SHL BUSHINGS employ Pop Release ® style tapered inner and outer sleeves and a tightening ring to yield a secure 360-degree fit. Designed for mounting sprockets, pulleys and other components, they make keyways unnecessary and facilitate the use of standard shafting.

POP RELEASE ROLLER BEARING UNITS employ a multi-tapered sleeve to achieve a near 360degree interference fit, which minimizes fretting corrosion between the bearing bore and shaft. Units dismount easily, even in contaminant-laden environments. They come equipped with high-capacity spherical roller bearings, which can handle up to 1.5 degrees of misalignment without affecting performance.

POP RELEASE BALL BEARING UNITS are designed for moderate-load, high-speed applications. They employ the same multitapered sleeve arrangement as Pop Release roller units: The nearly 360-degree concentric fit allows for the use of commercial grade shafting, lowers vibration, uses the full capacity of the bearing, eliminates damage to the shaft from set screw or eccentric locking and facilitates dismounting.

AIR HANDLING BALL BEARING UNITS are highefficiency, quiet-running products with honed raceways and precision balls. They feature optimal 120-degree set screw spacing, special air handling grease and low alignment torque for easier static misalignment. Available in pillow block or flange housing styles.

The AIR HANDLING ADAPTER SLEEVE consists of a patented KMFE locknut threaded onto a narrow-slot sleeve. It simplifies mounting of spherical roller bearings, CARB bearings and self-aligning ball bearings, reducing vibration and improving runout and driveup accuracy.

SAF SPLIT PILLOW BLOCKS are low-maintenance, cast-iron units designed to provide high stiffness and maximum versatility. They feature a powder epoxy coating and black oxide fasteners for excellent corrosion resistance even in harsh environments. The blocks’ G7 bore diameter tolerance allows them to accommodate
axial shaft expansion better than competitors’ blocks. Designed to run on grease, static oil, or circulating oil lubrication, this versatile housing sets the standard for the U.S. They house selfaligning ball bearings, spherical roller bearings or CARB® bearings, and can be fitted with a variety of seals.

E X P L O R E R S P H E R I C A L R O L L E R B E A R I N G S EXPLORER SPHERICAL ROLLER BEARINGS incorporate the latest SKF advances in internal bearing geometry, surface finishes, lubrication technology and manufacturing techniques. They can achieve a life expectancy three times longer than conventional spherical roller bearings. With Explorer, design engineers can “power up” new fan applications without increasing bearing size. Quiet-running Explorer bearings can also replace conventional bearings in existing fan applications, yielding increased life and reliability.
C O N V E N T I O N A L B E A R I N G S DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARINGS are highly popular single-row bearings requiring little maintenance. They can carry radial loads and axial loads in both directions, even at high speeds. Available in open, sealed or shielded versions, and with snap ring grooves in the outer ring. SKF offers a unique, high-speed contact sealed version that is ideal for fans.
CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARINGS are available in various designs with differing integral flange configurations, which allow for either axial expansion of the shaft or axial location of the shaft. The bearings’ optimized surface finishes and internal geometry and cage designs provide high radial load capacity and high-speed capability.
CARB ® (COMPACT ALIGNING ROLLER BEARING), a completely new bearing type called “toroidal” roller bearing combines the features of spherical and cylindrical roller bearings. CARB’s outer ring raceway has a large curvature but is not sphered. Consequently, the bearing can accommodate .5 to 1 degree of misalignment, and handle axial displacement equal to 10% of the bearing width in either direction. Used at the floating end of a two-bearing arrangement, CARB is available for all common fan and blower shaft sizes.

B E A R I N G S E A L S SEALS FOR BALL BEARING UNITS Standard unit ball bearings feature the 2F-Seal, a grease-purgeable high-speed contact seal that excludes dust, moisture and other contaminants. It also features an outboard flinger designed to withstand harsh environments. The optional MULTIFUNCTION SEAL combines the M-Seal with an additional flinger-contact seal for exceptional protection against contaminants.
SEALS FOR ROLLER BEARING UNITS The TRIGARD SEAL, standard on SKF roller bearing units, features a double-lip molded contact seal and an outboard trash guard. It provides positive contact even under misaligned conditions. Also available: an all-metal LABYRINTH SEAL for high-speed operation and a GARTER SPRING SEAL that provides excellent grease retention.

SEALS FOR POP RELEASE BEARING UNITS SKF Pop Release units come with a standard TRIGARD SEAL. Also available: a three-piece LABYRINTH SEAL, which has inboard and outboard flingers, and a stationary guard positioned between the two flingers to help prevent contaminant entry.
SEALS FOR SPLIT HOUSINGS Split housing seals include the TRIPLE-RING LER AND LOR SEAL, contact seals and taconite seals. The POSITRAC SEAL, supplied with most new SAF split blocks, features a lightweight aluminum ring and a rubber O-ring integrated into the seal bore for improved twoway sealing. POSITRAC PLUS has an additional component — a polymer contact element riding on the seal’s outer diameter — equipping it for harsh-environment service.

F A N B E A R I N G S Y S T E M The SKF FAN BEARING SYSTEM is an integrated subassembly consisting of dual Pop Release‚ Y-bearing units, high-quality SHL bushings for the fan impeller and driven sheave, and commercial grade shafting. Designed for manufacturers of light-duty centrifugal fans, the system maximizes fan performance and makes downsizing possible.
