Flow
The open center hydraulic system will always deliver maximum flow meaning great losses in some cases The load sensing system only delivers the required flow for the actual load which means almost no losses

The load sensing hydraulic system

Losses
Load 1
Delta P (∆PLS)
Load 2 Max Qpump
Flow The pump will deliver the pressure demanded by the highest load (Load 1) and add a compensating pressure called Delta P (20-25 Bar) to maintain a constant pressure drop across the valve spool and to compensate for any pressure drop during delivery to e.g. the hydraulic cylinder Pump pressure = The pressure needed for the act ual load + Delta P (∆P LS) pressure
HYDRA UL ICS INTRODUCTION
The load sensing hydraulic system
Load Sensing system
VS
Open Center system
The pump in a load sensing system only deliver the flow requested by the function (variable pump)
The pump in a open center system always deliver full flow (fixed pump)
A load sensing (LS) system has a closed center in the main valve
A open center system has (as the name says) an open center in the main valve
The pump in a load sensing (LS) system maintains a low stand-by pressure (or delta P) when no function is used and don't deliver any flow (closed center)
The pump in an open center system circulates the oil through the valve (because of the open center) and back to tank when no function is used
In a load sensing system you control the speed (flow) for the function with the lever
In a open center system you control the pressure for the function with the lever
“OPEN CENTER”
VS.
Pump pressure regulated as a function of the load (valid for both)
“LOAD SENSING” Pump flow regulated as a function of the lever position
