Tai Chi Hun Yuan Chuang By David Deich, January 2013 The Tai Chi Hun Yuan Chuang form comes from the Wudang Taoist Kung Fu Academy in the Wudang Mountains in Hubei province, China. I learned the movements from Sifu Shane Lear who learned the form during one of his many study trips to China. Sifu Lear’s instructor was Grand Master Zhong Yunlong, also known as Qinhui (his Taoist name). Grand Master Zhong Yunlong is the 14th disciple of Wudang Sanfeng sect of Mt. Wudang martial arts and in 2009 was the head priest at the Purple Heaven Temple. Tai Chi Hun Yuan Chuang is described by Master Zhong as a “longevity” form. The form is listed as part of the Chuang Gong (Standing Stake Work) in the first year curriculum at the Kung Fu Academy.
Grand Master Zhong says that Hun Yuan means combining yin and yang. Breaking down the two parts – parts – Hun Hun means mixed and Yuan means circle . The action of Hun Yuan - the Taiji – the the swirling balance of yin and yang that is visually repremixing circle , results in Taiji – sented in the Taiji symbol. This meaning presents the Tai Chi Hun Yuan Chuang as a form that is foundational in the development of energy and movement skills. The form is done at a slow steady pace, with relaxed and flowing movements. As the hands move to the various positions, they are aligned with the a cupuncture points on the body. Energy is also stimulated by the stepping and rocking of the feet. 1
