General Characteristics The various pump models belong to faur series, eaeh having a speeifie autside dio meter. Series are designated by the size af the statar thread: - API EUE thread for 2 3/8", 2 7/8" and 3 1/2" series, and - NU thread far 4" series. - CASING thread for 5" series.

Models are designated by two numbers ; an appraximation af the f1awrote in m3/ d at 500 rpm and zera head and the nominal head roting in m. For example, Pump model 300 TP 1800: . Flow rote: 300 m3/ d (1887 bfpd) at 500 rpm and zera head. - Head rating: 1800 m (5900 ft).
Characteristics of Pumps in the Same Serie ,I
Within the same series, there are sub-series in whieh the different models hove the same flow rote, but diflerent head rotings. This is the case, for example, of the following 3 1/2" sub-series:

Exeept for their lengths, these models hove identieal geometries and, therefore, the same f10w rote, but they hove diflerent numbers of stages . Models "b" and "e" are respectively equivalent to 2 and 3 elementary models "a" mounted in series. Their head rotings, proportional to their numbers of stages, are respeetively double and triple that of "a". Likewise, in a given serie there are models of same length, but with diflerent pitehes. The model with the longest piteh has the largest flow rote (proportional to the piteh), but the lowest head rating (number of stages inversely proportional to the pitch) if the length is the same, and vice-versa.

Performance charts Use of Performance charts The seal between cavities is never perfecto The differential pressure between consecutive cavities of a PCP produces a downward slippoge of the fluid. The higher the head the pump must overcome, the larger the slippage.

The table gives the flow rate at 500 rpm and zero head. To get the actual f10w rate of a pump in operatian, one must take into account the head, which generates slippage. The performance charts (one per pump modell take the head into account and indicate how the f10wrate varies as a function of both speed and head. They can be used also to evaluate the power required. Hereafter the chart for the 300 TP
1800. The vertical scales indicate the f10wrate in m3Id and bfpd. The horizontal scale indicates the speed in rpm.
The chart includes two sets of straight lines: al Parallellines, which indicate the relation of f10w rate vs. speed for various values of head. The zerohead line goes through point O (no slippage, f10w rate exactly proportional to speed). b) Dashed lines, which are used to estimate the power required at the drive shaft .

Example (see next pagel al Determination of speed as a function of f10w rate and head: - to lift 200 m3/d (1250 bfpdl against a head of 1500 m (5000 ft), the required speed is 365 rpm. - the graph shows that, for a given f10w rate, a higher head would require a higher speed (the slippage increases with the head). - likewise, it is c1ear that, al constant speed, the f10w rate increases when the head decreases. - the fact thal the lines are parallel demonstrates that the slippage is a function of head only and is independent of speed. b) Evaluation of the power required at the drive shaft:

Limitations of the Performance Charts
.
As 011pump performance charts, these charts assume the fluid is 100 % water. They can be used for c10se appraximatian for f1uids of low viscosity (high water cut and/or medium to high API gravity crude) provided the hydrostatic head be evaluated taking the crude density into account. On the other hand they should not be used, or else should be used with great care, in the following cases: al Presence of free gas at pump level (non-negligible GLR): the actualliquid that indicated by the chart.

bl Fluid of high viscosity: the pressure 1055in the tubing is no longer negligible and the viscous fluid drag on the rod string is no longer negligible either ; both effects require additional power, which is not accounted for in the chart.

In both cases aboye, the correct determination of f10w rote and power must be done using the PCM design progrom "Winpetro".
Hydraulic Efficiency Hydraulic Efficiency is, by definition, the rotio of the f10w rote at given speed and given head to the f10w rote at same speed and zero head. At zero head, there is no slippage. The f10w rote is the maximum for the given speed and equal to the displacement of the pump multiplied by the number of rotations. The efficiency is then, by definition, 100%. To soy that an efficience ;5 over 100% is meaningless: in actual conditions, there is always more or less slippage, and the efficience is always below 100%.

The efficiency of a pump depends on its speed and on the hydraulic head. The performance chart determines its rating. The slippage is independent increases with the speed.
