a Heartbound feat fulfills the Heartbound Partner requirement of any feat as it is taken once the Partner is selected.
Introduction
Feats of Synergy – Heartbound Heroes
Roleplaying games often avoid basic aspects of fantasy media. For example, some of our favorite stories showcase romance in ways essential to the heroes of the stories. Often the heroes would not overcome the evils they faced without their love for one another driving them on and in a world of magic that power might even go beyond the mundane.
All’s Fair (Heartbound) “You’ll wish you’d never touched her.” - Vutaro Ch’sarin
Some people feel romance has no place in their games, and frequently in literature romance in the wrong setting is a recipe for tragedy. That said having a formalized rule group for such relationships can actually minimize their disruptive effects by both providing guidance as to when acknowledging them is useful and tying their game time to campaign significant mechanics.
Prerequisites: Sneak Attack +1d6, Heartbound Partner Benefit: Upon seeing your love harmed, you explode into avenging action. When witnessing your Heartbound Partner take hit point damage, take ability damage, or gain a negative condition (shaken, panicked nauseated, etc.) caused by an enemy, your attacks against them in the following round are filled with such anger and passion they are caught off guard. Attacks during this round are resolved on this creature as though it were flat footed.
These feats might require a little more thought or maturity to use than some others but power always has its price.
Rules Element:
GM Advice: Alternate conditions for triggering Rogue’s Sneak Attack class features are fascinating mechanics and often all too rare. This alternate condition requires similar risk to assuming flank and fits the flavor of the Heartbound Hero who doesn’t always play by the rules.
Heartbound Feats The (Heartbound) descriptor is used to represent a significant emotional investment by a character— an investment of time and resource that equals tireless hours mastering a weapon or drawing extra strength from a spell. As such these feats are NOT recommended to casually interested players. Heartbound feats often should be considered at character creation but may make sense to acquire during later game play.
Heart’s Vengeance (Heartbound) “For each scratch on him, you will pay me back in blood…” - Divarran of Whitesteading
Note: Before Heartbound feats are used, consider if they are appropriate for your group. This may require a discussion with ALL of your players. Heartbound feats and in game romances can cause other players to feel side-lined in the story and GMs are advised to keep things in balance for his players whether or not the use Heartbound feats.
Prerequisites: BAB +1, Heartbound Partner Benefit: Upon seeing your love harmed, you stir to avenge them. When witnessing your Heartbound Partner take hit point damage, take ability damage, or gain a negative condition (shaken, panic, nauseated, etc) caused by an enemy your morale bonus to attack and damage increases by +1. At 11th level this bonus increase to a +2.
Heartbound feats are different from many feats because a Heartbound feat must be taken by another partner for either partner’s Heartbound feats to be effective. They are different from Teamwork feats because Heartbound feats DO NOT require both partners to have same feat. Each character taking a Heartbound feat must select a Heartbound Partner who triggers their feats. The act of taking
2 2
Normal: Aid another generally takes a standard action and may require touch range.
GM Advice: Many martial arts traditions state that strength beats weakness, training beats strength, and that spirit will triumph over skill. Protecting that which one loves draws forth the spirit to overcome. Characters without morale effects have +0 morale bonuses to attack and damage. This allows the stirred spirit of this feat to stack with spells and bardic effects that further stir the spirit. With such inspiritaion the noble love will defeat the greatest evils.
GM Advice: Aid Another actions are powerful advantages that can really drive skills and actions to the point of a critical success. However, the incremental bonus to success isn’t always strong enough to entice co-operative play of that type. The lovers with these feats can use this advantageous option with greater ease.
Heartbinding Spell (Metamagic)
Love’s Resolve (Heartbound)
“Could there have been anyone before me?” - Numera the Clanless
“I mustn’t fail Maurgarite.”
Prerequisites: School Focus (Enchanment)
Prerequisites: Fortitude Base Save +1, Will Base Save +1, Heartbound Partner
Benefit: Your charm magic is so seductive that those who succumb to it share a deception of love so deep that you can’t deny it all together yourself. Creatures affected by a heartbinding spell with the [mindaffecting] descriptor are considered your Heartbound Partners for the duration of your spell. You may use your Heartbound feats triggering with them and they may use any Heartbound feats they have as though you were their Hearbound Partner. A heartbinding spell uses up a spell slot of the same level as the original spell.
Benefit: Upon seeing your love threatened, you stir to save them. When witnessing your Heartbound Partner in a situation that could cause them take hit point damage, take ability damage, or gain a negative condition (shaken, panic, nauseated, etc) and you are unable to act due to an ongoing effect from a failed saving through, you may re-roll that save as an immediate action. You may do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier or Wisdom modifier (your choice) each day.
GM Advice: While most feats in this supplement celebrate the power of love, this one champions the strength of deception and corrupt charm. How much more evil is the enchantress that can win the Noble Knights valor as if she was his own betrothed.
GM Advice: How many stories have the essential moment that a character recalls the face of his or her love to find the necessary strength to overcome curses, spells, and many other trials. This feat brings that moment of inspired resolve to the table in a simple and powerful way.
Inspiring Glance (Heartbound) “If anyone can do it you can!”
- Lord Kaelos
Magic Entwined (Heartbound)
- Riara of the Ninth City
Prerequisites: Charisma 13+, Heartbound Partner
“My power sings for you like my heart does.” - Sidra Velae
Benefit: You take a moment to meet your love’s eyes and inspire them to further greatness. Heartbound characters with this feat may use the Aid Another action as a swift action and at a range of 30 feet. They may use this feat a number of times per day equal to their Charisma modifier.
Prerequisites: Casting attribute 13+, Caster Level 1, Heartbound Partner Benefit: Beneficial spell effects you cast on your Heartbound Partner are resolved at a +4 caster level, this increase does not affect other targets of the spell.

Surge of Passion (Heartbound)
GM Advice: In several traditions of magic, it often responds to intention and focus. It makes sense then that a spellcaster who is focused on a Heartbound Partner finds his or her magic works much better for them.
Polyamorous (Heartbound)
“I fight for love, villain, something you will NEVER understand!” - Sir Urslan
“The more, the merrier…”
Prerequisites: Any Heartbound Feat, Constitution 13+
Prerequisites: Partner
- Thane
Benefit: You draw upon deep reserves to persevere and be beside your love again. As an immediate action, you gain 4 temporary hit points for each Heartbound feat you have, including this one. These hit points last for 1 minute or until removed by damage.
Any Heartbound Feat, Heartbound
Benefit: Select an additional Heartbound Partner. You may now consider any of your Heartbound Partners eligible for Heartbound feat triggers.
GM Advice: Surge of Passion is a solid choice for Heartbound characters for a few reasons. It presents a Heartbound feat that doesn’t require proximity to trigger its benefits. This in turn allows a PC to take Heartbound feats and select an NPC with the GM to be a Heartbound Partner and still not be at a disadvantage for not always traveling with them.
Special: You may select this feat more than once. GM Advice: Some characters are fated to have more than one love and sometimes these bonds are equally strong enough to create Heartbound Bonds with more than one character. GMs should avoid allowing gaming groups overcommitting to the Heartbound mechanic, but the inclusion of this feat allows for love triangles and complex stories. It should be noted that just because a character takes Polyamorous his or her Bond Partners are not required to take this feat.
Wordless Bond (Heartbound) “It’s like she is here with me now.”
Songs of the Heart (Heartbound) “It’s like your song is just for me.”
- Xaea of the Twins
Prerequisites: A Heartbound Partner with a caster level of 1+, or A Heartbound Partner and a caster level 1+. Benefit: Your Heartbound Partner and you can communicate without words. At a range of 10 feet per Heartbound Feat, you possess the ability to communicate as though you had the universal monster ability of telepathy. Beyond this distance the information conveyed becomes hazy and includes whispers, flashes or images, emotion and general senses of direction but is generally not limited by range. At the GMs discretion you may also share information in dreams. This ability is a supernatural, mind-affecting ability.
- Sidra Velae
Prerequisites: Bardic Music or another spell or class ability that grants a morale bonus, Heartbound Partner Benefit: Each morale bonus you grant your Heartbound Partner increases by a +1 bonus. Additionally, durations of such effects last one round longer than their normal duration for the Heartbound Partner. GM Advice: Love and music have gone together in history and fantasy for ages. Heartbound feats have been created with this synergy in mind. Morale effects as written in the Core Rules do not stack, as such Heartbound feats instead increase existing Morale bonuses even if those bonuses are at +0.
GM Advice: A classic part of many fantasy romances, the wordless bond is a frequent component of a love that borders on the supernatural.
