The term multiculturalism has become very popular over the past four decade th the 20 century. This is largely due to the articulation of demands for equality culturally diverse groups like the national minorities, immigrants, indigen people, feminists, gays who wanted the society to recognize and accept t differences. These minority groups demand to be treated at par with the majo groups and not to be discriminated against. Multiculturalism reflects a concer make the liberal democracies of the west more sensitive to the existence of cult pluralism within the boundaries of the nation state, which had till then b considered to be culturally homogeneous. It thus represents the extension of lib principles to those sections of the society which had been disadvantaged thereby excluded from the polity.
