1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this report is to introduce the basics of the Environmental Alarms in NetAct. Environmental alarms are of great importance as they can lead to major outages. These are the Alarms that are categorized as non service effecting Alarms or external alarms but they can still lead to major outages and create problems for us. The document explains basic concepts about these Alarms that will surely help the new comers i.e they understand the escalation procedures for these alarms.
2. TYPES OF ALARMS

3. POWERONE MESSAGE
Powerone message appears when the power source of the site switches to batteries due to the possible reasons: • •
Failure of commercial power Failure of Generator to start
The alarm should be escalated to the field person after waiting for 10 mins So that the genset (generator) could be started, if the genset doesn’t start and the commercial power doesn’t restore either then escalation should be done immediately.
4. POWERONE LOW SYSTEM VOLTAGE
This alarm appears when the batteries are nearly drained out; it should be escalated immediately to the field person. This alarm some times also appears when the generator is running this is because the batteries may be weak and they may be in charging process, so the generator running alarm should also be checked before escalation.
5. POWERONE BATTERY FAILURE
On sites, there may be 1-3 battery banks depending on the requirement. This alarm appears when there is a voltage difference of more than 2 volts b/w the outputs of the battery banks. This also results in low battery backup And leads to low system voltage. So this alarm also has to be escalated within 10 mins.
6. GENERATOR RUNNING
This alarm appears when generator is started, the generator starts when there is commercial power failure or the commercial voltage is low.
7. LOW FUEL
When the fuel in the storage tank reaches 150 litres or below then this alarm is generated. The max capacity of the storage tank may vary from 500 litres to 1000 litres.
8. DOOR ACCESS
This Alarm is generated when the site is accessed or the door is opened; we have shelter (Indoor) sites and outdoor sites, for the outdoor sites this alarm is generated when the BTS cabinet is opened & for the shelter sites the alarm is generated when the main door for shelter is opened.
9. AIRCON FAILURE
When the air condition in the BTS cabinet stops working due to any reason for e.g. the cooling fan is broken/faulty. This alarm is critical specially if it appears on BSCs and has to be escalated to the field engineer.
10. HIGH TEMP
This alarm results due to Aircon failure it also has to be escalated to the field person.
11. AVR FAILURE
AVR stands for automatic voltage regulator; this alarm is mostly patched in shelter sites and the BSCs, this alarm appears due to low commercial power (voltage) or fluctuation, when this alarm appears two things have to be checked: Powerone message • Generator Running • If the Powerone message appears then it means that the genset has not started and wapda is not present. In that case it has to be escalated to the field engineer. If the alarm of generator appears then there is no need for the escalation.
12. BTS POWERONE MAINS AC FAILURE
This alarm is usually patched on METRO sites where no genset is present and only commercial power is available. This alarm also has to be escalated after 10 mins to the field person. So that the field person may confirm whether the it is a commercial power failure or the breakers have tripped due to fluctuations.
13. GEM ACTIVE
This alarm appears when GEM (Generator Manager) device is active. GEM Device stops the Genset to start immediately after Main Power failure (Wapda) thus resulting in fuel safety
14. BSC POWERONE BATTERY
This alarm appears specifically on the BSC and the reasons for the appearance of this alarm are same as that of Powerone Battery Failure except that this alarm appears on the BSC.
15. BSC POWERONE SERVICE/ BSC POWERONE MAINS AC FAILURE
These alarms are patched on the BSCs; they result due to Commercial power failure on the BSC, this is a critical alarm and has to be escalated within 5mins if the alarm “Generator Running” doesn’t appear or Powerone message appears.
