General

1 General Flexi Outdoor Case (FOC) is a case designed to contain the following indoor units: – – – – – – –

FIU 19E SRAL XD FlexiMetro FlexiHybrid A-1200 Power Injector FlexiPacket FirstMile 200

Also any other 19’’ indoor unit with the heat generation which is less than, or equal to 135W, could be installed inside the Flexi Outdoor Case. However, the installability, cabling solution, thermal functionality, etc. should be tested and verified before installation. Flexi Outdoor Case is completely compatible with FlexiBTS, is stackable and pole mountable as any FlexiBTS module with same FlexiBTS mounting parts. Flexi Outdoor Case dimensions are: – –

2 U (2 standard units) inner space 20” outer width.

The connections between FOC and the external world are executed using cables supporting outdoor installations (Table 1). The description and the composition of Outdoor Cable Kits are reported in the chapter describing the relevant IDUs. The connections between these cables and the installed IDU are carried out by adapter cable sets, supplied with the FOC. There are two case options: – –

T55150.10 Flexi Outdoor Case T55150.15 Flexi Outdoor Case with extension temperature.

Currently, the thermal limits of FOC are stated as follows: – –

Start-up range (T55150.10): -5ºC/ +55ºC Start-up range (T55150.15): -35ºC/ +55ºC (with heater) and this can be guaranteed in case the inner power load (from IDUs) is > 15W.

The start-up temperature can be extended to -35ºC/ +55ºC by using the heaters.

Caution If water leaks into the outdoor mechanics, the transmission equipment may fail. To help prevent water leakage in wall and pole mounting, feed the cables through the lower cable entries only.

Unscrew the fixing screw of the side closing panel (a), remove the closing panel. Remove the external cover (b), inserted by pressure.

The internal cover (c) is constituted by a cover and two side panels, fixed to the cover by 4 screws (f), where the holes for the cable output are present. The hole present in one of the two side panels is closed by a cap (d) and must be used only in case of use of FOC in configuration with two cable outputs. This option is foreseen only for the floor installation. In order to remove the whole inner cover, unscrew the 2+2 M3 fixing screws (e).

In order to completely remove the inner cover, disconnect, on the Fan Controller Board, present inside the cover itself, the cables arriving from the fans.

Verify that the cable output is on the most suitable side for the installation. Otherwise, invert the position of the side panels. Remove the output plate to make the insertion of the cables easy. This plate is fixed to the inner cover by 4 M3 (f) screws. Open the cap only in case of use of both the cables outputs.

Verify that the position of the fans respects the needs of the installed IDU. The direction of the air flow is pointed out in the following chapters describing the installation of the different IDUs. Should the internal fan be repositioned, act as follows: – – – –

unscrew the two fixing screws of the external fans plate, remove the plate paying attention to the power supply connector unscrew the four fixing screws of the internal fans plate put the plate in the modality required by the type of installed IDU fix the internal fans plate and then the external fans plate.

The following indications, described in step 6 and step 7, must be executed only for the pole/wall installation. 6

Pole/wall installation: Prepare the plinth using the pole/wall installation brackets. Pay attention in order to obtain the wished installation. Install the adapter mechanics a) Fix the upper bracket on the plinth with three M8 x 20 screws. Do not tighten yet. b) Fix the lower bracket on the plinth with three M8 x 20 screws. Do not tighten yet. When the screws are left loose at this point, it allows the plinth to move slightly and prevents it to get twisted in the installation phase

The installation of the two squares depends on the right/left positioning of the front side with respect to the pole/wall.

General rules for the IDU cabling 1

Before inserting the IDU into the case, connect the grounding cable to the IDU (see the chapter relevant to IDUs installation and the equipment documentation).

Make sure that the fans power supply cables can be easily reached for their successive connection to Fan Controller Board.

The positioning of the 1U IDU can be freely chosen by the installer. Pay attention that the position of the IDU determines the direction of the internal air flows, as pointed out in the following chapters describing the IDUs.

For the fixing of the IDU into the case, use the screws and the nuts provided with the case.

Caution

The connections of the cables must be always executed with the case already installed.

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) may damage components in the plug-in units or other units. Wear an ESD wrist strap or use a corresponding method when handling the units, and avoid touching the contacts and connector surfaces.

Tighten the adapter mechanics screws

Check the length of the hose. The supplied hose is 1000 mm long. If the hose is too long cut it before inserting the cables. The minimum length of the hose must not be less than 800 mm. Expecially in case of pole installation, we suggest to execute the following operations of cable insertion in an easy working position.

Insert the cables in the hose and then in the fairlead/plate group separate from the hose, but already fixed on the output plate; fix the fairlead on the output plate tightening properly by using an adjustable wrench (56 to 64 mm). – –

The indications and the procedure of operations to execute for a correct installation of the cables are reported here below: – – – –

For the floor installation: insert on the fairlead the 90° bend and, over this, the hose. For the pole/wall installation: insert the hose directly on the fairlead.

Insert the optical tail (if present) Insert the cables starting from those with greatest section area until the smallest one. Feed the cables through the cable entries. Mark the cables so that you know that cables are connected to the correct connectors. For the cables terminated on the IDU side, insert the cable from the not terminated side, in the IDU -> outside direction.

If necessary, to make the operations easy, use the cable guide probe (fish tape). 8

Insert the cables

Once inserted the IDU, bring the cables/hose assembly and fix it to the case by means of 2 M3 screws, paying the maximum attention. Caution The inner front cover doesn’t have a suitable support to favour the attack of the cables. To avoid this condition, it is reasonable to screw the cables support at the box before to connect all cables. Power, alarms, and fans cables will be plugged before to close the inner front cover.

The IDUs are powered via FOC and the powering options are: – –

Due to the power distribution structure, each of the FOC’s power inputs is rated to withstand half of the total FOC current load (The maximum FOC power load is supported only if both the input powers are connected to two power sources). For this reason, a -48V & 10A breaker should be forseen on each of FOC’s power inputs.

Installation

Final operations Once executed the IDU installation, respecting the indications reported in Chapter 3 and following, execute the following operations: –

Connect the IDU grounding cable (a) to the cover. FOC is equipped with two grounding cables. Connect always both the cables to the grounding point inside the cover (even if only one IDU is present). The unused cable can be used in a future expansion.Temporarily fixing the internal grounding cable, also the external GND cable (b) must be fixed. For this purpose, use the M5 screw and nut already present on the cover.

Install the inner front cover with M3 screws (1). Do not use force when placing the inner front cover in order to avoid damages to the rubber seals.Push the inner front cover into the grooves of the upper and lower front edges of FOC. In order to avoid water infiltrations, during the closing of the inner bos with the cover, make sure that these two elements are perfectly aligned (to make the operation easy, loose the M3 screws of the lateral plate).

4 Maintenance Procedure in Flexi Outdoor Case FOC has been designed in order to minimize the maintenance and/or repair interventions. For this purpose, procedures of preventive maintenance and of component repair/replacement have been foreseen.

4.1

Preventive Maintenance Procedures of preventive maintenance are foreseen in order to keep the full efficience of FOC and of the components installed in it. The procedures to execute are listed in the following table which reports even the periodicity suggested for the execution of the procedures themselves. Ref.

In order to remove possible traces of dirt on the internal fan, act in the following way: –

As per the previous procedure: remove the four fixing screws of the rear panel of FOC; unscrew the two fixing screws of the external fans plate, remove the plate paying attention to the power supply connector; remove the external fan plate. Unscrew the four fixing screws (c) of the internal fans plate. Extract the internal fan and remove, using a brush and/or a cloth, possible traces of dirt present on the fan. Re-install the fan executing the described operations in reverse order.

Preventive replacement of the fans In order to avoid the possible stop of the fans due to the end of the life cycle, the whole fan plate must be replaced with the suggested periodicity (5 years). For the replacement procedure, refer to the following chapter of corrective maintenance.

Open the cover of FOC to access to Fan Controller Board and examine it to identify the blown fuse. All fuses are provided with a led signalling, when on, the correct operation of the relevant fuse. Internal air flow Before installing the IDU into FOC, it is necessary to verify that the direction of the cooling air flows is correct. Verify that the fan installation matches the needs of IDU and check the direction of the arrow placed on the fan and visible from inside. The Figure shows the correct air flow inside FOC.

The A-1200 is suitable for installation as part of the Common Bonding Network(CBN). • •

Only use 18 AWG copper wires. Coat bare conductors with antioxidant before making crimp connections. Incorporate into the field wiring a suitably sized listed breaker and disconnect device (as per the National Electric Code), with a maximization of 6 A. The size of the supply conductors should be 18 AWG (minimum).

Shut down the DC power source before connecting the power cables.

Tighten all terminals to a torque specification of 7 lb-in (0.79 N-m). Steps of mounting the power connector 1

Open the package supplied with the unit containing the components of the DCterminal power block.

Loosen the left screw of the connector and attach the positive (+) power wire to the left screw.

Tighten the left screw.

Loosen the right screw of the connector and attach the negative (–) power wire to the right screw.

Tighten the right screw.

Place the connector (with the cable inserted) over the lower enclosure.

Insert the cable strip through the left cable strip hole of the lower enclosure. Make sure that: – –

The grooved side of the cable strip faces right. The cable strip is inserted through the front of the lower enclosure.

Loop the cable strip around the back of the lower enclosure and insert the cable strip through the right cable strip hole of the lower enclosure.

Tighten the cable strip.
