Hi! I’m Tzu-Lee. Today is Sunday and I’m at home, listening to music. Last week I was on holiday on the beach! I had a great time. I swam in the sea and went out with friends. School starts tomorrow. People think that teenagers have a lot of free time, but it’s not true. We get a lot of homework. But this term I want to go to an after-school club and do drama or go riding. I think it’s important to do different things, not just study, study, study all the time. Teenagers have a hard life!
We have lots of free time and there are many activities for pensioners in our town. On Mondays we play chess. On Tuesdays we go dancing. On Thursdays we go swimming. On Fridays we do gymnastics! An unusual job 1 My name is Adam. I work as a living statue or street statue. It’s not an active job, but it’s a good way to earn money and watch the world at the same time. You must be patient, fit and strong. It’s not easy to stay still for hours and hours. I usually work for two hours in one place, then I go and find a new place. 2 In the photo I’m working in the street. I’m dressed as a typical Englishman. I’m standing on a platform.There’s a small box on the platform. People usually watch me for a few minutes and then put some money in the box. But some people are very irritating. They don’t give me any money.

Oliver Twist The two boys in the pictures are characters from Oliver Twist, one of Charles Dickens’ famous novels. Dickens writes about British society in the 19th century when many people were poor. The children in his novels are often orphans and work in factories in terrible conditions. They don’t go to school and have very hard lives. Oliver Twist is nine years old. He is very poor and he is wearing dirty old clothes. He is walking along a street in London and he is thinking about his mother. He is very sad because she is dead. Oliver feels lonely. Jack Dawkins is stealing money from a rich man’s pocket. The rich men are talking and they don’t see Jack. Jack is very good at stealing. He lives with other boys with a cruel old man, Fagin. Fagin teaches the boys to take valuable things from people’s pockets. He is a dishonest man. In the novel, Oliver meets Jack and goes to live with him and Fagin. Fagin teaches Oliver to steal.
