsal lo
And all was accomplished like a magical display: homage to you! [Chapter 62]
བསམ་ཡས་མམས་ར་་འལ་དངས་པར་བགས། ། samyé chimpur lu dul gongpar shyuk
At Samyé Chimpu , 52 in your wisdom you tamed the nāgas,
མངའ་བདག་་ེ དང་ོགས་ེལ་གར་མང་ལ། ། ngadak jé dang drok drel ser mang pul
Thus forging a connection between nāgas and king. The nāgas, in turn, offered quantities of gold.
་ཁང་ང་ལི ་དངས་པ་ལ་ ས་ི བཏགས། ། lhakhang chong dril gongpé tsal gyi tak
Under your guidance, the temple bell was hung, and
དར་ང་གར་གཏད་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། korsung nyerté dzé la chaktsal lo
You delegated spirits as the monastery’s guards: homage to you! [Chapter 63]
ལོ་་ངས་འོངས་མཁན་ན་་འཚོ་དང་། ། lo ngé khong jong khenchen shyitso dang
Within five years, Samyé’s construction was completed. Then, together with Śāntarakṣita,
ད་པར་ོ་་ེ དངི ས་ི་དིལ་འར་། ། khyepar dorjé ying kyi kyilkhor du
By means of the mighty Vajradhātu maṇḍala,

You performed the consecration, tossing multitudes of flowers.
་མཚར་བསམ་ཡས་བན་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
ngotsar samyé ten la chaktsal lo
Thus you revealed the amazing wonder that was Samyé: homage to you! [Chapter 64]
གཞན་ཡང་ར་ས་་འག་ལ་སོགས་པར། ། shyenyang ra satra druk lasokpar
Next came your consecration of the holy sites of Lhasa, Of Tradrug,53 and of others such as these.
རབ་གནས་བལ་ང་ས་འར་ན་པོ་ད། ། rabné tsal shying chökhor chenpo nyi
For all who come upon these great sacred places,
འེལ་ཚད་དོན་ན་རབ་བགས་བེན་བར་གདམས། ། dreltsé dönden rab ngak nyenkur dam
Who consider them, praise them, revere or explain them,
བསོད་ནམས་མཐའ་ས་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། sönam ta gyé pel la chaktsal lo
The merit of such beings will multiply beyond imagining. Homage, therefore, to these great places! [Chapter 65]
ོབ་དཔོན་གས་ ས་ི ས་འར་གས་བ་པས། ། lobpön nyi kyi chökhor lek drubpé
Having successfully turned the Wheel of Dharma,
ར་ལ་་གར་འོན་བད་བཀའ་གནང་བར། ། lar la gyagar jön shyé ka nangwar
The two masters decreed their return to India,
མངའ་བདག་གང་བས་གསོལ་བཏབ་བགས་པར་ས། ། ngadak dungwé soltab shyukpar shyü
But the king, heartbroken, begged them to stay,

ཞལ་བས་བཀའ་ནི ་བངས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། shyalshyé kadrin kyang la chaktsal lo
And in your great kindness you agreed to remain: homage to you! [Chapter 66]
ལ་ ས་ པོ གས་གས་ིམས་ ས་ི ག་བང་། ། gyalpö luk nyi trim kyi shyi zung té
The king, a great ruler, established the kingdom.
་རོ་་ག་མ་གམ་ང་བན་ར། ། bai ro ka chok nam sum lungten tar
As foretold, he issued invitations To Vairocana, Kawa Paltsek, and Chökro Lui Gyaltsen.
ན་ངས་ལོ་་བབས་པས་མཁས་པར་མནེ ། ། chendrang lo tsa labpé khepar khyen
They trained as translators, became rare scholars,
མདོ་གས་ཐོག་མར་བར་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། do ngak tokmar gyur la chaktsal lo
And pioneered translations of both sūtra and tantra: homage to you! [Chapter 70]
ར་ཡང་ལོ་་བ་དང་བད་བས་། ། lar yang lo tsa gya dang gyé dü té
This gathering of the hundred and eight lotsāwas,
སད་་བན་དང་ད་ོང་་་མས། ། sé mi dün dang gelong mi nga nam
The Seven Chosen Ones 54 and the five fully ordained ones.
རབ་་ང་ནས་བ་བན་དང་ ར་ པོ ེལ། ། rabtu jung né tubten dangpor pel
Marked the first triumph of the Buddha’s teaching,
བན་པ་ག་མ་བགས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpé shyima tsuk la chaktsal lo
And planted firm the stake of the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 71]

་མས་་གར་ས་འཚོལ་བཏང་བ་ལས། ། denam gyagar chö tsol tangwa lé
Of all those who left in search of the Dharma,
་རོ་ཙ་ན་གས་བ་ོན་ལ་བོལ། ། bai rotsa na lek drub ngön la tol
Vairocana and Legdrub were the first to reach India.
་་ེ གདན་་པཎ་ན་་་ར། །
dorjé den du penchen nyishu ngar
In Bodhgaya they met with twenty-five paṇḍitas,
ས་ི་བད་་ི བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chö kyi dütsi shyé la chaktsal lo
And from them received the nectar-like teachings: homage to you! [Chapter 72]
ད་པར་་ ས་ རོ ི་་ཧ་ལས། ། khyepar bai rö shri sim halé
Foremost, Vairocana received from Śrī Siṃha
ོགས་ན་མས་ོང་གཙ ར་ོ ར་ཟབ་དོན་གསན། ། dzogchen sem long tsor gyur zab dön sen
The profound Mind and Space Sections of the Great Perfection.
ང་མོགས་བ་ནས་བོད་་འོན་པར་ཆས། ། kang gyok drub né bö du jönpar ché
He accomplished ‘swift-footedness’, made preparations
གས་བོད་མར་་བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tok jö gur du shyé la chaktsal lo
To return to Tibet, singing songs of realization: homage to you! [Chapter 73]
ཙན་ིང་་ས་བདག་ ས་ ེ བང་། ། tsenden ling du sadak jezung
In the Land of Sandalwood he kept the local leaders safe.
གཅན་འང་བལ་ནས་བལ་པོ་ལ་་ོན། ། chen trang dral né balpö yul du jön
He scaled treacherous cliffs on his way through Nepal.

བན་པ་ོབས་བོད་གངས་་ི འགས་པ་བསལ། ། denpé tob jö gang kyi jikpa sal
Wielding the power of truth, he dispelled a terrible blizzard,
བསམ་ཡས་མལ་་བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། samyé til du peb la chaktsal lo
And finally found his way back to Samyé: homage to you! [Chapters 74-75]
མངའ་བདག་ལ་ ས་ པོ མད་གནས་མག་་བར། ། ngadak gyalpö chöné chok tu kur
The king held Vairocana in highest esteem,
ཟབ་ས་གསན་་བད་ོན་ག་དོག་པས། ། zab chö sen tsé dü lön trakdok pé
And from him received profound teachings. But his ministers were evil, consumed with jealousy,
ཚར་གད་ས་པར་ཚབ་མ་་ལ་བར། ། tsarchö shyüpar tsab ma chu la kur
And, fearing a murder plot against Vairocana, The king himself pretended to drown him.
ིང་ ས་ ེ ོན་ལམ་བ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། nyingjé mönlam drub la chaktsal lo
Thus, at great risk, the sovereign acted from compassion: homage to you! [Chapter 75]
ར་ཡང་གགས་ཁང་ས་ནས་ས་གསན་པར། ། lar yang duk khang bé né chö senpar
Secretly, in his summer-house, the King continued to listen To Vairocana’s teachings and profound explanations.
བན་མོ་ོན་ ས་ པོ འགི ས་་ནན་གསོལ་པས། ། tsünmo lönpö trik té nen solpé
But the queen and ministers got wind of this and plotted his expulsion.
ོན་ལམ་ས་བབས་ཚ་བ་རོང་་ག ། mönlam dü bab tsawé rong du chuk
At their constant urging, Vairocana was banished, Exiled to the far-off region of Gyalmo Tsawarong .55

ོགས་ར་བ་བན་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chok der tubten pel la chaktsal lo
There, he continued to expound the teachings, Reaching far and wide across the land: homage to you! [Chapters 76-77]
ནམ་མཁ་ིང་པོ་ལ་སོགས་ལོ་་། ། namkhé nyingpo lasok lo tsa nga
A group of five lotsāwas, including Namkhé Nyingpo,56
འཕགས་པ་ལ་གཏང་ོབ་དཔོན་་ྂ ཀར་ལས། ། pakpé yul tang lobpön hung kar lé
Were dispatched to travel to the Noble Land of India. There, they were taught by the master Hūṃkara
ཡང་དག་བ་པ་་ོ་བ་གསན། །
yangdak drubpa shyitrö drub sen
On Śrī Heruka and the assembly of Peaceful and Wrathful deities.
ན་ ས་ི དས་བ་བ ས་ ེ ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། kün gyi ngödrub nyé la chaktsal lo
In this way they each attained extraordinary siddhis: homage to you! [Chapter 78]
དཔལ་ང་ོན་ོན་ལམ་་ེན་ ས་ི གགས། ། pal seng ngön jön lam du kyen gyi shek
Returning early from India, and facing great obstacles, Langchen Palseng died on the way.
མངའ་བདག་བན་ནས་ད་་ན་ངས་བས། ། ngadak nyün né chedu chendrang peb
Some time later, the sovereign himself fell sick And the other four lotsāwas were recalled to Tibet.
ནམ་མཁ་ིང་ ས་ པོ ནི ་བབས་བན་ངས་ང་། ། namkhé nyingpö jinlab nyün dang shing
Namkhé Nyingpo worked marvellous miracles
་མཚར་་འལ་བན་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། །
ngotsar chotrul ten la chaktsal lo
And, with the blessings of these, the king’s health was restored: homage to you! [Chapter 79] 32
ལ་ ས་ པོ བེན་བར་ཟབ་ས་གསན་པ་། ། gyalpö nyenkur zab chö senpé tsé
The king praised Namkhai Nyingpo And received his profound teachings,
བན་མོ་བད་ོན་མས་ ས་ི བར་ཆད་བམས། ། tsünmo dü lön nam kyi barché tsam
But the queen and evil ministers plotted anew.
ོ་ག་མཁར་ར་གགས་ང་བ་པ་མཛད། ། lho drak khar chur shek shing drubpa dzé
They forced his exile to Lhodrak Kharchu ,57
དས་བ་མག་བ ས་ ེ མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ngödrub chok nyé dzé la chaktsal lo
Where he stayed and practiced, and attained the supreme siddhis: homage to you! [Chapter 79]
མངའ་བདག་ས་ ར་ ི གས་དངས་་འདེ ་པས། ། ngadak chö chir tukgong mi jepé
Not yet content with the status of the Dharma,
ཐབས་མཁས་ལ་ ས་ི བན་གས་འག་པར་བགས། ། tabkhé tsul gyi ten nyi dzukpar drak
The king, skilled in means, proclaimed the establishment of the Two Doctrines.58
་ག་་གམ་པཎ་ན་ན་ངས་གཏང་། །
ka chok ma sum penchen chendrang tang
He dispatched the lotsawas Ka, Chog, and Ma59 to seek a great scholar,
ར་་ོང་་བོལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། serkyé drong du tol la chaktsal lo
And accordingly they made the journey to Kapilavastu: homage to you! [Chapter 80]
པཎ་བ་་བ་གག་ན་་མ་ལ། ། pendrub ngabgyé tsukgyen bimala
Vimalamitra was waiting, crown jewel of five hundred scholars,

ལ་ ར་ པོ བཀའ་བོལ་ན་ངས་ར་་བས། ། gyalpor ka trol chendrang nyurdu peb
And, with royal assent,60 he set off without delay.
་འལ་མ་བན་མངའ་བདག་རབ་དད་ནས། ། dzutrul tu ten ngadak rab dé né
Arriving at Samyé, he displayed wondrous miracles, Inspiring in the Dharma King61 tremendous faith.
མད་ཡོན་ད ས་ེ བན་མཇལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chöyön gyé shyin jal la chaktsal lo
Showered with joyous offerings, he received a royal welcome: homage to you! [Chapters 80-81]
གཞན་ཡང་ོབ་དཔོན་སངས་ས་གསང་བ་སོགས། ། shyenyang lobpön sangye sangwa sok
A further hundred great paṇḍitas were invited to Tibet, Including, among others, the great master Buddhaguhya.
པཎ་ན་བ་་ན་ངས་བོན་ོན་བག །
penchen gya tsa chendrang bön tön kuk
Their mission was to quell the argumentative Bön masters.
ས་དང་ོད་པ་འན་པས་ཕམ་མཛད་། ། nü dang tsöpa drenpé pam dzé dé
In debate and feats of power, they soundly crushed these opponents,
ས་དཀར་ང་ན་ས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chö kar nang chen gyé la chaktsal lo
Allowing the pure brilliance of the Dharma to shine: homage to you! [Chapter 82]
་ ས་ རོ ག་་ས་ ར་ ི ་གགས་གཏང་། ། bai rö yu dra chö chir shyu tuk tang
Vairocana sent Yudra Nyinpo to spread the authentic Dharma.62
ལོ་པཎ་ལ་ོན་ད་ས་ལོ་་། ། lo pen gyal lön yiché lo tsa ché
Acknowledged as a great lotsawa by translators, king, and ministers,

ན་ངས་ོགས་བོད་གངས་པས་རབ་་དད། ། chendrang tok jö sungpé rabtu dé
When he spoke of his realization tremendous faith inspired them all,
བགས་པ་་ཏོག་འ ར་ ཐོ ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ngakpé metok tor la chaktsal lo
And they showered Yudra Nyinpo with praise: homage to you! [Chapter 83]
མཁན་ོབ་་མ་་རོ་ག ར་ ཙོ ར་པར། ། khen lob bi ma bai ro tsor gyurpar
The chief scholars there, Vairocana and Vimalamitra,
ལ་ ས་ པོ དད་པས་བེན་བར་གསོལ་བཏབ་བན། ། gyalpö depé nyenkur soltab shyin
Were greatly revered and trusted by the king.63
ེ་ོད་ད་ེ་དངས་འེལ་དང་བཅས་པ། ། denö gyüdé gong drel dang chepa
At his request they taught, translated, and explained,
བར་བཤད་འཆད་ཉན་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gyur shé chenyen dzé la chaktsal lo
Inspiring all who heard them to take up the study Of the tripiṭaka, tantras and commentaries: homage to you! [Chapter 84]
གཞན་ང་ན་བམས་ཕན་དེ ་ན་ང་བར། ། shyen jung men tsam pen jé kün kyang gyur
Translations were made of everything beneficial, Such as scientific texts on medicine and astrology.
བ་བན་ཡོངས་ོགས་ེགས་བམ་ེང་བར་ེལ། ། tubten yongdzok lekbam trengwar pel
The complete and perfect volumes of the teachings thus unfolded, Streaming forth – a garland of the Buddha’s words.
མད་ང་མངའ་གསོལ་རབ་གནས་་ཏོག་འ ར། ཐོ ། chö ching ngasol rabné metok tor
Held in highest reverence, installed and established, And consecrated all around with flowers.

བ་ས་ད་མཚན་ེལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tashi getsen pel la chaktsal lo
Auspiciousness and virtuous signs increased in great abundance: homage to you! [Chapter 85]
ནམ་མཁ་ིང་ ས་ པོ ག་ལ་མ་འཆམས་པར། ། namkhé nyingpö chak la machampar
When Namkhé Nyingpo did not bow to the king,
ོན་པོ་ཚོགས་ ས་ི འ་བར་བམས་པ་ལ། ། lönpö tsok kyi tsewar tsampa la
His omission drove the ministers to the brink of revenge.
་འལ་མ་བན་གསང་གས་་བ་བཏནོ ། ། dzutrul tu ten sang ngak chewa tön
But the Secret Mantra yogi conjured wondrous miracles,
བད་ོན་་བང་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dü lön pakong dzé la chaktsal lo
And brought down the demon-minded ministers: homage to you! [Chapter 85]
ལ་ ས་ པོ ལོ་་བཀའ་ནི ་ ས་ ེ ན་ནས། ། gyalpö lo tsé kadrin jedren né
Remembering the great kindness of all these lotsāwas,
ེ་ོད་ས་ོན་བཤད་དང་བ་ེ་བགས། ། denö dü tön shé dang drubdé tsuk
The King established holy days and study-practice centres.
བེན་བར་འབངས་ལ་ས་་ི ོལ་ན་གཏོད། ། nyenkur bang la chö kyi sol chen tö
Thus, to his devoted people, he introduced the ways and means of Dharma,
བན་པ་མཐའ་ས་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpa ta gyé dzé la chaktsal lo
And encouraged the teachings to flourish far and wide: homage to you! [Chapter 85]

བསམ་ཡས་་ནེ ་བགས་ང་་ར་བཏབ། ། samyé ku ten shyuk jang yiger tab
He had statues installed at Samyé, and inscriptions made.
གང་ནེ ་མདོ་གས་ས་ི་འར་ང་བད། ། sung ten do ngak chö kyi gyur jang kö
The sūtras and tantras, supports of enlightened speech, Were compiled at his command into the volumes of the Kangyur and Tengyur.
པཎ་ན་མས་ལ་བེན་བར་ར་མཛད་ནས། ། penchen nam la nyenkur cher dzé né
Then the great scholars, amid resounding praise,
རང་གནས་ད ས་ེ པར་གགས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། rangné gyepar shek la chaktsal lo
Returned content to their homelands: homage to you! [Chapters 86-88]
མཁན་ན་ང་བ་ིང་དང་ོབ་དཔོན་། །
khenchen changchub ling dang lobpön ché
The Great Abbot64 remained at the Temple of Awakening65
བསམ་ཡས་མམས་ར་གས་དམ་དངས་པར་བགས། ། samyé chimpur tukdam gongpar shyuk
While you, the master Padmasambhava, meditated at Samyé Chimpu.
ཟབ་ས་ ས་ོ ལ་མང་གངས་པ་གསལ། ། zab chö lö khel mang sung pema sal
There, you bestowed extensive Dharma teachings,
ོ་ར་གགས་ལ་ནི ་བབས་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། lobur shek la jinlab chaktsal lo
And, at her sudden death, you revived Pema Sal: homage to you! [Chapter 89]
་ག་གཏམ་དང་མ་འོངས་ང་བན་ང་། ། mi tak tam dang ma ong lungten ching
You gave teachings on impermanence and told the princess her future,

་མ་ང་དང་འང་འར་ ས་ེ རབས་བལ། ། lhacham jung dang jung gyur kyerab tsal
Disclosing her past lives and those to come.
གར་ས་གང་ཟག་མཚན་ད་ཟབ་མོ་གར། ། terchö gangzak tsennyi zabmö ter
You described the various qualities of the treasure-revealers
ས་ལ་མ ར་ དོ བན་གངས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། bé tsul dorten sung la chaktsal lo
And the manner of concealing the profound terma treasures: homage to you! [Chapters 89-91]
་མས་འདོན་པར་སངས་ས་་མ་ནས། ། denam dönpar sangye lama né
You recounted the names of the treasure revealers
བ་ིང་བར་་ས་གས་བཅས་པ་དང་། ། dé ling bardu dü tak chepa dang
From Sangyé Lama66 to Dechen Lingpa,
ཞར་ང་མང་་འང་བར་ང་བན་པས། ། shyarjung mangdu jungwar lungtenpé
And foretold the various ways in which they would appear, Based on their respective lives and times.
མངའ་བདག་ད ས་ེ པ་བེད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ngadak gyepa kyé la chaktsal lo
Thus you sparked tremendous joy in the king: homage to you! [Chapter 92]
གར་འནི ་ ས་ེ ར་ཞལ་གདམས་ིང་གཏམ་བཞག ། ter jin kyebur shyaldam nying tam shyak
You gave heart-advice instructions to future treasure revealers,
གར་ོན་བག་ཐབས་་གང་གས་ཡོན་ཏན། ། tertön tak tab ku sung tuk yönten
Expounding on the marks of their enlightened body, Expounding on the marks of their enlightened speech and mind,

ནི ་ལས་གཙ ར་ོ ར་བ་གནས་ང་བན་ང་། ། trinlé tsor gyur drubné lungten ching
And on the marks of their enlightened qualities and activity. You foretold the sites where the treasures would be discovered,
བན་པ་འལ་འིབ་གང་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tenpé peldrib sung la chaktsal lo
And you spoke of the waxing and waning of the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapters 93-96]
མངའ་བདག་ང་ད་ལོན་་་གགས་པར། ། ngadak ngagu lön tsé ku shekpar
At the age of fifty-nine, the king passed away,
བ་བར་གསང་ང་ལ་ིད་བང་ལ་མཛད། ། chushyir sang shying gyalsi kyang tsul dzé
A fact that you kept secret for fourteen years. Ruling the kingdom, you ensured in due succession
མ་པར་་ས་་་་ག་བཙན། ། rimpar lhasé muné mutik tsen
The enthronements of the Princes Muné and Mutik Tsenpo.
ལ་སར་མངའ་གསོལ་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། gyalsar ngasol dzé la chaktsal lo
And in each case you empowered the newly appointed kings 67: homage to you! [Chapter 97]
་ར་གས་གས་བཀའ་ནི ་བསམ་ཡས་མཐར། ། detar luk nyi kadrin samyé tar
Having shown infinite kindness towards both Dharma and society,
ིན་ལ་གགས་དངས་་ས་ག་བལ་བསལ། ། sin yul shek gong lhasé dukngal sal
Your intention was to leave for the Land of Rākṣasas. But, to ease the sorrow of the grieving prince,68
བཀའ་འས་ིང་ག་འོན་བགས་མ་ཐར་གངས། ། ka dü nyingtik jön shyuk namtar sung
You gave the Great Gathering of Transmitted Precepts, And the Heart Essence teachings, and your own life story. 39
དགས་འནི ་ག་པར་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ukjin lhakpar tsal la chaktsal lo
Thus, you were able to soothe his despair: homage to you! [Chapter 97]
ར་ཡང་་ས་གང་བས་བཤོལ་བཏབ་ང་། ། lar yang lhasé dungwé shol tab kyang
Again bereft, the prince begged you to remain.
ིན་འལ་ས་ལ་བབས་པས་མ་གནང་ང་། ། sin dul dü la babpé ma nang shying
But it was time to tame the Rākṣasas, and therefore you declined.
ཞལ་གདམས་་ི དང་ད་པར་བ་་གངས། ། shyaldam chi dang khyepar shyibtu sung
You gave instructions and advice, broadly and in detail,
འལ་ད་ནི ་བབ་ཞལ་བས་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dralmé jin lab shyalshyé chaktsal lo
Promising to everyone your constant blessing: homage to you! [Chapter 98]
ད་པར་གཡོ་་་འག་མས་ོད་། ། khyepar yo ru tra druk khyam tö du
High on the upper terrace of Tradrug in Yoru ,
་ས་་ེ འབངས་ལོ་་ར་གག་སོགས། ། lhasé jebang lo tsa nyerchik sok
Before the assembled company of prince and disciples, And the twenty-one lotsāwas, and countless others,
འས་པ་་ི མར་བཀའ་འས་་མཚོ་། ། düpa chimar ka dü gyatso yi
For the benefit of the future, you disclosed the teachings, The Ocean of Dharma, Great Gathering of Transmitted Precepts.
ས་འར་ག་པར་བ ར་ོ ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chökhor lhakpar kor la chaktsal lo
Spinning the ocean-like wheel of the Dharma: homage to you! [Chapter 99]

་་་མ་མ་ར་བ་ད། །
detsé lhacham mendara ba nyi
At that very moment, the Princess Mandāravā
་འལ་མས་ོན་་་བ་བོད་དང་། ། dzutrul tü jön gurü da tö dang
Magically appeared in praise of you, her Guru.
མཚན་བཟང་བགས་ང་་ཚབ་ཡོན་ཏན་དང་། ། tsen zang ngak shing kutsab yönten dang
She sang of your excellent signs and marks. In turn, you revealed the infinite benefits Of praying to your statues, your representations.
་ི ནང་ཞལ་མས་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། chinang shyal chem tsal la chaktsal lo
Then, you bestowed your outer and inner testaments: homage to you! [Chapters 100-101]
་ས་མག་བ་ལ་ ར་ པོ རབ་བེ་བས། ། lhasé chok drub gyalpor rab tsewé
Lovingly, you gave the prince the supreme accomplishment,
ས་ི་ལ་ ར་ པོ མངའ་གསོལ་ང་བན་ང་། ། chö kyi gyalpor ngasol lungten ching
Foretelling how his sons would all become great Dharma Kings.
ེ་བ་བན་པར་དག་དང་ཕན་ཡོན་བལ། ། kyewa dünpar uk yung penyön tsal
You also shared the healing and beneficial powder From the flesh of the seven-times Brahmin.
གས་དངས་ོགས་པར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། tukgong dzokpar dzé la chaktsal lo

At the Tsenthang Temple , you gave to Queen Ngag Chung

At their constant questioning, you effortlessly gave guidance

To Yeshé Tsogyal and Tashi Kyidren: homage to you! [Chapter 103]
གནས་ར་ལ་པོ་་དང་གཟའ་མས་འས། ། né der gyalpo lu dang za nam dü
You met in sacred places with gyalpos, nāgas, and planetary spirits.
ལ་མནན་མཚང་ས་དམ་བཞག་ོག་ིང་ངས། ། zil nen tsang drü damshyak soknying lang
You overpowered them, revealed their faults, Bound them to oath, and took their life-force.
བན་པ་ང་བར་གར་གཏད་མ་འོངས་ད། ། tenpa sungwar nyerté ma ong ché
Entrusting such spirits to safeguard the teachings for the future,
མན་ོད་རབ་འམས་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། ngönchö rabjam tsal la chaktsal lo
You engaged in countless ferocious activities: homage to you! [Chapter 104]
་ས་ལ་ ར་ པོ ཞལ་མས་བ་བལ་མཐར། ། lhasé gyalpor shyal chem shyib tsal tar
Having imparted your last testament in detail to the prince,
ར་་ིན་ལ་འོན་པར་བཀའ་བལ་པས། ། nyurdu sin yul jönpar ka tsalpé
You announced your departure for the Land of Rākṣasas.
དཔལ་ི་འ ར་ ོ པས་མད་ང་་འ ས་ོ བཏང་། ། pal gyi jorpé chö ching nga drö tang
Receiving abundant offerings, you set out at dawn, 42
ར་མཁར་ཚལ་་བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། zur khar tsal du peb la chaktsal lo
Quickly reaching your destination, the forest at Zur Kar : homage to you! [Chapter 105]
ར་་ལ་ོན་འབངས་བཅས་ེལ་མར་འས། ། der ni gyal lön bang ché kyelmar dü
There, your disciples, king, ministers, and others,
ཚོགས་ས་གང་བར་གསོལ་བཏབ་གས་ག་ ། tsok chö sungwar soltab rik druk gi
Requested you to expound the Dharma one more time.
ག་བལ་ལས་བམས་ས་འང་ས་ལ་བལ། ། dukngal lé tsam ngejung chö la kul
You began with the suffering inherent in the six realms, Inspiring renunciation and a yearning to practice.
ལམ་ཟབ་ིང་པོ་བལ་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། lam zab nyingpo tsal la chaktsal lo
Thus you granted them the essence of the profound path: homage to you! [Chapter 106]
་ན་གནས་ོན་་ཀ་བན་བགས་མཛད། ། lhaden né jön jo shaka tenshyuk dzé
Then, travelling through Lhasa, you blessed the Jowo Śākyamuni,
ལ་ོན་རབ་ང་གས་ན་ ས་ི པ་དང་། ། gyal lön rabjung ngak men tsipa dang
Accompanied by quite a crowd – the king and ministers, Tantric practitioners, physicians and, astrologers,
ིན་བདག་ཕོ་མོ་ཚོགས་ི་ཞབས་ེལ་བཅས། ། indak pomö tsok kyi shyab kyel ché
And countless sponsors, both men and women.
དཔལ་མོ་དཔལ་ཐང་་བས་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། palmo pal tang peb la chaktsal lo
This is how you reached the plain of Palmo Palthang : homage to you! [Chapter 107]

Then, with great compassion, you gave meditation instructions

Suited to the individual minds of the audience.
ན་མོང་འལ་ན་བབ་་ས་པར་གངས། ། tünmong tral yün labja gyepar sung
You gave all-embracing advice, for now and the future,
ན་ད་མ་པར་མཛད་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། kün yitsim par dzé la chaktsal lo
Fulfilling all wishes and desires: homage to you! [Chapter 107]
ར་ཡང་གང་བས་བཤོལ་བཏབ་མ་གནང་ེ། ། lar yang dungwé shol tab ma nang té
Again filled with sorrow, they begged you to remain.
ང་ཐང་ལ་ཁར་མཁའ་འོ་བ་བ་བཅས། ། gung tangla khar khandrö suwa ché
However, you declined and, at the Gungtang Pass, Surrounded by a host of welcoming ḍākinīs,
ནམ་མཁར་འཕགས་ང་ོ་ེ ་མར་་གངས། ། namkhar pak shing dorjé gur lu sung
You rose into the sky, singing vajra songs.
འལ་ད་ཞལ་བས་གནང་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། dralmé shyalshyé nang la chaktsal lo
You made the promise to all That you would never be far from them: homage to you! [Chapter 107]
དཔའ་བོ་ེ་བས་བས་་ི ་ངས་། ། pawo dé shyi chib kyi na drang té
Mounted on your horse, the Ḍākas as your escort, 69

You crossed the island of Siṅgala to southwestern Cāmaradvīpa.

That was how you left to go and subdue the hordes of rākṣasas: homage to you! [Chapter 107]
གང་ར་མཐར་ལམ་ན་བ་ག་འན་། ། gang der tar lam lhündrub rigdzin ché
There, the path perfected, Spontaneously Accomplished Vidyādhara,
རཀྵ་ཐོད་ེང་ལ་ི་ར་བངས་ནས། །
raksha tötreng tsal gyi kur shyeng né
You assumed the skull-garland form of Rakṣa Tötreng Tsal.
་ིད་འར་བ་མ་ོངས་བར་ད་། ། isi khorwa matongwar nyi du
From there, for as long as saṃsāra still remains,
གཞན་དོན་མཁའ་བ་ང་ལ་ག་འཚལ་ལོ། ། shyendön khakhyab nang la chaktsal lo
You will continue to send forth your endless emanations, Pervading all of space, to bring benefit to beings: homage to you! [Chapter 107]

In the land of Tibet, protected throughout the three times,
དངས་ཅན་ལ་པས་མ ས་ོ ས་གང་དངས་བཅས། ། yangchen trulpé mögü dung yang ché
This emanation of Sarasvatī, 70 with melodious yearning and devotion,

As the source for the blossoming of your enlightened activity: homage to you! [Chapter 108]
༈ །་གམ་ལ་ོན་བན་གས་ོན་་ར། ། ku sum tsul tön ten nyi drönmé bar
You reveal the three kāyas, light the beacon of the twofold teachings,
ཛམ་ིང་་ི དང་གངས་ོངས་འོ་བ་མན། ། dzam ling chi dang gangjong drowé gön
Protector of all beings throughout the Snow Land and all worlds.
མ་ཐར་ནི ་ལས་་མཚར་བསམ་་བ། ། namtar trinlé ngotsar sam mikhyab
The enlightened activity of your life and liberation Is marvellous to behold and utterly inconceivable.
་་ན་པོ་་ལ་ས་ག་འཚལ། ། guru rinpoche la gü chaktsal
Guru Rinpoche, devotedly: homage to you!
ོད་བད་དཔལ་འ ར་ ོ དས་བཤམ་ད་ལ་དང་། ། nöchü paljor ngö sham yitrul dang
With riches of the land and beings, gathered and imagined,
བདག་གཞན་ལོངས་ོད་ོ་གམ་ད་ཚོགས་བཅས། ། dakshyen longchö go sum gé tsok ché
The enjoyments of myself and others, and all our gathered virtues Of body, speech, and mind,
ོ ས་ནས། ། ན་བཟང་མད་པ་ིན་་ ས་ kunzang chöpé trin tu trö jé né
With all this radiating forth as Samantabhadra’s offering cloud,

Devotedly, I offer it all to you. Please accept, and guide me with your love!
ཐོག་ད་ས་ནས་མ་ག་འལ་དབང་ས། ། tokmé dü né marik trul wang gi
Throughout beginningless time, ignorance and confusion
ཐར་པར་ིབ་ང་འར་བ་ར་ར་པ། །
tarpar drib ching khorwé gyur gyurpa
Have obscured liberation and caused saṃsāric existence.
ོ་གམ་ ས་ི བསགས་ལས་ན་ིབ་པ་ཚོགས། ། go sum gyi sak lé nyön dribpé tsok
I confess this hoard of evil deeds of body, speech and mind
ིང་ནས་འོད་པས་བཤགས་ང་ནི ་ཆད་ོམ། ། nying né gyöpé shak shing chinché dom
And, with heartfelt remorse, I vow never to commit them again!
ིད་་ཁམས་ན་མ་དཀར་ད་བ་ཚོགས། ། sishyi kham na namkar gewé tsok
Every drop of pure virtue within both peace and existence,
བ ས་ི དང་བདི ་འར་ད་ར་བདི ་མས་དང་། ། gyi dang gyi gyur dantar gyi nam dang
That has been, will be, and is now being gathered,
ད་ང་ང་བ་མས་གས་རབ་བདེ ་ང་། ། mejung changchub sem nyi rab kyé ching
Is the fruit of cultivating the two-fold bodhicitta.
བས་ན་ང་བ་ོད་ལ་ ས་ ེ ་རངས། ། lab chen changchub chö la jé yirang
And so, in the awesome splendour of this bodhisattva activity I rejoice from the depths of my heart.

དབང་ ར་ པོ འཚམས་པ་ས་ོ་རབ་འམས་དང་། ། wangpor tsampé chögo rabjam dang
So that beings may be shown the countless doorways to the Dharma,
ད་པར་ོལ་ད་ས་པ་ག་པ་མག ། khyepar tsolmé ngepé tekpa chok
Especially the definitive vehicle of effortlessness,
་་ེ ེ་མོ་ོལ་བ་ག་ན་།ི །
dorjé tsemo drolwa drukden gyi
The vajra pinnacle adorned with the six liberations,
ས་འར་ན་ཆད་ད་པར་བ ར་ོ བར་བལ། ། chökhor gyünché mepar korwar kul
I request you to turn unceasingly the Wheel of the Dharma!
ེ་འ་་མངའ་ོ་ེ ་་མག་ད། ། kyechi mi nga dorjé ku chok nyi
To the supreme non-arising and non-ceasing Vajrakāya,
ལོག་ོག་ོ་ས་ནམ་ཡང་་ིབ་པར། ། loktok lo yi namyang mi dribpar
Utterly undefiled by ordinary confusion:
ིད་པ་་ིད་ག་བན་ར་བགས་། ། sipa jisi takten cher shyuk té
I beseech you to remain, until the end of existence,
འར་བ་དོང་ནས་གས་པར་གསོལ་བ་འབས། ། khorwa dong né trukpar solwa deb
And dredge unobstructed the deepest depths of Saṃsāra!
བདག་གཞན་འོ་བས་ས་གམ་བསགས་པ་། ། dakshyen drowé dü sum sakpa yi
All of the merit accumulated through the three times,
ཟག་བཅས་ཟག་ད་ད་ཚོགས་་མས་པ། ། zakché zakmé gé tsok chichi pa
By myself and others, whether defiled or undefiled,

་་པ་་འཕང་ར་ཐོབ་ནས། ། guru pemé gopang nyur tob né
I dedicate it now towards the attainment of the Guru,71
མ་ཐར་ནི ་ལས་ཡོངས་ོགས་འབ་ ར་ ི བོ། ། namtar trinlé yongdzok drub chir ngo
The complete and perfect accomplishment Of all the enlightened activities Of his life and liberation!
་་མ་ཐར་འ་ི ོག་བཅངས་པ་། ། gurü namtar dri lok changpa yi
For those who write, or read, or carry on their person
ཕན་ཡོན་ོ་ེ ་བན་གང་་མས་པ། ། penyön dorjé den sung chichi pa
An account such as this of the Guru’s life and liberation, These true vajra words will bring great benefit.
མ ས་ོ ན་ེ་གག་གསོལ་བ་འབས་མས་ ས།ི ། möden tsechik solwa deb nam kyi
Hence, filled with devotion, one-pointed, I pray:
གས་ད་ར་་ཐོབ་པར་ནི ་ ས་ི ོབས། ། gekmé nyurdu tobpar jingyi lob
Bless me, that I may swiftly be free from all adversity!!
ས་པ་འ་་ིན་ིང་ལོ་་བ་དྷ་ ས་ི ་ན་མ་ཐར་བཀའ་ཐང་ང་བད་མ་ཞལ་ང་བད་པ་ད་གར་ བཞག །ན་མེན་་མ་པ་འོད་གསལ་མདོ་གས་ིང་པས་བཀའ་ཐང་ལ་ག་མ་དོན་ཡོངས་་ོགས་པར་ཁ་ བངས་་བག་ག་་མཛད་པ་གར་གང་དང་་གས་པ་ ིན་བས་དང་ན་པ་ལ། ར་ཡང་ང་་ག་ འཚལ་ཽཀ་གམ་དང་གཤམ་ི་ཡན་ལག་བན་པ་ག་བཅད་མས་ེ་་མ་ད་ི་བཀའ་ར་པ་གར་དབང་ོ་ ོ མཐའ་ཡས་ ས་ི བ ས་ི པ་འ་ད་མ་ཐར་ལ་ད་ས་དད་ས་དང་ན་པས་ས་དང་ན་་བག་ང་ཁ་བཏོན་ ས་ ས་ན་ཐང་ག་ན་མོ་ལས་་ད་གངས་པ་ཕན་ཡོན་མས་འཐོབ་པར་འར་རོ། །ད་གས་འལ།། །། This prayer was based on Minling Lotsāwa Dharma Śrī’s 72 text entitled Shingköma, ‘The Array of Pure Realms,’ the narration of the life and liberation of the Guru of Uḍḍiyāna. And, the meaning of The Sheldrakma, ‘The Crystal Cave Chronicles’,73 was perfectly preserved by Kunkhyen Lama Pema Ösel Donak Lingpa.74 Thus, this liturgy text carries the same blessing as the terma root text. Moreover, the three opening verses of homage and the concluding seven-branch offering were written by Pema Garwang Lodrö Thaye 75 in accordance with the excellent Guru’s words. If you have faith and devotion, and continuously recite this prayer aloud, you will receive the exact same benefits as from reading the extensive chronicles. May virtue increase!

These stupas remain as a landmark of the historical encounter between Guru Rinpoche and King Trisong Detsen. 50. ↑ Samyé Monastery is situated in Lhoka , Tibet, on the northern side of the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley. 51. ↑ It was at Mount Hepori , above Samyé Monastery, that Guru Rinpoche together with his disciples subjugated the negative forces that were impeding the initial construction of the monastery. 52. ↑ The caves of Samyé Chimphu represent Guru Rinpoche’s enlightened speech. Guru Rinpoche resided in the Chimphu caves, while Samyé monastery was being constructed, and spent long periods there in retreat. The caves are located at the head of the valley running parallel and to the northeast of the Samyé Valley, about 13 km from Samyé. 53. ↑ Tradruk in Yarlung is one of the border protection temples built by Songtsen Gampo. 54. ↑ The Seven Chosen Ones or Seven men to be tested (Tib. sad [mi] mi bdun) were the first seven monks in Tibet. They are: 1. Ba Trizik (Wyl. sba khri gzigs), 2. Ba Salnang, 3. Ba Trisher, 4. Pagor Vairotsana, 5. Ma Rinchen Chok, 6. Gyalwa Chokyang, and 7. Khön Lü'i Wangpo Sungwa. 55. ↑ Gyalmo Tsawarong is a district between Eastern Tibet and China. Not to be confused with the previously mentioned Tsawarong which lies in Nepal. 56. ↑ These five were: 1. Namkhé Nyingpo, 2. Epagsha of Drugu, 3. Vīra of Rugyong, 4. Langchen Palseng, and 5. Gyalwé Lodrö of Dretsün. 57. ↑ Lhodrak Karchu lies in Lhodrak County, just below Karchu, north of the Bhutanese border. It lies cradled at the convergence of two rivers, the Kuru-chu and Tamzhol-chu. 58. ↑ Sūtra and Tantra. 59. ↑ These three lotsāwas were: Kawa Paltseg of Kaba, Chogrolui Gyaltsen of Chogro, and Rinchen Chog of Ma. 60. ↑ Of king Indrabhūti. 52
