Comments:

Heart points in Tung’s system treat the knee. Pain of the inside knee area, usually comes from bone spurs or a degenerative process. 2, 4 Dr. Young teaches the concept of using bone to treat bone, which is true in this case. Use the needling technique as close to the bone as possible, making contact with the shaft not the point, of the needle. This point utilizes the communication between Hand and Foot Tai Yang. Notes yet to be integrated: *groin pn –strong stimulation, then move patient’s leg (for them), rocking back and forth, then internal/external rotation of the hip socket. Support leg securely with one hand under the knee and the other under arch of foot, as patient’s fear adduction when leg is in external rotation.

*knee pn. - Heart pts. in Tung’s system also treat the knee. Pain of medial knee area usually comes from bone spurs or degenerative knee. If spurs get worse, disperse with 4 Flower Upper and Middle. H Gate is terrific for knee pain, guide w/LV2 –fire nature, LV controls tendons or Huo Ju –1” proximal to LV3, or both to pull chi directly into the knee. Hou Ju has earth nature, a long bone = water, wood meridian = wind, :.wood, cold and damp. ST43 for front, GBpt for lateral knee If both knees in pain, needle both H Gates and both LV2, stimulate Needles for one side at a time or male left, female right. *tail bone and sacral pain ***, use both sides, also Huo Wei + Jen Wei before and after GV20, but H Gate is better. Fall on stairs. Bone treats bone, Hand and Foot Tai Yang communicating, Uppermiddle-lower, this is lower. Myocarditis –especially w/young people, SOB, may have caught cold some time ago, injured heart muscle, may not know, thinks just tired. Zhi Gan Cao + Shen Mai San “Generate Pulse.” SOB w/10 steps –Shen Fu Gu Li Tong (Dong shen, Fu Zi, Long Gu, Mu Li) + Shen Mai San (Ren Shen, Mai Men Dong, Wu Wei Zi), treats yin and yang, tonifies yin. Can substitute Dang Shen for Ren Shen but use three times the amount. Very good for SOB, especially w/high altitude, avoid sickness. People at higher altitude eat mostly meat, can’t get vegetables, use San Ren Tang (for 3 Jiao Damp) Xing Ren = upper, Kou Ren = middle, Yi Yi Ren = lower. Huo Xiang tonifies middle. Heart Gate, PC6, ST36, LV2 & 3, bleed apex and Four Flower.

Right side needling, for women only. Sensitive point, use strong stimulation for 8-10 seconds with a thin needle, then retain. Slide down lateral phalange to increase kidney function.

Combination: Fallopian Tube Blocked – 11.06 Return to Nest, 11.24 Gynecological, 4 66.02 Wood Wife Nourish Yin and Liver Fire – 66.02 Wood Wife, 77.17 Tian Huang or 77.18 Shen Guan, 77.21 Ren Huang 3 Comments:

Women have a tendency to anger, worry, and frustration. These negative Emotions generate liver fire which then inflames the heart. For middle-aged women, one should mostly treat the liver. A useful combination is to use 66.02 Mu Fu with the Two Emperors, 77.17 Tian Huang or 77.18 Shen Guan and 77.21 Ren Huang. These two additional points enrich kidney yin in order to soften the liver, nourish water and control fire. 3 If the Fallopian tube blocked, the qi is blocked. This point affects the Yangming channels which have more qi and more blood. This point adjusts the qi and blood. 4 66.02 Wood Wife functions similarly to ST44 (inner courtyard or plaza, implies uterus) by clearing damp heat and calming spirit. 4

Location: Found at the base of the thumb on the palmar surface of the hand. Insert the needle just anterior and inferior to the large knuckle at the junction of the first metacarpal bone and the thumb, threading the needle superficially across the thenar eminence angled toward PC7 Da Ling.

Needle Technique:

Depth: Needle insertion at least 2.0 cun. Needle transversely under skin toward PC7.

Comments :

Any kind of ankle pain – A05 Small Joint, one may add 11.27 Five Tiger #4. If caused by bone spur will need more treatment, otherwise two treatments. For acute twisted ankle with severe swelling, bleeding the local area is additionally appropriate.

Comments:

Sancha III is located at the joint base between the fourth and fifth phalanges, on the dorsum of the hand. Its location is identical to TW2, but it is needled toward H8 in the palm, or toward TW3. Insertion is 1.5-2”. Deep needling treats tendons and bone. Sancha III is the most commonly used of the three Sancha points, and can be used for disorders both above and below the waist. Since the fingers correspond to the head, this point will treat any disease of the Five Senses (nose, tooth, eye, ear, throat). Because Sancha III connects with GB32 it treats low back pain.

Sancha III is a primary point for the immune system. Located close to the Small Intestine channel, it communicates with the Spleen via the Hand Taiyang –Leg Taiyin connection. Sancha III tonifies the Spleen and the immune system by invigorating Spleen Qi. It is excellent for treating early stage common cold, wind heat or wind chill. For a common cold with headache, add 22.04 Da Bai; for sore throat, add Lu10. This point energizes the body, so is very good for fatigue. Because Hand Shaoyang (Triple Warmer) connects with Leg Shaoyin (Kidney), Sancha III is a powerful point for Kidney-related issues, including vital energy, hormones, bone, tinnitus, exhaustion, and low back pain. The Triple Warmer channel also relates to all three jiao and to water metabolism. Because of its connection with the Spleen, it treats muscle weakness, and when used in conjunction with St43, also treats drooping eyelids. As the Ying-Spring point, Sancha III is used for fire disease and change of color. It treats itching skin or rashes because it disperses wind. For acute uticaria, we can use Sancha III because it is connected with H8, and itching, boils and pain all come from the Heart. This point is also useful for palpitations with a fast pulse. (For a slow pulse, use Pc6, LV2 and LV3, or Sancha II.) Sancha III can also be used as a guide for frozen shoulder due to its link with the Triple Warmer channel. For shoulder pain, needle Sancha III on the same side.

Location: Find the classic location of LI3 under the distal head of the second metacarpal bone. From there move to the depression above the tendon, directly adjacent to the bone. Use a curving needle technique underneath the first and second metacarpals towards PC8 Lao Gong.

*22.05 Ling Gu connects with Kidney (when needling touch the bone) in lower jiao area of hand; very effective for heel pain. *Large Intestine/Liver connection treats urinary disorders, dizziness, groin pain, knee pain and shoulder pain. 22.05 Ling Gu with 22.04 Da Bai relates to water (Kidney) and metal (Lung), together they tonify Kidney & Lung. 22.05 Ling Gu and 22.04 Da Bai, (water and gold connection), represent the relationship of the Lung qi descending and Kidney qi receiving. If panting occurs, the Lung qi is not descending. If sighing occurs, the Kidney qi is not receiving correctly. Harmonize water and metal to complete breathing. Tonify qi to breath well. Best combination for nourishing the yang and tonifying the qi. Very powerful for qi deficiency anywhere - tired after little work, chronic cough, frequent urination due to yang deficiency. 22.04 Da Bai is near LI3 and relates to wood. 22.05 Ling Gu is proximal to LI4 and relates to fire and wood, therefore; related to the blood making the qi. 22.05 Ling Gu tonifies Stomach qi for insufficient digestion. 22.05 strengthens the effect of scalp acupuncture, as it increases the circulation of qi and bld to the head. Class notes, not completely integrated: 22.05 Ling Gu –Spirit Bone, Miracle Bone. *Muscle atrophy, use Yang Ming channel, b/c more chi and more blood, LG is near the lung channel, b/w LU9 Yuan Source pt and LI4 *Hemiplegia -- Da Bai is close to C03—relates to wood, Ling Gu behind C04, so relates to fire, lung and chi. Fire and wood = bld, so chi and bld related. For legs difficult to lift up, inguinal pain (better than H Gate). For hemiplegia or paralysis, wood and fire are the primary focus so use Mu Huo pts, then use LG & DB--#1 for stroke, can add GB31,32 and/or scalp pts before and after GV20, but always LG & DB, then 3 Empire to tonify K & Lv. If tx w/in 1 yr., 6 mos. better, if less than 60 st nd yrs old = 100% recovery, if not recovered 1 stroke (left side), 2 stroke (right side) = very difficult, will need herbs. *stagnation causing back and leg pn., Bell’s Palsy, bone swelling and

spurs, irregular period or amenorrhea. (heart) *LG & DB, either side of C04, so source pt related *Lv3 & C04—main source pts., source pts. are strongest chi pts. *LG & DB #1 combo for sciatica ( GB, UB, ST). Fingers correspond to genitals and hips. UB merid = 70-80% of cases, 20-30% are GB merid, occass Tai Yin (front of thigh), these treat all of them, covers large area. Often UB thigh w/ GB calf, or vis versa. Usually L3- 4 = front, L4-5 = side. L5 is mostly UB, if 2 vertebrae will be UB & GB. *for lower back pain or sciatica due to lung weakness, Colon!Lung, Lung!Colon. Worse with exercise or movement. Use SI3,Co3.5, 4.5 + Bi I (1010.22) opp.side w/ UB65 same side for Tai Yang sciatica, or GB41 same side for Shao Yang sciatica w/ SI3,4, TW3,5 opp. side. Bleed UB40 every other treatment. If both, UB65 and GB41 together, These are both guiding points and treating points simultaneously, w/ LG/DB. *uniquely good for front of the thigh muscle pn. or sciatica *for tennis elbow (lateral pain) use Ling Gu same side w/ Co10 + Co11 opposite side. Da Bai might be better than LG, because closer to Shu pt. *for heel pain, use Ling Gu + Five Tiger 5 –opp. side, UB65 same side LG connects w/Kidney (touch the bone), in lower jiao area of hand .: heel pn. *migraine HA *dizzy and HA *dysmenorrhea *colon pain, or low abdominal bloating (K def.) *anal prolapse *back and spine pain *frequent urine b/c tonifies the kidneys So, LG/DB has wood/fire function, warms the yang, can regulate the whole body, fire function, metal channel, tonifies Kidney. Can regulate metal/water and wood/fire, metal/water is heavy, so yin nourishes yin, wood/fire is yang, wood fire rising. Dry earth = yang, damp earth = yin, so these 2 pts. can regulate everything.
