Factory Design Suite

User Assets Library It’s important to be able to populate the library with user specific assets. Let’s create one!

1. Open the Import Asset function in Inventor Factory Ribbon. Ribbon: Get Started >Factory Launch > Create Asset > Import Asset

Select the \ FDS HandsOn\1.AssetCreation\ Robot Controller.ipt file and click Open. The model is loaded into the Asset Builder. Hands-on: Factory Design Suite 2013

2. Open the Landing Surface function. Ribbon: Asset Builder > Author > Landing Surface

Select the bottom surface of the machine enclosure to define it as the landing surface.

In the Landing Surface dialog, click Select Insertion Point and select the two points marked. Click OK to confirm the changes.

3. Open the Define Connector function. Ribbon: Asset Builder > Author > Define Connector

Select the center of the left-hand edge as the insertion point.

Select the red direction arrow and click the left-hand vertical edge of the box to define alignment.

Select the blue arrow and select a vertical edge on the model. The blue arrow now points upwards.

Press [ENTER] to close the command. 4. Create a second connector in the same way. 5. Open the Asset Variants function. Ribbon: Asset Builder > Author > Asset Variants

Select the Width parameters and click the >> button.

Using the + button, create three variants with the following values and click OK to close the dialog.

6. Open the Asset Properties function. Ribbon: Asset Builder > Author > Asset Properties

On the General tab, enter Title Robot Controller and Company Autodesk and click OK to confirm your entry.

7. Save the design. 8. Open the Publish Asset function. Ribbon: Asset Builder > Publish > Publish Asset

Enter asset name Robot Controller and select a destination directory. Click OK to confirm your entry.

9. Close the part.

Architectural functionality No production plant without a building. Therefore, Autocad Architecture is included in Factory Design Suite. Let’s complete the building

1. Open the file < FDS-ROOT>\FDS HandsOn\2.ACADALayout\ Overall.dwg 2. Open the Design Tool Palette. Ribbon: Home > Build > Tools Flyout > Design Tools

3. Enable object snap by pushing F3 If not already disabled. 4. Look at plan view and orientate the view as shown.

5. Select the Wall type from the Design ribbon tab.

6. Give the Wall Base height of 7000mm from the Properties palette.

7. Start drawing a wall from the top outer wall to the lower outer wall. Press F8 to enable ortho mode in order to draw a perfect vertical line.

8. Autocad Architectural will merge the wall with the existing outer walls. 9. Select the Opening type from the Design ribbon tab.

10. Place the opening by selecting the wall and position the opening.

11. Give the Opening width of 6000mm and Height of 4500mm from the Properties palette.

12. Place some extra doors and windows the same way.

13. Select the home view to see the building in 3D.

15. In the Home tab, select Simulate Layer state

Create a New Welding Cell 17. Type XREF in the command line to launch External References Manager 18. Attach new XREF “NEW welding cell - mm.dwg” to the drawing

19. Use Xref import settings as shown

20. Then position the “New Cell” as shown below

21. Select the outline of the New Cell (1). 22. Click the Open Reference command on the Context Ribbon (2).

23. Activate the Factory Asset Browser by selecting the Palettes flyout on the Factory Ribbon and Click Asset Browser.

24. Erase text and hatching from the Xref. 25. Open the Favorite folder in the Asset Browser

26. Drag and drop Assets from the Asset Library into the layout as shown below

27. RMB click on asset TD Arm Welding Clamp 48 and select Asset Variant 28. Select Double

30. Enable object snap by hitting F3 if not active yet. 31. Select Safety Fence (Chain) asset in library

32. Make a polyline by selecting the3 corners of the blue rectangle and type “C”

33. Type “Elevation” command and set to 3500mm 34. Select Cable Tray (Chain) asset in library

36. Click the Sync Inventor Command.

37. Click OK on the dialog that displays.

38. Click Yes on the Save Notification is necessary.

39. The Inventor application will launch and create a 3D version of your 2D layout. 40. Let’s wait 15sec….this is what you’ll get

41. Select Robot 7th Axis asset in library

42. Connect the Robot positioning table to the frame connector as shown below

55. Select the first straight conveyor and change length to 3500mm; Enter

57. Insert \FDSHandsOn\2.ACADALayout\ Overhead robotics system.iam using Insert Model button

59. Select XY and select green check mark to confirm position. 60. Model should look like image below

61. On the Factory Ribbon, Click the Sync AutoCAD command.

62. If prompted to Save the file, Select Yes and Ok to any dialog prompts.

63. Click Yes when prompted to open the File in AutoCAD.

64. The New Cell Autocad Xref will be updated with all 3D changed made

Material Flow 68. Open the application AutoCAD Architecture. 69. Open the file \FDSHandsOn\2.ACADALayout\ Overall.dwg 70. Open the Material Flow Browser. Ribbon: Factory > Tools > Palettes Flyout > Material Flow

71. Activate the Stations ribbon tab. Right-click inside the window and open the Create function.

73. Select the new welding cell Xref as the object and enter 74. Select a position for the connector point as shown below. A blue dot will appear.
