Teacher Activity
Preliminary Activities
Greetings Good Morning Class!
Student Activity
Good Morning sir.
(student) In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen. (Students will pray)
Yes, Sir! (students will pick up pieces of dirt and arrange their seats properly)
Prayer Please all stand for the opening prayer. Mr.________ please lead the prayer. Classroom management Class before you seat down, please pick up the pieces of dirt under your chair and arrange your seats properly.
(Secretary) None sir!
Checking of attendance Ms. Secretary, do we have absentees?
That’s good.
Checking of assignments
Did I give you an assignment last meeting? OK, since none let’s recapitulate of what we have discussed last meeting
Recall of past lesson Who can recall of what we have discussed last meeting?
So, again what are comets?
What are the components of comets?
(The students will answer the question) (student)Last meeting we discussed all about comets and asteroids (student) sir, Comet- is a dusty chunk of ice that partially vaporizes as it passes near the sun (Student), sir the components of the comets are coma, nucleus, ion tail or gas tail, dust tail and hydrogen envelope (Student), sir comets come from the two reservoir of the outer solar system which are the Kuiper belt and Oort cloud (Student) sir, Asteroid-Are rocky leftovers of planet formation (student) sir, base from what I have learned the asteroid belt is located between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter?
Where do comets come from?
How about asteroids, how can you define asteroid? Where does the asteroid belt located?
comet
Thank you for that wonderful retention, I am hoping that you will never forget that. Engage Motivation I will present some pictures then you are going to identify the name of each picture according to the appearance.
asteroid belt
the meteor entering the earth’s atmosphere
What is this image? How about this one?
How about this one?
Presentation of new lesson
Very good answers, class. That images have connection with our new topic which is “meteoroid, meteor, and meteorite: how are they related?”
At the end of the discussion, the students are expected to: 1. Describe meteors, meteoroid and meteorite 2. Differentiate meteors, meteoroid and meteorite 3. Perform simple activity which has relevance to meteors, meteoroid and meteorite 4. Cite the importance of meteors, meteoroid and meteorite on our daily living.
Presentation of Objectives
But, before we discuss our topic, let’s have first our learning objectives: Who can read?
(Student will read) •
• •
Meteoroid – A small fragment of a comet or asteroid that orbits the Sun. Meteor – a small fragment burning up in our atmosphere. Meteorite – A small fragment of a meteor that survived until it reached the ground.
Ok, thank you these objectives will be our goal for this day and we will attain it profoundly.
Unlocking of difficulties
(kindly read the following terminologies)
Ok thank you those terms will be used in our discussion for us to understand more about the topic.
EXPLORE To start with our topic, we will be having first an activity. I will group you into four groups, each group must have a leader and presenters. Group leader kindly approach me for the materials. The activity is very easy because you are just going to arrange the chronological order of the meteorite, meteor and asteroid when they enter the earth’s atmosphere.
Yes, sir (the students will answer the activity sheet)
The presenter will present their output
The activity is interesting and enjoyable in such a way that we should think appropriate answers to the given word
Comet- is a dusty chunk of ice that partially vaporizes as it passes near the sun (The students will answer)
Meteors are what see in the sky or the so called shooting star
(The students will answer the question) Arrange the following words: meteoroid, meteorite and meteor before (The students will answer the question) and after entering the earth’s atmosphere Then you are going to write the answers (The students will answer the question) on the manila paper that I gave. After that you the presenter will explain to the class why they arrive that answers. I will give 7 minutes to the activity then you are going to be graded according to the rubrics that I made. Are you ready class?
(The students will do the activity)
So I think let’s come now to the presentation of each group. Ok, let’s proceed to the presentation of group one. let’s give them around applause. Ok thank Explain How did you find the activity?
What is comet?
Who can give an examples of comets? Why we have different comets? How comets are formed? What is meteor on your words?
How does meteors form? What is asteroid? How does asteroid form?
Elaborate Ok, thank you for your wonderful answers Since you already know the concept behind comets, asteroids and meteors, I will give an activity, same grouping. I will give you manila paper and pentel pen then you are going to put the importance of the comets, asteroids and meteors Each group will explain that importance to the class. I will give you 5 minutes to the activity
Evaluation Get ¼ sheet of paper, then answer the following questions. For 3 points define the following 1. Comets 2.Asteroids
(The students will answer the evaluation)
3. meteors For 7 points, give the importance Enrichment Please has an advance reading about our next activity and kindly bring those materials needed
