Lily Skunk is wandering around through Ms. Hoot’s garden. Narrator: When Lily Skunk was just a little skunk she loved to visit Ms. Hoot’s garden. Lily: Your garden is so beautiful Ms. Hoot! Ms. Hoot: Thank you, Lily. Lily. It is wonderful to have a garden, but it’s it’s also a lot of work!
Lily and Ms. Hoot exit stage. Narrator: There were were so many delicious delicious vegetables there. there. Lily decided it would be nice if she too had a garden.
Lily and Mom Skunk enter stage talking Lily: I sure wish we had a vegetable garden like Ms. Hoot’s. Mom: Me too, Lily. Lily. But planting a garden takes takes a lot of time and effort. You have to fix the dirt, plant the seeds, then weed and water almost every day. I bet I’d end up doing doing most of the work work and I’m just too busy right now . Lily (almost in in tears): But I really, really, really want a garden! I’ll do ALL the work, I promise!
Narrator comes onstage, Lily and Mom continue to “talk”.
Narrator: Lily’s mom wasn’t convinced that she would would take full responsibility for a garden all on her own. Narrator (to audience): What do you all think? Would Lily take care of a whole vegetable garden on her own? (Wait for audience’s response.) Narrator: Lily was determined determined to make her her dream garden come true so she wrote out this note to her mom:
Narrator stands to the side. Lily reading note to auidence: Dear Mom, If you will let me have a garden here’s what I will do: grow vegetables, water and weed, and get my brother Stink to help. Here’s what you will will get: Not much much work and yummy yummy veggies. Love, Lily.
Lily walks off stage, leaving note on desk. Narrator: First thing that that morning Lily’s Lily’s mom found the note and realized how serious Lily was about her garden.
Lily and Mom walk onstage, Mom holding note. Mom: I can see that you want the garden garden very badly. If you promise you will do most of the work and we get to eat from the garden, I would say your plan is is a win-win. When did you want want to get started? Lily: Right now!
Mom, Lily, Stink, and Dad use tools to begin work on the garden. Dad sets up the scarecrow scarecrow and Lily Lily shows Stink Stink what to do. Narrator: Lily worked very hard, with Stink by her side….most of the time.
Stink exits stage wiping his head and Lily keeps working. Narrator: She took great care of her garden, making sure that all the weeds were out and everything stayed stayed watered. Soon there were little plants popping up everywhere. everywhere.
Stage hands put “plants” into garden. Narrator: The whole family was soon able to enjoy Lily’s vegetable garden throughout the summer and she continued to work hard with Stink to keep it in ship shape.
Mom enters. enters. Lily and mom admire admire garden. garden.
Mom to Lily: It looks like all your your hard work has paid paid off, Lily! Maybe next year I should have a flower garden? Lily: I couldn’t have done it without your your help mom, or Stink’s! I am so happy you all can enjoy it! Just remember though, if you have a flower garden it’s A LOT of work!
Exit stage. Questions: Why was Lily’s Lily’s mom worried? worried? How did Lily convince her mom to go along with with her plan? Why was this situation situation a win-win? Why is it important to make others happy as well as yourself?
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood “Think Before You Talk” Jumper and the Lost Butterfly Net Characters: Jumper Goob Tagalong Allie Lily Skunk Props: Butterfly net Log Big sweater for Allie Goob is sitting on a log facing the crowd, very sad, shoulders slumped. Jumper comes comes hopping, happily happily onto onto the stage. stage. Narrator: One day Jumper came hopping along and saw Goob, who looked very sad, sitting sitting on a log. Goob had lost his butterfly butterfly net and didn’t want to go anywhere because he was so upset. Jumper: Please come with with me me to Fish-Eye Lake Goob! It’s a beautiful day! Come on, let’s let’s go!
Jumper starts jumping around Goob. Goob (angrily): (angrily): No! You talk to much, move too much, and you don’t listen! You just have fun without me. me. Jumper (happily): OK! See you later!
Jumper hops away from Goob. Narrator: Jumper hopped off, leaving leaving Goob behind. Soon Jumper Jumper rounded the corner, finding Tagalong Taga long Allie. Tagalong Allie (loudly): WAH!! WAh!! Jumper: Allie? What’s wrong? Tagalong Allie: Me thweter thweter back woods.
Jumper: Huh? Huh? You want to get wet? Ok, let’s let’s go swimming! Tagalong Allie (shaking her head): WAH!! WAH!! WAH!! ME THWETER THWETER BACK WOODS! Jumper (to audience): audience): What did she say? Oh, she wants to play in the woods! Ok thanks! Tagalong Allie (kicking and screaming): ME THWETER BACKWOOOOOOOOODS! Jumper (to (to audience): audience): Can you help me? me? What is is she saying? Narrator: Lucky for Allie and Jumper, Lily Skunk is walking by.
Lily Skunk comes walking from out of her house. Lily: What in Pete’s sake is going on, on, Jumper? I could hear Allie Allie screaming from my house. Lily (to Allie): What’s the matter? Tagalong Allie: ME THWETER BACK WOODS! Lily (inspecting at Allie’s sweater): sweater): Oh! You said your sweater sweater is on backwards.
Lily helps Tagalong Allie fix her sweater. Jumper: How’d you figure that out? Lily: You have to listen with your heart and your eyes, not just your ears, Jumper (pointing (pointing to each). Didn’t you see that her sweater was was on backwards? Jumper: No, I guess it passed right by me. Oh, no! I gotta go go see Goob! Tagalong Allie: Wait fur meeeee!
Jumper and Tagalong Allie run back to Goob. Narrator: Jumper ran off to find find Goob with Allie Allie close on his heels. heels. They soon found Goob lying over the same log he was sitting on earlier, looking as sad as ever. Jumper: I can see that you are really really upset, Goob. Sorry I didn’t listen listen with my ears, eyes, eyes, and heart earlier. earlier. Can I help you look look for your lost…what was it?
Goob: My most favorite thing thing ever: ever: my butterfly net! net! It’s nowhere, nowhere, I have looked high and low. Tagalong Allie tugging tugging at Jumper: Jumper: Wiwee’s Wiwee’s twee. Jumper: Huh? Tagalong Allie: Butterfwy Butterfwy net net by Wiwee’s twee! twee! Jumper: I get it! it! Your net is by the the Great Oak Tree Tree by Lily’s house! house! Tagalong Allie (excitedly): Yeth! Yeth! Narrator: The threesome made made their way to the Great Oak Tree and there right where he had left it, was Goob’s net. Goob to Jumper: How’d you figure out what Allie was saying? Jumper: I listened with my eyes and heart, not just my ears. Questions: What did Jumper Jumper do when Goob told him he was sad? The 7 Habits of Happy Kids Habit 6: Synergize-Together is Better The Big Bad Badgers Characters: Biggest Badger Goob Pokey Tagalong Allie Jumper Props: Soccer Ball 2 Goals Sign showing “Uncle Bud’s Park” Flowers Bad Badgers on one side of stage, the friends on the other, narrator speaking in center. Narrator: On Saturdays, the friends get together to play soccer at Uncle Bud’s Park. Sometimes they would have a game with with anyone who showed up. But one day…the Big Big Bad Badgers came to the park. Biggest Badger (to friends): friends): Wanna play soccer? soccer? We’ll beat you, but we’ll play you ‘cause there’s no on else here.
Friends huddle together. Goob: They’ll squash us like bugs! Pokey: Yeah, I’m outta here. Lily: I’m going home to paint. Sophie: Wait! They may look look big and scary but we have more experience. We can beat them! them! And Jumper will will score lots lots of points! Jumper: We’ll show them who’s boss! Narrator: It took some work, but Sophie and Jumper convinced the others to play. But before the friends friends could even get together, the Badgers had already scored three points. The game had just begun,
but the Badgers were were already bored. bored. Jumper was trying trying to shoot but no one would pass to him… Jumper stands near goal with angry face trying to get team’s attention. Jumper: Come on guys! Narrator:…Lily stopped to pick flowers… Lily picks up flowers. Narrator:…Pokey fell asleep… Pokey lays down to take a nap. Narrator:…and Allie scored a point, but for the other team! Allie stands near other goal looking embarrassed. embarrassed.
Jumper: Time out! I need to talk to my team! The friends stand around one another. Jumper: We can still still win this! They may be bigger and stronger, but we can beat them if we play LIKE A TEAM and use our strengths! The friends: YEAH! Jumper to the Badgers: Stick around, we’re we’re back in the game. Biggest Badger Nothing’s gonna change, you’ll see. Narrator: But what the Badgers didn’t know was that each friend would be tapping into their their talents. Pokey would used his his quills to scare the other team, Sammy used his tail, Lily used her head, and Jumper kicked the ball into the goal! Everyone was getting getting really excited as the points points kept rolling in. The next time time they had the ball, ball, they tried a similar play, but the Badgers were guarding Jumper like he was gold. Sammy saw little little Allie just out the corner of her her eye. Allie: Me, me, meeeeee! Narrator: Sammy passes the ball to Allie who shoots the ball right between the legs of the Biggest Badger, right to the goal…for the winning point! Everyone: WE WON! Hooray for Allie!
Team begins to high five one another and also the other team. Badger’s captain walks over to the friends. Badger’s Captain: Good game, you guys were better than I thought! Jumper: Thanks! Let’s play again sometime. Badger’s Captain: Sure, as long as Allie plays on our team!
