Wow Issue number 13. This should be a Birthday Issue. Happy 1st Birthday to Snake Eyes. First off the bat, is we have a Reader’s Survey included in this issue. Please take the time to have a read and tell us what you think, and what you would like to see. There is an excellent prize for the GGG member who returns to us a completed survey and gets drawn from the entries. See page 9 for the prize, and big thanks to Warlord Games for sponsoring the survey. Dog County Range Wars has interestingly gone into defensive mode, with players pulling back from their first stings and creating the new front lines of what is turning into a Range War. Some players have made boasts on who is going down...next turn will see, or follow the action by watching the Dogtown group . The Necromunda Campaign, see page 11, is something we have never tried before so it will be great to see how it goes . It is almost like supporting your favourite team without the sports bet. Necromunda has been out so long, that figures are expensive to source. The other problem is getting gamers
Nothing beats playing a game but when you can’t or you don’t have the figures or rules...This will be the game you’re playing when your not playing a game...ok too young to remember the Clayton’s advert? With only 25 spots open get in quick to play. We are hoping to have a tournament calendar up soon. There are so many different gaming tournaments happening all over the place. We would like to keep you up to date on the ones we get info about, so if you are running a tournament please send us details so we can give you or your club some promoting. The 1850 point 40k Gauntlet is being run again at the Pink Hotel at Pinkenba, Brisbane on November 15 and 16. There are still some spots up for grabs. Contact Rod Franze at https:// www.facebook.com/ thegauntletau Kris McKiernan has done an excellent submission for Snake Eyes and we look forward to his future inclusions. Glory, included in this issue. We have had a few games of this over the month, but with miniatures still getting painted we won’t have any photos of the action yet. That being said there are actually three sets of rules with the above title. The original one by Anthony Reynolds, and 2 fan based ones. All are available on the net, but we have included one of the fan based publications, and will have part 2 next issue. The rule sets are all about creating your own Chaos Warband using excerpts from the Warhammer rules, and going around the wastes and smashing other warbands in the hope of some favour for your efforts from your choice of chaos deity. Enjoy... Send your submissions in to: Garagegamersgroup@ gmail.com and put Editor in the subject line. SEE YOU THERE

WINGS OF GLORY
Wings of Glory is the successor to the extremely successful line of Wings of War World War I and World War II cards and miniatures game which has been available since 2004. While the game started as a card game where each card represented one airplane, anti-aircraft gun or balloon, it has evolved in to a noncollectable, nonrandomly packaged, air war game where players could purchase a starter set and then purchase “booster” packs with individual airplanes or even large models of observation balloon and bombers. Ares Games new Wings of Glory air plane packs integrate with their tactical airplane combat system makes for a wonderful gaming experience. Their new 1:144 scale World War I airplane miniatures and 1:200 scale World War II airplanes have hit the airfields and are ready for action.
REVIEWS ON THE RUN DEAD MAN’S HAND… Last month I finally got around to buying a set of rules for Dead Man’s Hand. I love the western genre, and just so I didn’t go without, I also purchased two gangs. These were Banditos and Indians. Having a good sized collection of 28mm western miniatures already, I thought that having more Mexican and Indian figures wouldn’t do me wrong. Previously I have bought Old Glory, Artizan, Reaper, Dixon, and Foundry western miniatures. Old Glory were a bit smaller being more 25mm figures but all were nice enough moulds, with the expected amount of flash. After opening the boxes of DMH miniatures, I have to say that I was quite disappointed. With seven miniatures per box, which is an old video case size box, they are packed in a little bag of bubble wrap. Loose, in the bubble wrap. Every miniature that had a protruding item, (usually the pistol or rifle), was bent, probably from hitting up against each other in the bag. Little separate baggies would have prevented this. Also, the amount of flash on these models are ridiculous. More than the usual with metal models, and more work for the player, to base and prep for painting. I don’t expect out of the box and play immediately with these, but they are so far at the other end of the scale from other miniatures available to

purchase now, I have to say that the first thought into my head was one of buyers remorse. On the plus side there is quite a bit of detail on the miniatures. All have been sculpted with attention to detail when it comes to vests, kerchiefs and gun belts and the like, so there is a nice variety there.. The rules are easy enough to work through, and the little pack of cards adds another random element, with bonus actions that your gang can do. They also create the initiative order in which your moves can be made.
WINGS OF GLORY Last month also saw some action for Wings of Glory. I had purchased the starter pack for around $30 which included the Rules, 2 biplanes (The Red Baron and his nemesis), and the cards required to play. When I first read the rules I was a little daunted, but pacing the game out page by page showed an easy and quick combat system. The bases of the model stands are clear, allowing the placing of cards under them which show your intended move. There are three moves each per turn and you have to plan the three ahead, placing your cards facedown, and turning each over with your opponent, one for one. Very similar to Star Wars X-Wing with no dice for the firing, which is the only thing this game needs to provide that decisive but random element. I enjoyed it enough to purchase another two planes and a playing mat, giving either four players or two players controlling 2 planes each, a more immersive experience.

Game Design...dice, cards and counters... Game design takes many hours of pros and cons, play testing and getting others opinions but don’t get too bogged down over details , because it is also fun, and that’s the last thing you want to lose. I know of one guy who spent many months writing notes and talking about creating the perfect game, and along the way lost the motivation in the details. Ergo, the game goes nowhere. If I asked him today how is the game going he would probably tell me, I’m still working on it. Play test your rules as you go. Don’t wait to have it perfect. All
it needs, is fine tuning as you go. I would suggest that when play testing you include some seasoned gamers who may suggest some elements of play that you might have missed, and of course, as you play you will be able to add elements and delete the ones that don’t work as smoothly. Don’t be afraid to play similar themed games to yours, that might be out there, to garner experience in the genre, and to ensure that your new game isn’t too much like ‘their’ game. You can use things in those games
from other manufacturers that you enjoy, but be aware of breaching any copy write laws. A lot of games out now are not new ideas but recreations of the better rule sets being bought together. So to summarise, and I know I’ve only covered the basics of these, pick a theme, decide what the end goal is of your game, work out the rules, play test the game, create a framework, work out your random element, (Dice, cards or counters), and if it’s good enough, put it on Kickstarter to fund your creation.
The companies that produce figures today, seem to need to have their own rule systems
many gaming systems out there...all you have to do is find one that suits you”
From the Collector’s Vault It is hard sometimes to decide upon what you want to collect when building armies for the games we play. Today, historical games are the last bastions of true diversity. After all an ancient Egyptian warrior will not change to something they were not recognised as being. Thus, many manufacturers will produce figures for this period, the competition for this market is such that prices remain low (ish), when compared to companies that produce figures solely for the use of their game systems.
“There are
miniatures, and other products that go with it. Thankfully historical games have not gone down that path. For instance people playing Black Powder, don’t have to buy “x” manufacturers figures to play their game system. Yet some companies demand that (where they run or sponsor) tournaments or events that you can only play using their brand of miniatures. Certainly some of the more esoteric systems like Relic Knights won’t find many companies that produce figures in competition.
the pan. They have an initial splash that gets much interest, but then it peters out, leaving many with figures that have no other use. This is where some collectors can then step in and pick up figures and such for much lower, (generally speaking) prices. The only downside is that your range of opponents to play a discontinued game system is small or nonexistent. It defies logic that many manufacturers prefer to change scale rather than making their product suitable to other perhaps more popular game systems.
I have found that many systems tend to be a flash in

Customer Wars, and yes war it is, have no doubt about that. The players are many and varied but all chasing the sales. Once there was few large kingdoms that could do what they liked and we had so little choice. Then, as in all wars the people rebelled when a choice came along. Yes the empire managed to crush some resistance but in the end if you don’t listen and look after your followers then your doom is written and when, is the only question? I have seen this happen many times in my gaming life, and even now see forces moving around. So what is this to you? Well good prices, product and service. You may be getting it now which is good but more options come, with new players. Kick starter is giving people huge chances to launch idea’s and we see so many great things coming. From what I have found in the past people won’t say a lot, but vote by going to the place that has what they want, or that looks after them. Talk is just that, and action counts for me. To give you an example I purchase some wargaming magazines. My local news agents had them and all was good. Then suddenly things got bad and issues took months to get, and I would be behind 2 to 4 issues. I would ask but always the talk and no action! Then came the straw that broke the camels back, when a issue I was chasing was found at 3 shops over a month while my supplier gave me excuses. I now have settled again with a steady supply but wondered why 3 different places could get what I couldn’t get at my local supplier? Why they didn’t want my $100 or so of business. So as this war goes on and conflict will arise, please remember the ones who care about you. The one that gives you price or product or service. Maybe all three even if your lucky and please remember to tell the owner, what a good job they are doing. Tell your friends about this place as we want them to be here for a long time. Time for me to wrap this up as I have a parcel in the post so until next time, Glen

Roleplaying in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium
By GGG member Kris McKiernan
Sister Kranky Expected to have the gene seed of the emperor himself, Sister has faced many events throughout her life, which would break the strongest of warriors. Trained as a sister of battle she has worked her way up to become an enigmatic figure before realizing her true destiny as a perpetual. She commands our acolytes on behalf of the Ordos Chronos.
Colonel Brawn Brawn is a respected elder and shaman to the dusk worlders making him the perfect choice for command of the BK company. He is loyal to a fault and would follow sister through the gates of hell itself…. And probably has on more than one occasion.
Lt Colonel Karno Karno is a connoisseur! Quite simply… if its big, and it kills things, then make sure its securely bolted to the floor or its likely not to be there come morning….
Lead us not into heresy, but deliver us from the impure…
BK Company From their wild beginnings on dusk world they have had years of indoctrination instilled in them from the fallen ‘sky god’. As Sisters personal guard Brawn & Karno have jumped back and forth through time. And consequently, so has their gene seed. Realizing her error in allowing this, sister has retraced her steps and collected what is now now known as the BK company; an extremely pliant, yet brutal contingent of Dusk worlders that have become her very own time police.

A day in the life of the Ordos Chronos….
At our last session our intrepid adventurers have decided to make the journey to the Koronus expanse to obtain a rare artifact requested by the Black Crystal Cartel. On reaching their destination they find a world devoid of life signs. Locating the ruins of a temple the BK company head to the surface hot and fast. Once entrenched the captain directs a temporary comms base to be set up, and sets off down a wellconstructed tunnel leading directly into the bowels of the planet. A short hike of 10km later they arrive at a large blast door. The door opens easily to reveal…. NECRONS! Thousands and thousands of Necrons! That is why there are no other life signs! Sensors are indicating their objective is another 1.5 km inside the Necron base. They manage to proceed unnoticed for the first 750m or so, but then the sentinels awake and everything starts to go wrong… They can see what appears to be their objective ahead, a large green glowing crystal mounted above a control panel. The quickest party members take off fast while the remainder of the company sets up a defensive position. Necrons are now materializing and others starting to wake from stasis. They reef the crystal from its mounting and a quick thinking Tristan drops a grenade down the attached power conduit. They turn to flee when the captain notices a foot behind the console… a quick investigation reveals a body, a sword, and a data slate that are all scooped up on the fly. The following explosion is incredible and seems to have back fed through the entire Necron power conduit system, sending sheets of electricity arcing out all around. The party beats a hasty retreat, blowing apart Necrons with every step. Things look grim however when Karno fires off a vortex grenade which implodes and begins to go nova and expand rapidly. Vehicular backup arrives and everyone piles in. They make it back and evacuate to the ship just as a Necron crescent detaches from the planet. Not sticking around, the crew immediately warp jump. Mission Successful…..

Necromunda Campaign - SpireLord with GGG member Darian Chase In keeping with interactive style gaming, (see Dog County Range Wars), GGG will be running an interactive Necromunda campaign. You won’t need to own a Necromunda Gang, but instead will select one and send advice for the upgrades as the gang has each fight. You can only control one gang, but will have choices of many to pick from. Each month in SnakeEyes, we will devote a section to the gang results and you will see where your gang is on the ladder. Gangs will be started with the usual 1000 cred starting bonus and then from there their advancement is all up to you. Three people could start, owning the same gang, but each gang would develop differently as it grows.
The starting gangs will be capped at 25 so if you want some of the action get in early. Your input will be the naming and advancing, hiring new guns for your gang. Pictures of the top 5 gangs will be posted and your name with them.
Initially available will be the 6 houses; Goliath, Delaque, Esher, Cawdor, Orlock, and Van Saar, and the Outlaw gangs; Skavvy, Redemptionists, Spyrers, Pit Slaves, Cultists and Enforcers.
To play in this Necromunda Campaign just register your interest in an email to
[email protected] and let us know what gang you would be interested in. The top five gangs will be flouted in Snake Eyes each month, but all players will know how their gang is doing , with an email each month.

John McDonnell’s Napoleonic's… GGG member John McDonnell, runs his own blog site called Hammer & Banner which has over 3600 views. He is a veteran gamer with many years in gaming...
Finally a win - well he did concede the battlefield! Not often I get to brag about a "win" in my games of Napoleonic's. This time I ditched the lancers from my list and upgraded as many of the troops to trained regulars, with skirmishers in all units that could have them. I decided not to take photos for the game as I wasn't feeling particularly confident. Certainly my deployment was cramped with one flank almost cramped with terrain. My dice rolls were as usual, crap, but it was at least consistent crap. The photos below show the final turn of play. Usually my troops never make it across the table, never break enemy units, or get breakthroughs. So Andrew conceded the game, I said a win for me, he said "I conceded the field of battle, not the battle itself" - or words to that effect. Never the less it was nice to have something go my way, if only for one game. See next page for the army list.
My right flank. Bogged down by units blocking movement. My Landwehr again did very little.
My second last bound. Dragoons ready to charge. French artillery chased off. Prussians advancing. Though the square was left there just for the French dragoons.
Lots of unusual things happened. One battalion followed a routing unit and moved into contact with the French dragoons. My lads actually caused causalities on the fleeing troops and the cavalry, chasing them off.

The first turn of Dog County Range Wars saw several battles break out on the map as players expanded their lands to increase their income. Marty O’Doney of the O’Doney Hacienda faced battles on two fronts. Big Frank and the Bar C, Captain Augustus McCrae of the Hat Creek Cattle Company, T.S. Baramblecoat of Deadwood Ranch, Bugman’s Ranch, Reo Krey of the GGG Pastoral Company, Diamond Back Pete of The Old Stump, all claimed to have seen some action, vowing payback and revenge on the other Ranchers. By turn 2, everyone knew about the shooting, and with the exception of a couple of the Ranches, most turned inwards to their defences, and waited for the fight to come to them. Big Frank watched the chuck wagons head off over the horizon. The dust they kicked up and the setting sun tinged the sky an ominous blood red. "We need water and we need it bad!" He'd told the boys before they'd headed off. Frank had worked the land hard since he'd set up the ranch house, maybe too hard. What had once been fertile grazing land had started to dry up having to carry the weight of too many cattle. Frank had sold off his first batch of steers and sunk his earnings into 2 chuck wagons and sent most of his boys off with them looking for a permanent source of water. "Any water you find is ours and don't go lettin’ any no good varmint you come across think otherwise," had been his final orders. Turning back to the bunkhouse he spotted a malingering shadow under the eves, "Pepe you'd better have cooked up something better than your goddamn awful chilli. We've got a power of work to do tomorrow."
It was all that Reo Krey of the GGG could do to not avenge his fallen ranch hand. More importantly were the lives of the others, as he set up a solid defence on the banks of the Clearwater River. Over at the B-B-Q it was a different story, as Bob ’Tonic’ Brown, whipped his men into a frenzy with one of his inspired speeches. It was a big jump from the broken man in the gutter of Dogtown all those months ago...no longer a victim to his own tonics, Bob rallied his men for war. At the MacCaroney Ranch, Boss Tony had word about his neighbour to the north, practically invading the lands of his original allotment, and made moves to stop this threat, once and for all. The O’Doney Hacienda wasn’t letting anything or anyone stand in their way, when it came to expansion. Having lost 2 ranch hands, Marty O’Doney laid the blame squarely at the feet of Bob Brown. Somehow...it was all his fault and now there’s gonna be a reckonin’.
At Tumbleweeds, things had slowed but not stopped. Unsure of which way his closest neighbour was going to head, Barnaby Simmons moved his men into position, reminding them that the orders were shoot first, ask questions later. To hell with being friendly anymore...

Opportunities for business investment will be tendered later this year or early next, allowing prospective business men and women to invest in individual business’s in Dogtown to keep the business’s open and make more money for the investors. The Mayor and other townsfolk believe that allowing investment in the town will create more business creation. Lucas Shelman agrees with the local council however stated that his hotel would not be up for investment. That of course doesn’t stop healthy competition from happening in our streets. Dennet Tull, owner of several Riverboats, said that Dogtown was in the perfect position to boom, between new settlers and the river trade, things would be on the up and up.
Marty O'Doney had not been as lucky as some in the ballot for lands. His initial allocation was well away from the rivers and their life-giving flow of water. He, his wife and the rest of the team knew this place was going to be hard to make into a viable proposition. However, they all knew that if this didn't work out then the family's western adventure would be over and they would have to move back east. O'Doney was proud of his cowboys. While some were new, most of them had been loyal and hardworking men in O'Doney's employment for a long-time now. Back before Dogtown's demise, they successfully ran the several businesses that O'Doney's owned - from the livery and blacksmith on the main street to the market garden on the edge of town. Dogtown was their home and they had all worked hard to make the Dogtown a prosperous "oasis" in the middle of these vast western plains. Then the disaster! ... and now the second chance. On arrival at their allocated land they set about building a small ranch building for O'Doney and his family as well a bunkhouse for the boys. Then, after some meticulous planning and organisation, O'Doney sent his boys out earlier this month. They were searching for richer grazing lands for the cattle. One group took their chuck-wagon and some cattle roughly north looking for a better source of water than their brackish well at the ranch could provide. There had been a rumour that there was a creek in that direction somewhere. Another group took their cattle and chuck-wagon in a southerly direction looking for some lush grazing land that several of the cowboys had seen when originally making their way to the ranch. Now O'Doney had to wait. Did his cowboys find what they set out to find? Did they run into trouble with other ranchers? Did that infernal Bob "Tonic" Brown send some men to disrupt him? All these things had been preying on his mind for weeks. Hopefully the news will be good, but as always, he was prepared for the worst. SNAKE

The top three Ranches from last month had MacCoroney Ranch, the Lucky O and the DoubleHorn in the lead. According to local sources, the best money can be made on river blocks, producing fatter cattle and better rices when it comes to sale time. Town bank clerk Johnny Brotton put his 2 cents in, stating that those Ranches not in or near good river lands need to either get near them, or create a huge spread to make a similar income. Not withstanding natural disasters, Ranchers can see what lands are making them good income, and the ones that don’t. I wouldn’t waste my men looking after low income lands when they could be out there finding high income lands. Don’t forget those mines.

Fears of the annual buffalo migration has Ranchers concerned for their lands. Before the Ranches were allocated, mighty herds of these majestic animals would make their way through the plains in Dog County. The Indians took what they wanted and hunters would always bag a few, but they will trample and eat their way threw good lands, leaving only arid and sometimes unus-
able land behind them, at least until the snows melt and refresh the land. Can the Ranchers wait that long? GENERAL STORE Snowshoes Blankets Furs Winter goods are in
Steam Boat coming to Dogtown. Lucas Shelman, local publican, made good on his word to build a Steamboat stop right here in Dogtown. With a scheduled stop Ranchers will soon be able to come straight to Dogtown via the river. According to the Mayor, only five Ranch Hands from each spread will be able to travel on the RiverBoat, to save any issues between feuding neighbours.

The Dog County Range Wars players map, turn 2, allows players in the campaign to gauge their expansion in the new territory as well as have a guess where their opponents might be. The colour coding shows where the real money is, in terms of land and income. Lush Lands that are worked, (that is to say that a Ranch Hand is holding that land at the end of the turn), is worth $100 income to that Ranch. Abundant Lands are worth $75, Grazing Lands are worth $50 and Arid Lands will produce $25 per month if worked. This information will allow players to plan their next expansion to create the most profit, and to defend the more expensive property, avoiding the cheaper lands. The black squares around the map represent Trading Posts, and the big one in the centre is where Dogtown is. The Red Stars are the Ranches. The trees represent timbered hexes which when harvested will become grazing lands. Brown colours are mountain ranges which like the rivers and trading posts, can be named as the players discover them. Silver can be found in the mountains, but it’s risky. You might lose that ranch hand. Red skull and bones show land clashes last turn where battles have occurred. Players can now just send what numbered hex that their Ranch Hands will be going to and through. Go to Dogtown group on Facebook for the current map and more details.

Off The Palette with GGG member Steven Azzopardi Found this chart whilst online, and I think it’s an excellent idea. You will never run out of a discontinued colour again or lose that shade you were looking for in an older set of paints, and you might be able to create these stunning works of art shown below…(Harlequin Craftworld? - Ed)

Eyes Around The World by GGG member Glen Taylor We tried to get these shots in last issue of Snake Eyes...you know the one with Space Hulk on the cover. Anyway these pages show the dedication of a guy called Chris Wetzel, who loves Space Hulk so much that he was inspired to build a set of gaming tables as shown in the photos. They showcase three different set ups by Chris, and multiple pieces of terrain, with some purchased and others having been scratch built. You can see Forge World purchases, detailed decking which you can purchase from Hirstarts, and a use of many different details have made a game table that’s itching to be played on...Thanks for the inspiration, Chris.

Great use of the leopard print pattern here to create a unique, off the board area, within the playing area. Could be used as of board miniatures or for rolling dice or even a cargo hold within the hulk...

GGG has started running an older game created by Anthony Reynolds of GW, namely as the title suggest, Path to Glory. The game is a simple skirmish style of play with Chaos warbands fighting each other to gain the attentions of the chaos gods, in the hope of blessings to increase their might, and add to their followers. There are three online versions available for you to play. With photos to come in future issues, we wanted all members to have the option of joining in on the action. We have included a fan expansion of the original rules, for you to enjoy...and due to issue size limitations, you will have half this month, and the second half in time for Christmas.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - SEAN O’HANLON I have been gaming since 1992 when a friend of mine, a bit of a Ferret (His nickname), introduced me to Warhammer 40k back in 2nd edition. As no one else in our group had chosen them, I was selected to try out Tyranids, and the nicknamed title of ‘Bugboy’ began. At the time we were year 8 students with little money, but much interest. Several of our first games consisted of graph paper (2mmx2mm squares) and no models, with my big creatures and Dreadnought represented by a 2x2 square, Tanks as 3x2, bikes by a 2x1 square and most others as a single square. The second game I was introduced to was “Magic the Gathering”, which at the time was just releasing 4th edition. Ferret also introduced me to a group known as the “Warhounds”, and for my first non-Brisbane competition, and in an attempt to try out other players, I travelled to Toowoomba for a competition. Four of five of my opponents were Brisbane Warhound members… Bob Hook and Chris Taylor, (now GGG members-Ed) made examples of me, but I still recall with nostalgia the Dark Eldar opponent (the only non Warhounds member) whom I took out by turn 3 with the exception of his skimmers. I haven’t been able to do that in a long while... As part of work I have travelled to the Middle East, where I didn’t find any gaming groups, to places were I found what I was looking for; Orange - Orange Modelling & Wargaming Society, Cowra Cowra Gaming Club, and Bathurst - B.R.A.W.L., all in New South Wales, the Garrison Group in Adelaide, South Australia, and the Ringwood Gaming Club in Melbourne, Victoria, and not forgetting the Blind Pig Games Club in Brisbane. All of them were great groups of people promoting that which they and I enjoy, gaming. While in Perth, Western Australia I found an active gaming group, but as I didn’t stay in Perth long, I didn’t manage to make any connections. In my time I have collected somewhere over 16,000 points of Tyranids, plus a couple of bio titans, about 4000 of Ultramarines in 40k plus a dwarf and a chaos Warrior armies for Warhammer. I have also travelled to Nottingham, England to see the Games Workshop head Office and picked up a Dwarven Blood bowl team with a model of Bugman that I am planning to use as coach (some day I am going to have to assemble them), I have a small Necromunda gang and using models from Hero Quest box sets played Mordheim, with a Vampire Crew. Mostly I still play 40k, and enjoy the occasional big game (Apocolypse), but I enjoy the smaller campaign games like Blood bowl, Necromunda, Mordheim and of course Dogtown. I also played in the soon to finish campaign of WFRP. Until we meet again, may all your games be enjoyable ;-)
