School Based Feeding Program (SBFP)
>It is a DepEd Order No. 87 s.2012 >The SBFP was previously known as Breakfast Feeding Program (BFP) which was initially conceptualized and launched in 1997 to address the short term hunger syndrome >The SBFP aims to provide hot meals to severely wasted children Objectives of SBFP 1. To rehabilitate at least 70% of the severely wasted beneficiaries to normal nutrition status at the end of 100-120 feeding days. 2. To improve children’s health and nutrition values and behavior 3. To ensure the 85-100% classroom attendance of the target beneficiaries
are identified by the Regional Health and Nutrition Unit (RHNU) Staff with the following criteria: undernourished students, capacity of the school heads to manage, disburse and liquidate funds, awareness on the rules and regulations and schools that are not implementing other feeding program.

are severely wasted Kindergarten to Grade 6 pupils in identified schools. These are the prioritized grade levels due to the high level dropout rate, vulnerability to illness and a critical stage for mental and physical development. Height and weight of beneficiaries shall be taken by the teacher using SBFP Form 1. A calibrated weighing scale shall be used to take the weight and steel tape to take the height
The feeding shall be done for 100-120 days which is within October to March. The feeding days may be shortened if the actual beneficiaries exceeded the target beneficiaries or it may be extended if the actual beneficiaries is below the target beneficiaries.

The best school implementer of SBFP shall be recognized and awarded accordingly at the end of the feeding period based on the following criteria:
Deworming • Deworm beneficiaries before the start of the feeding to get the full benefit of the nutrients of the food. DOH provide the deworming medicines to schools through DepEd RHN to Division offices to Schools. Get parental approval before administering the deworming medicines
Gulayan sa Paaralan Project (GPP) • All schools should plant at least 50 malunggay trees within school premises (DepEd Memo No. 234) and allot an area for production of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables in school. Coordinate with the barangay to establish communal vegetable garden in the community

Waste Segregation and Composting • Separate biodegradable, non-biodegradable and recyclable materials. Use the 5 R’s to minimize garbage (reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and rethink)
Personal Hygiene • Wearing of clean clothes, proper haircut, proper hand washing,
tooth brushing and keeping nails short and clean.
Productivity, Life and Values Development Training • Conduct training on values formation, sustainable food production and nutrition education for parents in order to sustain family food security, increase school retention and improve nutritional status of children in long term.
