') 2hen you chan$e an item ty1e codeA be sure to check the Dumber 4f Sockets sub!branch (under the 4ther branch). n certain circumstancesA the base number of sockets will be chan$ed when you chan$e the item ty1e codeA es1ecially if you set the base number of sockets to less that ma;imum for the item.

f you look at the tabs on the main Hero Editor windowA you will see that you can chan$e 2ay1ointsA SkillsA ,uestsA 7ercenary E;1erience and ntroductions.
For edited charactersA usually enable all way1oints and set all Kuests to ?Lon$ Finished?. also usually set all skill le+els to99. tend not to bother with a mercenary nor introductionsA but you can click on the a11ro1riate tabs to make whate+er chan$es that you desire.
2hen settin$ KuestsA it is best to make sure that the a11ro1riate way1oints are also enabledA so hi$hly recommend enablin$ all way1oints all the time.

So would recommendA editin$ your hi$h!le+el chars with ZonFire99s Hero Editor and resettin$ the character le+el to 99 before o1enin$ your character with =% L4= "."". &e aware that some con+ersion will occur ri$ht away and further chan$es will occur as you sa+e and e;it from a "."" $ame.
n 1articularA Str=e;>itEner$y will be ca11ed at "5%' and Life7anaStamina will be ca11ed at 8"9" as you sa+ee;it a $ame.
*lsoA certain ".59!only attributes will be deleted. n my characters the old ".59 Skill Le+el P"QA P%QA P'QA etc. attributes disa11eared. +e heard of othersA but didnt $et any details. *ll of my UniKue items seemed to con+ert without any 1roblems althou$h the abo+e Skill Le+el attributes did disa11ear.
3.% on+ertin$ ".59 tems
*s mentioned elsewhereA you must strictly se$re$ate your ".59 items from your "."5"."" format items. =o not im1ort ".59 items into your "."" chars!!sometimes they workA sometimes there are minor 1roblemsA and sometimes it messes u1 your character.
So how do you con+ert your ?$reat? ".59 items that you s1ent all that time craftin$R
") ou need to create a mule character!!di$ out an old ".59 char that is a teen or 99 (or $o to the E;tras window in the Hero EditorA click on the temharacter reate tabA and click on the Dew >".59= button to create a new ".59 format character).
%) Set the le+el to 99. f you are usin$ an e;istin$ characterA delete items to create as much s1ace as you need to im1ort any ".59 items that you want to con+ertA 4 if you are creatin$ a brand new characterA Bust rename it to somethin$ a11ro1riate.
') Sa+e the em1ty mule character into both the =iablo directorys sa+e sub! folder and a backu1 sub!folder.
-) m1ort all of your ".59 itemsA sa+e the character and use =% L4= "."" to o1en the character.
0) f you ha+ent mi;ed anythin$ u1A =% will con+ert your character (and all of its items) to "."" format.
3) Sa+e and e;it the $ame and then use the Hero Editor to o1en your con+erted mule character.
6) Dow you can e;1ort your con+erted items into your "."" items sub!folder and archi+e all of your ".59 items.
f you ha+ent alreadyA stron$ly recommend that you take all of your old ".59 items and mo+e them to an archi+e folder that identi@es them as ".59 items (you mi$ht create a "59items sub!folder).
