Canon?s o''icial tet to describe the error is @,he &$AE Cartridge cannot be recogniBed howe(er these messages may also appear when using re'illed or remanu'actured Canon in% cartridges which do not carry canon &$AE? branding as well. ,his does not howe(er mean you must use a brand new Canon cartridge in your printer only that your printer is ha(ing trouble identi'ying the installed cartridge as compatible. =our Canon printer uses a series o' golden colour contacts on the 'ront o' the cartridge as the only point o' contact with the cartridge. $' these contacts are obscured by dirt! in% or natural oils 'rom your hands this can cause this message to occur! it may e(en be that the contacts ha(e become damaged 4(isibly or otherwise5 while the cartridge was being handled.
