Designing in the street A group of Design students from Sheeld Hallam University in the UK did a research project about creative street design. The students focused on a section of loucester !oad in "ondon.
The students started by #atching #hat happened in the street over a #ee$. They also tal$ed to people in the street% as$ing their opinions about ho# they #anted the street to change in the future. The students also #anted to encourage a sense of community. &1' (((((( )ne of the ideas they had #as *+us Stop ,essaging-. They put a large notepad on a bus stop #ith the uestion */hat are you thin$ing about to pass the time0- 1uite a fe# people used it. &2' ((((((( The ne2t e2periment #as a *S#ap +o2-. This #as a bo2 that people could leave things i n that they no longer #anted and as$ for things they #anted. 3ach object in the S#ap +o2 had a paper tag attached #ith a short story about the history of the object and #hy the o#ner #anted to s#ap it. &3' ((((((( Another funny idea that emerged as a result of the research #as the *ossip 4ehicle-. This is an electric car that could be shared by the people living on the street in an e5ort to reduce the number of cars in the area.
