The co-cabinet scenario
The BBU is configured with the GSM boards and UMTS boards. The RF modules of the GSM system and the UMTS system are configured separately. The transmission modules of the GSM system and the UMTS system are independent of each other.
The common parts inside the cabinet are controlled by the GSM and UMTS system.
The dual-mode scenario
Based on the unified hardware platform, the 3900 series supports three working modes: GSM mode, GSM&UMTS dual mode, and UMTS mode through configuration of different software.

MRRU/MRFU Supports Three Working Mode (The Dual-Mode Scenario) MRRU/MRFU features the advanced platform-based architecture. It
supports three working modes: GSM mode, GSM&UMTS dual mode, and UMTS mode.
When the MRRU/MRFU works in GSM Only mode, it must be configured as RRU3008/GRFU.
When the MRRU/MRFU works in UMTS Only mode, it must be configured as SRRU/WRFU.
When the MRRU/MRFU works in GSM&UMTS mode, it must be configured as MRRU/MRFU.

Interconnection of CPRI Port (The Dual-Mode Scenario)
Functions
When the GTMU is used in the GSM&UMTS scenario, three CPRI ports (0, 1, and 2) on the GTMU of the GSM system can be connected to any of the CPRI ports on the WBBP of the UMTS system, and the other three CPRI ports (3, 4, and 5) can be connected to the RXU .

Interconnection of CPRI Port (The Dual-Mode Scenario) Data Flowing Downlink data which is converged in GTMU delivered from the CPRI port
connected to RXU. For example: Downlink data in SFP0 from WBBP convergences the data of SFP3 in GTMU and then delivered it from SFP3.
Uplink data should be delivered to the corresponding port of GTMU and WBBP at the same time. For example: Uplink data in SFP3 should be delivered to GTMU board. The data also should be delivered to SFP0 in GTMU and than to SFP0 in WBBP at the same time.

Interconnection of CPRI Port (The Dual-Mode Scenario)
Interconnection Principles of CPRI Port
Only 0-2 CPRI ports on the GTMU can be connected to the CPRI ports on the WBBP.
3-5 CPRI ports can be connected to the RXURU3908 .
Only 0-2 CPRI ports can be switched to any of the 3-5 CPRI ports. (It needs configuration)
0-2 CPRI ports on the GTMU can be connected to any of the CPRI ports on the WBBP. (It needn’t configuration)
CPRI ports which are not configured as SFP ports can be connected to RXU
as common port.
Notes
The data is converged in GTMU. The server of UMTS will be affected when the GTMU is faulty or reset.
Only 0-2 CPRI ports can be switched to any of the 3-5 CPRI ports. If the site transition from GO(GSM Only)to GU(GSM&UMTS), it needs to adjust former physical connection and data configuration.

Co-Transmission Function (Co-Cabinet Scenario/Dual-Mode Scenario)
Function
The GSM system and the UMTS system share the transmission resources.
Through the TDM timeslot cross connection, the backplane bus enables transmission bandwidth sharing between the GSM system and the UMTS system. This is called TDM Over Package (TOP).

Co-Transmission Function (Co-Cabinet Scenario/Dual-Mode Scenario)
Application Scenario
When the distance of BSC and RNC is near or BSC and RNC are in the same equipment room, the co-transmission can be used. When co-transmission is used, one cable carries two mode signals of GSM and UMTS which can save transmission cable and reduce the cost.
When the distance of BSC and RNC is far, the co-transmission cannot be used.

Notes
The service of one E1 cable on the panel can be transferred to only one E1 cable on the backplane through the TDM timeslot cross but not several E1 cables on the backplane.
The switch between one E1 cable on the panel and one E1 cable on the backplane doesn’t support timeslot cross. That means the timeslot on the panel E1 cable must be switch to the same timeslot on the backplane E1
0 E1 that carries OML must be connected to BSC in current GSM version. So it cannot realized all transmission resource sharing of the UMTS system with the GSM system.
The E1 cable is unification numbered on both panel and backplane of GTMU. The E1 number on the panel is 0-3 and on the backplane is 16-19.

Co-Monitoring system (Co-Cabinet Scenario/Dual-Mode Scenario)
Function
The monitoring system such as PMU, EMU belongs to public monitoring resource which can be shared in two working mode. The dual-mode base station supports to configuration and maintenance the public monitoring resource in two working mode.
Equipment management module (or called monitoring software) manages public parts, data configuration of GSM and UMTS and reports alarm information of public parts according to a preconcerted rule.

Notes
For the public monitoring system can be configured by two working mode, the
data configuration must be consistent. Otherwise it will generate configuration conflict alarm.
It suggest set a set of uniform default value according to the practice of dualmode site.

The configuration principle of XRRU/XRFU
XRRU/XRFU used in hybrid network of different working modes which are share one CPRI port is used to identify RXU board works in another working mode .
For example
SRRU/WRFU works in UMTS Only mode should be configured as XRRU/XRFU in GSM side.
DRRU/DRFU works in GSM Only mode should be configured as XRRU/XRFU in UMTS side.

The GSM&UMTS base station supports the clock source sharing function. Currently, only the E1 clock source of the GSM system can
be shared with the UMTS system.
On the UMTS side, run the SET CLKMODE command, and then set Clock Source Type to PEER.
