The sooner you submit your topic to your advisor, the sooner you can start doing your research on the topic. Please submit the following:
The title of your topic. Your title should be specific and relevant to your field of study.
One to two paragraphs describing the topic and the rationale for choosing the topic. Each paragraph should be 5-7 sentences in length and follow the rules of grammar. You should utilize the 4W 1H method when discussing your topic (Who, What, When, Where, and How).
Preliminary list of 10-15 resources (include only titles and URLs). Make sure your resources are relevant and related to the topic. Do not use web search engines that are not considered reliable (for example: Wikipedia).
For my senior capstone project, I propose the title, “Preventing, Treating, and Responding to Juvenile Sex Trafficking.” Human trafficking seems to have once been thought of as a foreign problem, particularly troublesome in the third world. As a concept in the United States, prostitution has almost always been considered a seemingly “victimless” crime of vice. As sex has come in more demand with the globalization of the economy and crime along with it, human trafficking, especially the trafficking of minors, has become more and more prevalent. Now it is being seen domestically, with children, particularly vulnerable teenagers, being sought out and preyed upon by manipulative traffickers with a cunning and comprehensive understanding of how to effectively conduct a sex trafficking ring. Despite its rising prevalence in suburbs and urban environments, it is still thought to be a
[INSERT TITLE HERE] 3 crime that “won’t happen to me,” or “can’t happen to my child.” Awareness is the easiest method with which to begin to combat this criminal enterprise. As public knowledge is spread about this type of crime, citizens will become more and more watchful for conditions that might indicate that a young person might be a sex trafficking victim. Beyond simply increasing awareness, further efforts insist that sex trafficking victims cannot be treated by the justice system as common prostitutes or sex workers. Especially where victims are underage, or have been indoctrinated into the industry from a young age, care ought to be taken to provide aid and rehabilitation to these victims, and a community-based effort must be utilized to prevent it from continuing. As long as society allows it to happen, and there is a demand for underage sex, sex trafficking will continue to prosper.
