Course Objectives: At the end of this course course participants participants will....... Understand the benefits benefits of the ODIS system and its place in the service core process process Be able to start and navigate efficiently through the ODIS system. Understand the functions of ODIS such as Test Instruments, Flashing, Diagnosis, Info, and Admin. Be able to carry out basic operations on the vehicle using ODIS such as resetting service indicators, key coding and switching off transport mode. Introduce a fault to the vehicle (for example a sensor or an actuator on the engine). Start diagnosis and enter vehicle data. Practical exercises session 8. Test Drive Mode Follow the instructions below in order to activate test drive mode. Test drive mode can only be activated when the tester is connected to a network. In “Extras” press the test drive button.

Then click on “Activate test drive mode”.

All of the required data is now copied to the diagnostic tester. Then click ok.

Remember , before using “Flash” mode ensure that the radio head VAS5054 is hard wired to the vehicle. Flash mode can be accessed from the start screen by clicking on the “Flashing” button.

Practical exercises session 11. Test Instruments Ensure that the URDI, DSO, and Amp clamp cable are correctly connected to the VAS5051B or the VAS6356. Familiarise yourself with the layout and the operation of the multimeter and oscilloscope in the Test instruments function of ODIS. Practical exercises session 13. Administration Remember!! You should not make any adjustments to the settings in the administration function of ODIS, unless instructed to do so by the Importer. The function of the ODIS programme may be impeded if the settings are changed. The settings you may adjust are “Brand design” and “Language”. Quick start guide to using Guided Fault Finding.

Click on the “DiagStarter.bat” icon on the desktop. This is a yellow icon with a picture of an engine check lamp.

Alternatively, you can start the ODIS programme from the programmes listing as can be seen above.

After double clicking on the “DiagStarter.bat” icon a window appears on the screen. Here you can whose if you want to open the ODIS programme or the VAS PC programme. Click on the ODIS programme (Offboard Diagnostic Information System).

As the ODIS programme is opening, error messages may pop up on the screen. Click “OK” to these messages. Note: These error messages only appear on the pilot version of ODIS.

The ODIS programme starts up.

Read through and observe the warnings and click OK.

You are now at the ODIS start page which has automatically defaulted to the “Diagnosis” function. Click “Start Diagnosis”.

The ODIS system begins communication with the vehicle and determines the VIN (vehicle identification number).

Input the model, model year, variant, and engine code from the drop down menus.

After selecting the vehicle information, ensure the check box is ticked in order to work with Guided Fault Finding. Then click “Apply”.

Input your user ID and password and click “Apply”.

The system determines if any orders for the vehicle have been created using ElsaPro.

Click on “Without Order”, as no order number was created using ElsaPro. This will be possible in the future when ElsaPro will be connected to the dealer management system.

The system queries the fault memories of all the control units connected to the vehicles networking system. There is also a progress bar at the lower right hand corner of the screen.

This screen now appears. If you are working with an ElsaPro order number, and a DISS report was created by the Service Advisor, you have the opportunity of coding the DISS report from the workshop point of view here. If not, click on the “Control units” tab.

This is a list of all the control units that were queried during Guided Fault Finding. You also have the options of changing the view by clicking on the tabs at the lower left of the screen called Block diagram, Control unit list, and Event memory list.

The is the Block diagram view of control units that were queried during Guided Fault Finding. Control units highlighted in black are fitted but have no faults logged. Control units in red are fitted to the vehicle and have fault memories logged. Control units in grey are not fitted to the vehicle. Click on “Test plan” to access the test plan.

This is the “Test plan” tab. In this example there is one test in the plan that the system has generated. Highlight the test you wish to perform, and click on “Perform test”.

Process the guided test as you would using the VAS PC programme. Click “Done/Continue” to proceed through the test. Click on “Cancel test” if you wish to return to the test plan.

This is the test plan tab. If you wish to find your own guided test for a component or a function (function/component selection in VAS PC), click on “Select own test”.

After clicking on the “Select own test” button a pop up window appears. This are the same options that were available in the function/component selection menu in VAS PC. Browse through the folders to locate the component or function you are seeking.

Highlight the function or component you wish to test and click on “Attach to test plan”. The system then adds the test you have selected to the test plan.

The test you have chosen has been added to the test plan. If you wish to perform the test, highlight it, and then click on perform test.

If you wish to exit guided fault finding after completing your test plan, click on the “Control units” tab at the top left of the page.
