Dolphins and whales have voices, but they are different from most other mammals. They do not make sounds with their mouths, like human beings, but from nasal ‘airsacs’, which are just below their blowhole. Because it is difficult to see under water, sound and hearing are very important for them. In fact, whales use sound to communicate with each other over very long distances (sometimes hundreds of kilometres) by using very low frequency sounds. However, dolphins usually use higher frequencies, which means they can’t be heard over such great distances. People believe that dolphins are one of the most intelligent animal species on the planet and this is because they have a complicated system of communication. J.M.W. Turner I have always been interested 0 in the work of J.M.W. Turner – one of 1 most famous English 2 landscape . Unlike many other painters of the time, he was successful throughout his life. In fact, he was only fifteen when his first painting was exhibited at a famous art 3 . His first job was 4 an architect’s assistant but, by the time he was fourteen, he decided he wanted to become a painter and he entered the Royal Academy School. He started painting in watercolours and turned to oils later on. 5 he was twenty seven he started travelling in Europe where he filled hundreds of sketchbooks, which he later turned into his incredibly 6 paintings. He was greatly inspired by his trips to Venice, which led to 7 of his finest work.


Skills

He studied the effects of the sea and sky in every kind of weather wherever he went and created light-filled paintings. Many of his pictures tell historical stories and express great emotions. In addition, he developed his own technique to create the details in his sometimes almost abstract paintings. He would put the details in by scraping and wiping the wet paint. 8 he was respected by many of his colleagues, there were several critics who did not like his work at all.
