FDD LTE eNodeB (V2.10) Commissioning Procedure
1
Overview
1.1
Purpose
Internal Use Only▲
This document discusses the commissioning of FDD LTE eNodeBs in different scenarios, in particular, the general procedure and the tasks in each step. It is designed to improve capability and efficiency of the commissioning engineers.
Knowledge:
The eNodeB commissioning process involves several operations, including downloading and installation of eNodeB software and configuration data files through the EMS or the LMT, device debugging, service verification, and acceptance test. The objective of this process is to ensure the eNodeB to be put into commercial use as designed.
1.2
Application This document involves the eNodeB commissioning process only, which starts from “preparing the table of eNodeB sites and their IP addresses”, and ends when the acceptance test is passed. In the process, the following tasks may be included:
1.3
Prepare the table of eNodeB sites and their IP addresses
Install the eNodeB version and set the IP addresses
Debugging the CC board in the warehouse
Install and power on the eNodeB device
Debug the eNodeB device
Verify the services
Conduct the acceptance test
Acronyms and Abbreviations For the purpose of this document, the acronyms and abbreviations in Table 1-1 apply.

eNodeB Commissioning Method The commissioning of an eNodeB involves several aspects, including the downloading and activating of board software and configuration data files. The validity of configuration data files is almost independent of hardware configuration, while the validity of board software is closely related to hardware configuration.
2.1
Brief Introduction Currently, there are three commissioning methods, as described below.
Remote commissioning through the EMS In this method, the production line has installed the addresses. And before the commissioning, the eNodeB and the EMS is through, and the eNodeB the commissioning personnel do not need to go to the eNodeBs just uploading the configuration data EMS in the central equipment room.
eNodeB version and set the IP IP transmission between the device works well. As a result, the site. They can commission onto the eNodeBs through the
Warehouse debugging and remote commissioning through the EMS If the production line cannot finish IP address planning before the eNodeB device is delivered, they can pack the CC boards and deliver them to the site warehouse. After the CC boards arrive, the commissioning personnel can debug the CC boards in the warehouse, including downloading the eNodeB version to the CC boards and setting the IP addresses. During eNodeB commissioning, the commissioning personnel need not to go to the site. They can commission the eNodeBs through the EMS in the central equipment room.

If neither the eNodeB version is installed, nor IP addresses are set before the eNodeB devices arrive at the sites, the commissioning personnel have to go to the site and use the LMT to commission the eNodeB by upgrading the eNodeB versions and uploading the configuration data. And after the commissioning is ready, they operate in the central equipment room and set up links between the EMS and the eNodeBs. The three methods and their procedures are shown in Figure 2-1.

To save the time and cost, the remote commissioning through the EMS method is recommended if the conditions are allowed. The onsite commissioning method is only applicable to the new sites and swapped sites in the following cases when remote commissioning is not available: 1.
The production line has not installed the eNodeB version or set the IP, or the delivered version is not the target version.
2.
The debugging of the CC board cannot be done when the board is in the warehouse. As a result, the eNodeB version cannot be downloaded to the CC boards and the IP addresses cannot be set.
The following sections describe these procedures in details.

Remote Commissioning through EMS This commissioning method is applied when the production line has installed the eNodeB version and set the IP. The procedure is shown in Figure 3-1.
