INTRODUCTION
Banks are playing vital role in the economic development of a country. A sound and effective banking system is the backbone of an economy. The emergence of private/new generation banks has been changed the entire banking operations drastically by the use of sophisticated new technologies like internet banking, ATMs (Automated Teller Machines), EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer), Debit cards, Credit cards, Mobile banking, etc., are accessible to customers on a 24x7 basis across the world. These modern technologies enable the bankers to overcome the barriers of time and space in extending their customer services. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This study will help in to understand the type of Debit card & plastic money system. Most Indian banks issue Visa debit cards, though some banks (like SBI and Citibank India) also issue Maestro cards. The debit card transactions are routed through Visa or MasterCard networks in India and overseas rather than directly via the issuing bank. Unlike credit and charge cards, payments using a debit card are immediately transferred from the cardholder's designated bank account, instead of them paying the money back at a later date. Debit cards usually also allow for instant withdrawal of cash, acting as the ATM card for withdrawing cash. The study finds the status of Use of Debit cards & plastic money in India. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The objective decides where we want to go, what we want to achieve and what is our goal or destination. The objective of “Debit card in INDIAN SCENERIO” is to – 1. 2. 3. 4.
To study socio-economic background of the sample debit cardholders. To study the pattern of usage of debit cards by the sample customers. To study the customer’s choices and preference in the usage of debit card. To study which type of debit card is most suitable for online transaction.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Survey Method & Online polling & Research has been followed for the study. Both primary and secondary sources of data are used. Well structured questionnaire is designed to elicit necessary data and details from the consumers of retail stores. The secondary data were collected from the books, journals, magazines and web portals. A proportionate random sampling method was employed to elicit the necessary information from the debit cardholders & there keen interest in the type of debit card.The primary data collected from the respondents has been analyzed with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Percentage analysis and Chi-square test has been employed for testing the hypothesis. HYPOTHESIS: There is no significant association between the personal factors i.e, age, education, occupation, monthly income and using of Debit Cards.
DATA COLLECTION METHOD: The data will be collected using both by primary data collection methods as well as secondary sources.
(i) PRIMARY DATA– Most of the information will be gathered through primary sources. The methods that will be used to collect primary data are books, research, newspapers, wave sites etc. Books: – A guide to ATM and Debit card industry by F Hayasai A study of Debit cards safety & research by A Kosse News Papers: – Business Standard, Jaipur Edition Economic Times, Jaipur Edition Magazines: – India Debit Report Series Induian Plastic Money Volume 40 Web Sites: – www.allahabadbank.com www.statebankofindia.com www.wikepidia.org (ii) SECONDARY DATA – Interviews, questioners, fill ups, different nationalized banks, borrowers, financial consultants etc. Secondary data of this project on Reverse Mortgage will be collected from – Interviews from different categories of target group. Questionnaires will be arranged to get the data. Fill ups Different nationalized banks Borrowers Financial consultants METHOD OF SAMPLING: The technique used for conducting the study was Convenience Sampling Technique as sample of respondents was chosen according to convenience & according to online participation. STASTICAL TOOLS: The tools used in this study were MS-EXCEL, MS-WORD. MS-EXCEL was used to prepare pie- charts and graphs. MS-WORD was used to prepare or write the whole project report. REPORT WRITING AND PRESENTATION: Report Encompasses – Charts, diagrams METHOD USE TO CLASSIFY DATA: Data Analysis & Interpretation – Classification & tabulation transforms the raw data collected through questionnaire in to useful information by organizing and compiling the bits of data contained in each questionnaire i.e., observation and responses are converted in to understandable and orderly statistics are used to organize and analyze the data of Debit card research: ¨

CONCLUSION:
RBI recently analyse the trend of use of Study of Debit cards that Number of Debit Cards in India: 40,90,34,442 . Total Debit Card transactions at Point of Sale Outlets: 5,95,62,768 & approximate a 7:3 ratio for Offline: Online payments based on the transaction trend that I have seen. So, total debit online payments come upto approximately 41,69,39,377. So, the number of transactions done annually online using debit cards is about 0.98. Payments using Credit Cards is 30 times Debit card payments (value wise) and about 18 times (frequency of transaction wise) Stats from RBI website. Further the use of debit card depends upon the type of acrd used in the transcation & some debit cards like Rupay card have some limitations.Thus this study further depicts which type of debit card whether Visa, Mastercard, Rupay., used specially for the particular purpose & Indian customers choice over these cards.
