Water Therapy
===================================================================== ==
History of Water Therapy: ater "herapy is a very ancient method of healing the !ody. "housands of years !ack this was known as 3*sha 7aal Chikitsa4. In the mid<=>00s there was a popular revival of the water cure in urope, the *nited
7ingdom, and &merica. 8uring this time the term water cure was used synonymous with hydropathy, the term !y which hydrotherapy was known in the =>00s and early =?00s. However, the therapeutic use of water precedes this popular revival. Its use has !een recorded in ancient gyptian,;reek and 'oman civili@ations. In =A?A, there was a pu!lication !y 8r 6ames Currie ofiverpool which emphasi@es on the use of water in the treatment of fever and other illness. In olden days it was !elieved that 3&amrit4 (nectar) < !lessed water, would increase the life span. Have we ever thought an alternate meaning to this conceptB "he word &amrit is com!ination of two words. 3&am4 and 3'it4. &am means common and 'it means procedure. It is possi!le that there was a common procedure of drinking water in those days which would keep mankind healthy and free from diseases. as it water therapyB If yes then &amrit could have !een the procedure of drinking water and not necessarily the type of water. ater is the most a!undant element in our !ody. &ppro1imately A of our !ody is made of water. "his means a =00 kg person really has A kg of water. ike the arth, which is three<#uarters surrounded !y water, the !ody is three< #uarters water. So, #uite literally, all the cells in our !ody are floating in an ocean of water. "he water in our !ody contains different types of salts. e do not even reali@e the fact that this earth is identical to our !odies in respect of water. &ll the five elements of arth are present in the !ody. ike marine animals and land animals, water cells are present in the !lood as well as in the organs. It is fascinating to relate different aspects of the arth to the !ody. ike the geochemical processes that occur on arth, where the oceans regulate land temperature of different landscapes, water in our !ody distri!utes heat in the !ody. It is a vital medium in which all chemical reactions of the !ody occur. &ll the !ody processes occur due to en@ymatic reactions and @illions of reactions that occur in our !ody every second are promoted !y waterD %ost of the reactions of the !ody either involve taking in or giving out of water. 6ust like the ocean is the medium for !ulk transportation, water, in the form of !lood circulates nutrients and hormones !oth within, and !etween !ody cells. arth is the only planet we know which has life and that is !ecause of water. Similarly, we can live without food for many weeks !ut without water, we cannot e1ist !eyond a few days. 7eeping this in mind, we will discuss the purpose of water for the deto1ification of the !ody and mind. ;enerally, people have the idea that drinking plenty of fluids is sufficient to replenish water in the !ody. "he water that is taken along with the fluids is ade#uate for maintenance of the !ody. 9ut we are concerned a!out cleansing the !ody for health. e are all aware of the fact that, Ewater is lifeE and it is one of the essential elements for healthy !ody. &ll the important activities of the !ody are regulated and dependent on water. It carries all the hormones, vitamins, chemicals and o1ygen to all the parts of the !ody. It is therefore
called the 3universal solvent4 and even serves as a natural remedy for many diseases. "here are two types of to1ins that are produced in our !odies or that enter our !odies through the environment. ater solu!le and water insolu!le to1ins. "he :o! of getting rid of these two types of to1ins is assigned to two ma:or organs of the !ody. ne is the liver and other the kidneys. 7idneys flush out water solu!le to1ins with the help of water and the liver flushes out water insolu!le to1ins through the help of !ile. "he !y

"he nature of human mind is that it !elieves in comple1 things !ut not in simple, natural ways. The very nature of man's mind is to go for comple( ways to solve simple problems. In health issues too, we use very complicated drugs and procedures, which can !e used as a last resort or in emergency cases. "he truth is that drugs may never !e needed at all if one maintains good health. It is an irony that we think of the tiniest chemicals that are needed for our !ody. Hence, we give much importance to vitamins, minerals, en@ymes, hormones etc. e calculate calories, car!ohydrates, proteins and fats. However, we forget water is the ma:or ingredient of our !ody. It is this ignorance that causes many diseases. ater is the safest supplement one can take everyday to cure and prevent diseases. If this water supplement is taken regularly, perfect health can !e achieved. &ll of us know that water is good for the !ody. 9ut not many know what happens to the !ody if it does not receive its daily need of water.

ater is vital to your health. very part of your !ody is made up of cells. Protoplasm, the !asic material of living cells, is made of fats, car!ohydrates, proteins, salts, and similar elements com!ined with water. ater acts as a solvent, transporting, com!ining, and chemically !reaking down these su!stances. So, we need to drink water in order to keep our cells hydrated, to keep our !odyEs electrochemical !alance to stay alive. Les, drinking water regularly is healthful. &s someone said+ 3o man

Health in your Kitchen

+ack ground to #ncient Indian )ealing : In todayEs world NhealthN and Nhealth careN has !ecome a ma:or industry. "reatment is more a profession than compassion and medicine is a product than curing tool. Patients have !ecome customers to the medical industry. ;one are
days when medical professionals used to treat trea t out of compassion. "oday the whole domain of treatment has commercial orientation. "he treatment has !ecome so e1pensive, that it is !eyond the reach of common man. "alk of health insurance premiums that are !eing paid in the western world.
&ncient Indian method of healing said Nmedicine lies in the food one eatsN. "his statement from 'igveda an ancient scripture had profound impact on me, and I have !een studying various food articles availa!le in our kitchen and the healing
properties it has. I keep getting surprised as to how much healing material is already availa!le in our kitchen, and we seldom e1plore that. I o!served lot of people getting healed from their simple issues to chronic health issues :ust !y regularly taking these kitchen availa!le items. &nd I still keep getting surprised. &ll that is re#uired is patience and persistence. "his e1perience prompted me to add this chapter NHealth in your 7itchenN. I confess , I am not an e1pert nor a naturopath. I am simply sharing my e1perience with items availa!le in our kitchen and their healing properties. properties. In this pursuit, I met many Indian grand mothers, who had wonderful remedies for illnesses. ur grand mothers have so much knowledge, !ut does any one listen to themB I have tried to compile these remedies in simple and summarised form.
/ood is %edicine + ot :ust a few, !ut all diseases can heal with the correct diet and a!solutely no medication. Lour !ody is capa!le of handling and recovering from any ailment provided you give it the appropriate terrain to heal. Supplements may at times !e !eneficial, !ut your true medicine is food food and always has !een. "he ne1t time your !lood pressure shoots up, remem!er that your !ody is capa!le of controlling it without a trip to the ;P. Simple dietary changes can help prevent, and more importantly reverse, ailments like osteoporosis, dia!etes and even high !lood pressure without popping pills. "he !iggest hurdle most of us encounter encounter is that we fail to understand our !ody. If you put kerosene in a car that runs on petrol, the car will !reak down, the human !ody functions !etter if it consumes foods that are a !etter fit. ur !ody is mostly alkaline. & pH (potential Hydrogen) level !etween = and $.? is considered acidic, while one !etween A.= and =M is marked alkaline. "he human !ody5s natural pH level stands at A.M, A.M, making it alkaline. &ll fruits and vegeta!les, natural :uices like coconut water are alkaline, which make them a !etter nutrition fit than say animal proteins, tea, coffee, sugar, alcohol, and packaged foods that have high acidic levels. &n im!alance in pH levels, can lead to a disruption in cellular activity, causing health pro!lems that range from heart!urn to heart disease. utrients in foods do not work alone in isolation, instead they work together as as a powerhouse team in what5s called ca lled synergy. e5re often so focused on single nutrients like vitamin c and calcium, that we don5t consider that may!e it5s how these nutrients work with one another that make them so great.
"he 6ournal of utrition in 200M conducted a study on rats that were fed tomatoes and !roccoli. Prostate tumors grew less in rats fed a com!ination of tomatoes and !roccoli versus rats who were fed tomatoes and !roccoli on its own. "hey even isolated and removed the cancer fighting su!stances found in tomatoes and !roccoli and fed them to the rats, !ut they were ineffective. ineffective. "he point I5m trying to make is, a lycopene (the potent nutrient in tomatoes) supplement might !e useful, !ut the whole tomato is !etter, and that tomato with a !it of of fat is even !etter, !ut that tomato with a !it of fat and some !roccoli is so much !etter. hy e1actlyB Scientists are still unsure !ut it5s all attri!uted to food synergy.
at 'ight "o 9e Healthy + et me e1plain the point with the help of e1amples of some common diseases. steoporosis + Calcium + Calcium deficiency is not the cause of this condition. It5s a diet that5s either very rich in acidic foods or high in protein. Proteins are !roken down into amino acids which are acid yeilding. &nd so, consuming large amounts of animal protein results in the !ody e1tracting calcium from the !ones to neutralise the effect of acids. hen the lost calcium is not restored, it causes osteoporosis over a period of time. *ood solution+ at foods rich in vitamin 8 (it helps the !ody a!sor! calcium from foods), eliminate acidic foods like colas and caffeine. Include more fruits and vegeta!les in your meals. ;reen leafy veggies are rich in in itamin 7, and help re!uild !ones. 8ia!etes + Sugar is not the cause of dia!etes, rather high !lood sugar is the result of dia!etes. "he real cause of type 2 dia!etes is the presence of fats in muscle cells. 9eta cells present in the pancreas monitor the !loodstream for glucose. hen !lood sugar levels rise after meals, the !eta cells respond !y secreting insulin. Insulin helps in the further a!sorption of glucose. Consumption of unhealthy fats causes !eta cells to lose their a!ility to sense glucose in the !lood, allowing !lood sugar to rise unnaturally. *ood solution+ &void unhealthy fats found in fried foods, packaged foods, !utter, meat, whole fat dairy products, and most vegeta!le oils. &ny fat that comes with fi!re is good for you. "hink peanuts, cashew, and sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds. &cne + ating + ating processed foods increases im!alance of mega< fats in the diet and aggravate acne. mega< fats are known to counter the effect of inflammatory chemicals that lead to !reakouts. *ood solution+ Have a diet that5s low on sugar and rich in whole grains, fi!re,
fruits and vegeta!les. It will !alance the !ody5s insulin levels. ;o for mega< rich walnuts, fla1seeds, spinach and straw!erries. &void fried and greasy foods. High !lood pressure + 9lood pressure is the force e1< erted against the walls of the arteries as !lood flows through them. If a person has high !lood pressure, it means that the walls of the arteries are receiving too much pressure repeatedly. Consumption of unhealthy fats leads to a !uild up of cholesterol deposits along the artery walls, thinning the passage for !lood flow, and there!y adding to the pressure. *ood solution+ &dopt a two
%aintain the !alance of food Choose your food wisely. "he higher the pH value, the !etter it is for the !ody. &lso worth noting that = point shift in level is =0 times intensity, meaning pH is =0 times more acidic than pHM, and =00 times than pH. ike wise for &lkaline food. Colas - Soda have average pH level . 'ule of thum! is to keep your average food at pHA level.
"here is a good !it of talk a!out foods !eing alkaline these days. %any new diets or deto1 plans, or nutrition we!sites enforce a topic known as alkalinity (and also charge you handsomely for it). &lkalinity is the opposite of acidic. "he pH scale measures the difference !etween alkaline and acid !ased su!stances, including food. /or e1ample, chocolate and coffee are acidic while leafy greens and lemons are e1tremely alkaline. hat does this matterB &n alkaline !ody is one of the !est ways to achieve health. & healthy !ody is more than :ust a!out your weight. hen the !ody is alkaline !ased, optimum weight will !e achieved, effortlessly. hen you take into account how a food affects your whole !ody (skin, mood, hair,
:oints), then you can stop focusing so much on your weight. hen our !odies !ecome acidic, we e1perience an array of symptoms from inflammation, indigestion, fatigue, nausea, weight gain, headaches, sour mood, dry and sallow or oily skin, !rittle or dry hair, and often digestive woes like constipation or poor digestion overall. "oo much consumption of acidic foods tends to make our !odies :ust cave in, like they want to give up on the effort of going any further. "hey also make us crave food !ecause our cells arenEt !eing nourished on a deep level. &lkaline foods on the other hand, act like a flushing of pure water through our cells that re:uvenate us, energi@e us, give us youthful skin, !alance our weight, lu!ricate our :oints and make our skin, hair and nails !eautiful. "his is why the raw food diet is so popular< it is !ased on alkalinity and raw foods are the !est source for alkaline sources. hile I donEt eat a raw diet, I do truly value alkaline foods !ecause I can tell a ma:or difference when I eat alkaline versus too much acidic foods. In ancient Indian scriptures, food has !een classified in categories. Satvik food with pH value a!ove ?. 'a:asi food with pH value !etween $ < ?. "amasi food with pH value !elow $. /or healthy !ody one should have >0 of the total food a!ove pH value of A and 20 of the total food !elow pH value of A.
Colour your plate right "he !est way to ensure that your diet is !alanced is to colour code it. Pigmentation is what lends colour to fruits and vegeta!les, and also contains healthy nutrients. "he deeper the colour, the higher the percentage of a specific nutrient the food item has. Purple coloured foods like plums and au!ergines have phytochemicals called anthocyanins and resveratrol that fight ageing, reduce !lood pressure and protect the !ody against liver diseases. range
cells healthy. 'ed foods like tomatoes and watermelons contain the powerful antio1idant lycopene which acts as an internal sunscreen and protects you from sun!urn, prevents osteoporosis and heart diseases. ;reens such as peas, !roccoli and spinach are packed with sulforaphane, isothiocyanate, and indoles which stimulate the liver to keep cancer producing chemicals in check. &lways choose real foods over processed foods. If the food didn5t grow in a garden or a farm, then it5s not a real food. "his means choose the potato over the potato chips. at an orange rather than drink orange :uice. at fruit instead of fruit snacks. 8iversify your food. &lways aim for eating a variety of foods and colors. hole foods vary in color !ecause they all possess their own uni#ue set of nutrients. Choose foods with !right colors and you5ll !e sure to get a wide range of needed nutrients for disease prevention, optimal performance, high energy, and clear thinking.

Concentration has !een defined as Nthe a!ility to direct oneEs thinking in whatever direction one would intend and reproduce at appropriate time.4 e all have the a!ility to concentrate some of the time. 9ut at other times our thoughts are scattered, and our minds race from one thing to another. "o deal with such times, we need to learn and practice concentration skills and strategies. Human mind has two segments. Conscious mind which takes decisions and interacts with environment. Su! Conscious mind which is storage. Concentration is toggling of data !etween these two segments of mind. Concentration is a!ility of 'etention (data moving from conscious to su! conscious mind) and 'ecall (data moving from su! conscious to conscious mind). "he data moves in electro magnetic form, hence this paper aims at facilitating !etter toggling of data. 6unk food, aerated drinks, alcohol, artificial sweetners, maida(super fine wheat flour) reduces power to concentrate significantly, hence avoida!le.

%edically speaking, constipation usually is defined as fewer than three !owel movements per week. Severe constipation is defined as less than one !owel movement per week.
