Lesson proper (a) Teacher shows them the picture of the HULK and compares him to monophonic music then give its definition (b) we said earlier that the Hulk is a hero who prefers to work alone, because he knows that he can be capable to handle some conflicts alone, in music melodies can stand alone is called Monophonic Monophonic music has only one melodic line, with no harmony or counterpoint only one line that has specific pitches. ex. One person whistling a tune , a person singing a capella listening example: the whistle theme from kill bill A group of people all singing a song together, without harmonies or instruments (c) The teacher shows the students the picture of Captain America and Ironman, then compares them to the Hulk and ask them in discussion form the definition of homophonic. (d) In the movie there is a scene where Captain America and Iron Man work together as team to fix their ship, would they be able to accomplish it if only one has done the task? In music when a melody is played together with accompaniment or harmony, it s called Homophonic. Music having or characterized by a single melodic line with accompaniment called homophonic.. ex. A singer accompanied by a guitar picking or strumming chords. Listening example:
After discussing the first two textures, the teacher show the picture of the whole team, and relates it to Polyphonic music
ARTS SUBJECT AREA MUSIC APPRECIATION 1 (e) We saw that in order to save the world, the avengers needed to work together as one to save the world, with each of their own individual skills and talents they were able to solve the conflict. Just like in music if there are individual, melodic or harmonic lines that compliments each other, the texture of the music is Polyphonic if more than one independent melody is occurring at the same time, the music is polyphonic. ex. Rounds, canons, are all polyphonic. (Even if there is only one melody, if different people are singing or playing it at different times, the parts sound independent.) Most music for large instrumental groups such as bands or orchestras is Polyphonic Listening example: Cannon in D by Johann Pachelbel Therefore texture in music, is the relationship of B)
In order for the students to experience the texture of music, the teacher ask his students to sing the intro of “Just the way you are” by Bruno Mars: 1. teaches the melody by rote 1. the first part in unison (Monophonic)
