This was formed formed in 2004 2004 as the Mediterranean LNG Transport Corp (MLTC) by the Algerian Algerian national national oil oil company company Sonatrach, Sonatrach, its subsidiary subsid iary shipping shipping arm Hyproc, Hyproc, and Japanes Japanesee shipowners Mitsui OSK and Itochu Corp, with Hyproc acting as ship manager. The vessel has been put into servi ce transp ortin g LNG produced produced in Algeria, Algeria, to European European countries countries bordering the Mediterranean such such as France, Italy, and Spain. It has been been designed designed with with the optim optimum um dimensions, suitable for the various receiving ports in these count countries ries,, thus coining the descri description ption 'Mediterranean-Max' or 'Medmax'. The Gaz Transport and Techni Technigas gas (GTT) (GTT) Mk III, membra membrane ne cargo containment system has been adopted for the transport of the cargo, cargo, which is is carried carried in four stainle stainless ss steel steel tanks, fitted into a double-skin cargo hold. The tanks are separ ated from each other by cofferdams, and extend above the upper deck to form a fore and aft raised trunk, with the surrounding side and double bottom spaces used for water ballast. Each cargo tank is equipped with two Ebara electricallydriven, driv en, subme submerged rged cargo pumps pumps of 1000m 1000m³/h ³/h capacity capacity and a spray pump. pump. An emergency cargo pump is also available, for use as required required in any tank. Two low-duty and two high-duty compressors are installed in the compressor room, located on the upper deck. Reinforced polyurethane foam insulation panels prevent tank structure distortion and leakage leakage of LNG in the event event of an accident. accident.
