Safety Safety features common to Harbour Marine’s mooring equipment include: • • •
Positive locking to ensure the definite locking up of the mooring unit. Safe and reliable release from zero to full load provided from either a local or remote release panel. Safe electro mechanical interlocking to ensure against an accidental or inadvertent release of the mooring.
Design Features & Options Common to all Harbour Marine mooring units: • • • •
• • • •
Mooring Tension Monitoring by integral high integrity load cell. Safe release of the tensioned mooring up to its maximum rated load. Designed in accordance with OCIMF guidelines and compatible with OCIMF chafe chains. Classification Society approvals available to meet the requirements of Lloyds; DNV; ABS; BV and others upon request. Local visible/audible alarms for high load warning. Option to provide remote controlled release operation. Alternative mounting options including weld down and bolt down. Telemetry communication systems for remote wireless monitoring and release operation.
Base Station Monitoring Systems Real time load display is available via telemetry communications with the CALM buoy. The SPM-LMS-02 system is provided with a base station consisting of the telemetry communication interface, PC based operator’s workstation with LCD monitor, and report printer. The dedicated Harbour Marine operating software allows clear display of hawser loads with structured reporting and editing of load information. Load data and alarms are recorded at the Base Station for future analysis. An interface may be provided using industry standard protocols such as MODBUS allowing loads and alarms to be read by the plant based DCS.
Hand Held Wireless Monitors Hand held monitors may be added to systems SPM-LMS 01 or 02 to monitor load and alarm information. An SPM monitoring system can support multiple hand held units which may be issued to par ties having a vested interest in monitoring hawser tensions. Features include: • • • • • • •
Over all size in mm 83(Length) x 53(Height) x 16(Depth). Mass 65 grams Display screen automatically refreshes with new data every 10 seconds Alarms are prioritized with audible alert Degree of protection IP 68 (within pouch) Self powered using replaceable batteries Intrinsically Safe for Zone 1 & 2 hazardous area Multiple units can be supported over a range of 4 to 10 KM
GPS Position Monitoring The SPM buoy systems may incorporate GPS positioning complete with tilt sensor and gyro providing heading, position and via the system software, excursion of the buoy. The relative position of the buoy and vessel may be monitored during vessel approach and following its connection to the buoy. Data can be transmitted to a portable or fixed base station over the common system telemetry link and positioning information can be graphically represented by the dedicated software.
Special Application Engineering Since Harbour Marine designs and manufactures mooring equipment and monitoring instrumentation in house, custom designed solutions for mooring applications are offered to meet special requirements or client needs. Please consult our engineers at

Single Point Mooring (SPM) Monitoring For the Real Time monitoring, broadcasting and recording of hawser tensions that develop during the mooring of a vessel to a CALM buoy or SPM offshore oil facility. The system provides hawser tension warnings and information in an effective and timely manner allowing the vessel’s Master time to attend to potential mooring problems in the event of “Low” “Near High” or “High-High” hawser tension. Other options that may be integrated and supported on the SPM monitoring system include: • Navigational aid operation and status • Product pressure and flow monitoring • Relative position monitoring of the buoy and vessel using GPS
System Configuration Load Monitoring is available for either single or dual leg hawsers and the system may be provided as an upgrade or replacement to an existing CALM buoy. Standard system configurations include: •
SPM - LMS-01: The
•
SPM - LMS-02:
basic Harbour Marine system is fully contained onboard the SPM itself. Load data recording is performed locally and stored for later retrieval. Audible / visible hawser tension warning lights and sirens are installed on the buoy to alert the vessel crew. Building on the above system a remote Base Station Monitoring system may be installed onshore with monitoring operation and diagnostics performed over UHF telemetry communi cations.
Enhancements to the above systems may also include: • •
A Portable Operator’s Workstation Hand Held intrinsically safe monitors to receive loads and high load warning
Features of the Buoy Mounted Equipment Load Cells are designed to suit the tri-plate or pad eye connection for most styles of new and existing CALM buoys. Buoy Controller contains the control system microprocessor, load cell interface, navigational aid control, data logger and telemetr y equipment depending upon the system configuration and options chosen. The controller is generally located on the deck of the SPM within an explosion proof enclosure. A unique design feature of Harbour Marine systems is that the controller is double sealed within a second outer stainless steel enclosure providing superior marine protection. This ensures that the inner explosion proof controller remains in a fully protected and serviceable state resistant to the harsh external environment. Telemetry systems developed by Harbour Marine for offshore applications have a proven history of reliability spanning 20 years. Hawser loads and load alarms are transmitted over telemetry from the buoy system in real time to portable or fixed workstations located on or offshore. Telemetry is UHF band and incorporates inputs for load cells, battery monitoring, and optional line pressure; navigational beacon photocell; navigational aid status. Other optional interfaces are available for anemometers, temperature and humidity sensors. Power Supply to operate the buoy equipment is provided from deep cycle batteries which are solar charged and microprocessor controlled and monitored to provide automatic load shedding, temperature compensation and charge status. The power status may be interrogated from the Base Station Monitoring System.
Load Cells The integral load cell measures mooring tension and is a critical component of each mooring unit, designed for the harshest marine environments. Harbour Marine load cells are manufactured in-house and have a proven history of reliability and accuracy for offshore mooring applications. The range of Load Cells for offshore applications offer: • • • • •
High ingress protection against water & dust to IP68. Shock release tested with the mooring units. Dual redundant gauging providing 2 load cell outputs within the single shaft. Certified for hazardous areas Zone 1 and Zone 2. Heavy duty wet pluggable electrical field connection (optional).
Instrumentation Packages Control A comprehensive range of standard control room monitoring and operating packages is available. The instrumentation package generally comprises instrumentation rack cabinet containing the equipment interfaces for load monitoring, remote release and environmental sensors. The operator’s workstation can be installed within the instrumentation rack or alternatively supplied as a desktop workstation. Multiple workstations may be networked over Ethernet LAN.
Communications Controllers for the field equipment may be connected over analogue or digital communications. Control and status information from slave controllers, located next to each mooring unit, are typically relayed to the main control room workstation via point to point or multi drop connections over RS485 twisted pair shielded cable. Other communication options include secure radio telemetry enabling transmission of load information and alarm signals to fixed or portable remote workstations, portable intrinsically safe certified monitors or a PDA.
Software Independent or fully integrated software applications for Load Monitoring are available with options to include Remote Release operation, Metocean monitoring or vessel positioning using GPS. Accurate monitoring, display, recording and printout of data for single and multiple mooring arrangements can be provided, linked to audible / visible tension alarm stations. Extensive analysis and editing software developed by Harbour Marine provides structured reporting of recorded data by date, time period, load magnitudes or alarm event. Integration to the vessel based DCS can be provided via industry standard protocols.
Meteorological & Ocean Monitoring Depending on the mooring application, data from local or remotely located environmental sensors can be integrated into t he Harbour Marine system. A wide range of sensors & systems are available, backed up by proven and practical experience gained in the measurement of environmental data that often effect
