The system of levels of folding is more as a guide line, an approximate approach just to orient you and mostly depends of your skills in paper folding. If you are a novice, even the simple level can be challenging for you. And if you are already a connoisseur even a complex model can be simple for you.
This 10-page book with the cover is a cute design, which can be very useful if you want to fold a little book for your miniature library or just to make a lovely gift with your message written on pages. The little book can also make an original pendant. It folds from one rectangle of paper, 2:1 in proportion. The height of the finished book will be 1/8 of the longer side of the original rectangle and the open book will be 1/2 of the shorter side of the original rectangle as pictured. Suggested sizes: Use a rectangle of paper, 2:1 in proportion. If using a rectangle 5 ½ x 11 inches (14x28 cm) in size, the book be about 1 ½ inches (4 cm) in height. If say, you want the book be 2 inches (5 cm) high, the original rectangle should be 8x16 inches (20x40 cm) in size. Suggested paper: regular origami paper, thin copy paper, washi, handmade paper, recycling paper. It is preferable to use two-color paper to get different colors for the cover and pages. You may use the template of this little book design, shown at the end of the article, to plan the layout of your future little book. You even can print and cut the template out, write or draw on its pages and then fold into a little book. When you mastered the folding of this 10-page book with the cover, you can make an advanced cover on that book, so that it will be extended with a certain margin in comparison to the block of pages. First 4 steps are folded in the same way as the main version of the 10-page book. There are a few versions of fancy book covers with shaped flaps that can be used with 16-Page Little Book, which is also presented in this publication. 4 of the pages of the book (1st, 2nd, 15th and 16th) will be taken by the cover and in the result the book will have 12 pages available inside and partially visible endpapers on the inside cover. Suggested sizes: Use a rectangle of paper, 2:1 in proportion and related to paper size used for folding 16-Page Little Book as pictured. If the paper rectangle for the book is 8:4 then the rectangle for the cover should be 4:2. This presents the main principle of forming of fancy covers for the little book that will be developed into several variants of the covers. It also can be used to cover real books. You have to have the 16-Page Little Book folded to start folding the cover. If using two-color paper, begin with colored side down. 1

Place the open book on the paper in the middle and carefully plan top and bottom flaps of the cover, so they are equal and keep a certain margin in relation to the block of pages. This simplified cover is designed for origami novices who can not comprehend the folding of the base cover due to some reasons yet, but want to have the similar cover. So this design will help to achieve the similar visual appearance of the cover with plain flaps, but there will be a lack of connection of the book and the cover in the book spine, which can be compensated by a simple drop of glue to fix the book position on the cover. First 12 steps are the same as for the base cover. Fold the rectangle in half from right to left.
Now we have to determine the size of the book spine. Slightly squeeze the book, place it on the folded edge as shown. The size of the spine depends of the thickness and size of paper you have used, so there is no universal recipe. However, approximately it can be in the way as pictured… Follow the next steps to make the book spine folds.

This slipcase is a five-sided box into which binders, books or book sets are slipped for protection. It’s an easy-to-fold model and c an be used for little books presented in this publication. This design also can be adjusted for any book or papers to store in. The model folds from a square of paper. Using the same principle of making Slipcase the slipcase, it’s possible to create fancy gift bags as well. The long side of the finished slipcase will be about 1/3 of the side of the original square used for the slipcase as pictured.

Suggested sizes: Use a square of paper, the side of which is 1/8 less than the short side of the rectangle used for folding the little book as pictured. The calculations are the same for both - 10-page Little Book and 16-page Little Book. If say for the little book you are using a rectangle 8 x16 inches (20x40 cm) in size, then for the slipcase take a 7-inch (17.5 cm) square of paper.

Using the same principle of making the slipcase, it’s possible to create fancy gift bags. Use a square of paper; wrapping paper, fancy recycling paper like a poster may be a good choice for a gift bag. You will also need 2 identical pieces of string for handles.
The long side of the finished horizontal gift bag will be about 1/3 of the side of the original square, as pictured. Gift Bag
Suggested sizes: In general, to fit your gift into the bag, take a square of paper, the side of which is 4 or 5 times bigger than the long side of the gift itself. For instance, your gift is the little book in the slipcase and the long side of the gift is 2 inches (5 cm). In this case, for the gift bag, take a 10-inch (25-cm) square of paper to fit this gift freely. Slipcase for the little book

When planning paper sizes in advance before actual folding of your gift as the little book in the slipcase, then for the gift bag, take a square of paper, the side of which is about 2 times bigger (or a bit less) than the side of the square which will be used to fold the slipcase. For string handles, you may also use elastic bands, thin elastic hair bands in particular. In this case, in step 11 of the slipcase diagrams, slip the bands on the sides before 14 locking them. The gift bag with 11 string handles is ready!
15 There is another way to attach string handles. You may use a hole-puncher to make holes on flaps as shown. Working consistently with each flap, insert ends of string into holes and tie them into a knot. Repeat for another flap. String handles are ready!
The height of the finished vertical gift bag will be a bit less than 1/3 of the side of the original square.

To fold the vertical gift bag, follow the diagrams of the slipcase up to step 4. It is possible to vary thickness, width, and height of the gift bag, changing the distances ‘a’, ‘b’ and ‘c’ accordingly. 4

This all origami open-front bookcase is a perfect way to store your collection of miniature origami books in the true origami fashion. The base design of the bookcase features 2 shelves and folds from a square of paper. The principle of folding this base design of the bookcase can be applied to fold multiple variations of bookcases with different quantity of shelves and their heights.

The width of the finished bookcase will be 1/4 of the side of the original square and the depth will be 1/8 of the side of the original square used. Suggested sizes: Take a square of paper, so that 1/8 of the side of the square will fit the book with a little spare space. In other words, the side of the square should fit 8 lengths of the book plus about 2 lengths of the book for a spare space, ie the side of the square is 10 times longer than the length of your little book. For instance, if the long side of your little book in the slipcase is 2 inches (5 cm), then in this case, for the 2-shelf bookcase, take a 20-inch (50-cm) square of paper to fit such books freely. This 5-shelf open-front bookcase is based on the previous design of the 2-shelf bookcase and folds from a rectangle of paper in proportion 1:2. Mastering the principle of folding the base design of the 2-shelf bookcase first is advisable. This technique can be applied to fold multiple variations of bookcases with different quantity of shelves and their heights. If you have a large collection of miniature origami books, this 5-shelf bookcase will be a perfect solution to organize all the books.
