TIPS & ADVICE ADVICE
The following are ideas and suggestions for getting the most out of Electric Touch Plus byYigal Mesika. Some of these ideas will be touched on and taught by Yigal in the main Electric Touch Touch Manual, but we thought we w e would divulge some of our touches and ideas that have come from our brainstorming sessions inspired by ET+.
Basic Ideas
Basic Ideas Mind Read Transference
The classic and most obvious use of the ET+ is to use it as a tangible moment to explain a transference of thought. When you read someone’s mind, there actually isn’t a moment that it happens. This is why some performers act and give the impression they are receiving little bits of information over a period of time. With ET+, you can actually give the spectators a moment in time when the thought transference happens. You can act like you have just received the thought and say it to your spectator. This can literally knock a spectator ’s socks off as they won’t have any time to adjust to the fact that you are reading their mind; you simply had it transfer in a moment when they touched you, no more justifying is needed; they felt it happen.
Here are some ideas for routines that you can think about:
Basic Ideas
Forcing Items It is possible to force a spectator to think of a certain card or number, or even word. There are many ways to do this which we cannot touch on now, but we can certainly talk candidly about the ideas you should be thinking about using in conjunction with Yigal Mesika’s ET+.
Basic Ideas
Forcing Cards There are literally hundreds of ways to influence a spectator with a deck of cards, there are also plenty of psychological forces you can use with playing cards.
Basic Ideas
Forcing Words There are lots of sources of information within the magic community about forcing a word on a spectator. You can influence spectators using books, magazines or even words written on cards. This is impressive as all the items are extremely natural and found everywhere.
Basic Ideas
Forcing Props There are many props you can use for forcing. Force bags, iPhones, gaffed decks, watches; they all are powerful utilities that will take all of the work out of the equation for you so you can focus on performance.
Basic Ideas
Realtime Retrieval of Information
Forcing items is enjoyable as you are miles ahead. However for a truly free choice that is only limited by your spectators, you will need to retrieve the information during the process of performing the routine. This is the way to go if you wish to hit a home run with your mind reading. Because every spectator is different and if no one sees what they have written, to them the thought only exists in their head.
Basic Ideas
Impression Device A device like this can be used to have a spectator write a word, number or even draw a straightforward drawing. You will then be able to know exactly what they have written. Used well, these devices can genuinely convince a spectator that you have the ability to reach inside their mind.
Basic Ideas
Centre Tear
This is a fantastic utility you can learn to obtain information secretly; there are many versions, some you instantly get the information and some you will secretly obtain the information in order to peek at it later. This is a perfect skill to learn for on the fly performances as all you need is a pen and piece of paper.
Basic Ideas
Peek Wallets
There are literally hundreds of different peek wallets on the market each has a variation on another, some have multiple peeks; some have only one that is exceptionally good. A good thing about a peek wallet is that it can be on you at all times; a good peek wallet as well shouldn’t draw any attention to it; it should look natural like any wallet.
Basic Ideas
Using Yigal Mesika’s ET+ as that ‘magic moment’ As well as using it to frame the moment a thought transfers why not use it as a way of framing the moment some magic happens.
Basic Ideas
Card Change in Spectator’s Hand A card is selected, and an indifferent card is shown and placed in the spectator’s hands. As you prepare you build the tension and touch the spectator’s hand, they instantly feel the energy zap them, and you tell them to look at the card in between their hands once again, it is now their selection.
Basic Ideas
Coin Vanish A coin is unmistakably placed into your hand; the spectator is asked to tap your closed fist where they instantly feel ‘something’. You slowly open your hand to show the coin is no longer there.
Basic Ideas
Watch Steal If you are at all interested in pickpocketing, you will have studied the watch steal. Imagine performing a watch steal and secretly placing their watch on your own wrist without the spectator’s seeing, already this is a fantastic trick. If however, you use ET+ you will be able to make this great trick a brilliant piece of magic. Have the spectator point a finger towards you and as you touch their finger, again creating that ‘moment’ in which the magic happens. You now have an instant transferral of their watch from their wrist to yours.
Basic Ideas
Ring Vanish Very similar to the coin vanish of course, but great to be used in conjunction with any Ring Flight routine or even as a final vanish of the ring from a ring on string routine.
Real Magic
Use ET+ as a way of ‘selling the idea of magic’ to your spectators. Electric Touch Plus is capable of making you seem like you have a ‘power’ that a lot of people believe in but extremely few have ever seen in the flesh. A bit like psychics, a lot of people believe in them, but not many have met one or gone to a psychic fair for a reading. Something this prop-less and pure can leave your spectators with nowhere to go but to think you have learned some strange things in your life, or maybe have been born with a strange power. When something like ET+ comes along there is a reason why all the world’s top magical performers stand up and listen. Card tricks, sleight of hand and mis-directional magic can be received differently to other magic tricks like a levitation or mind reading, even close up magic with everyday props. A spectator knows when they are being fooled by a skilled performer; it doesn’t mean they know how it is done or aren’t entertained, they can appreciate it for what it is, a great display of skill and deception. Spectators will say things like, ‘Wow, you have fast hands’ or ‘When did you do that, I didn’t see you do that at all!’. These, although meant as compliments, really explain that the spectator understands you have misdirected them or ‘fooled’ them, but it doesn’t leave them with a feeling of utter astonishment.
In this day and age it is hard to get people to believe in magic, a prop like Electric Touch Plus by Yigal Mesika could change that, or at least leave a skeptic seriously questioning what he or she has just witnessed. It is that powerful; you literally are summoning power from the Earth. ET+ can be used in conjunction with other effects as well, a few examples o f this would be
Omni Deck Imagine placing a deck of cards in the spectator’s hands and them feeling the moment they turned into a clear block. You could combine Electric Touch with an Omni Deck
Coin Bend A premise could be that you hold their hand, which has the coin in it, and you state that you are charging them up, and they will feel it bend in their hand. If they say they feel the coin bend or even if they don’t you can at this point (as you will have charged them up) ask them to touch another person and that person will feel the zap, this will confirm everything that you are saying and make the coin bend more believable as magic.
Spoon Bending this could be a terrific addition to any spoon bend routine as you can at any point during your routine charge the spoon so you can ask a spectator to touch the spoon and they will feel the charge.
Coin Unique If you are confident with a coin unique it is possible to get the spectator to hold the coins. It is possible to do this by nesting the gimmick with one hand whilst you close their hand with your other (owners of coin unique should understand this). If you then claim you will remove one of the coins from their hand you can use ET+ to frame that moment. After they feel the charge, you can ask them to open their hand to reveal only one coin left.
Simply Summoning Power You would be amazed how well this actually goes down, simply you are just using the ET+ to charge spectators and ‘zap’ them. It does depend on your audience; a younger audience is perfect, older audiences, not so much! However, simply put all you are doing is asking a spectator to touch you, and they can feel nothing, arrange them to stand where you want and begin to patter about harnessing energy from the earth and sky (whatever patter line suits you). Ask them to hold a finger out, (you can even move their hand to where you want if you are not charged up) and begin to focus on their finger tip, activate the ET+ so you are charged up and slowly reach up and touch their finger with yours. They will instantly feel the electro static shock and the reaction will be strong, remember to pick your audience member wisely as we cannot be held responsible if you zap the wrong person! What you will find is that this works amazingly well on a younger crowd, in bars and nightclubs, what you will find is that more and more people become curious and what to feel it themselves. This is all about the anticipation so do not rush to zap them, build it up slowly and deliberately, the bigger the build up and anticipation the bigger the reaction from everyone.
Funkenring Shocker Gag This is a devilishly funny gag, but also can be extremely worrying so don’t rush out to try it on your parents! If you own a Funkenring, you already know the immense fun you can have with people pretending to get shocked, the sparks that fly out are a real visual shocker (excuse or embrace that pun, it is your choice!). If you tie this in with the ET+ you can ask someone to touch your finger as you reach for a light switch or TV or anything that uses electricity. As soon as they touch you and get zapped you activate the Funkenring and sparks will fly out of your other hand. This will get a huge shock reaction and people won’t know what has just happened, depending on how you portray it you can use it as a gag or pretend to have actually been electrocuted and act very spaced out as if you don’t know what has happened. Please do bear in mind though that this is remarkably convincing so use it wisely.
MoveMint & ET+ Paul Harris Presents has released MoveMint. It’s a cunning device that allows you to move a mint apparently with your mind. As your hand hovers above the mint, it comes to life and spins, flips and moves on its own. You can offer an ‘explanation to the spectators. You claim that the power you use, builds up in your hands. Ask them if they would like to experience it for themselves. If they agree. Have them touch your hand as you hover over the mint.
Moving Confetti or Tobacco Reveal Yigal Mesika uses ET+ to move tobacco or confetti on a table. Why not use it to make a reveal? Before you perform secretly add something sticky to your table top in a shape of a card value like a 9 and a diamond. You can use something sugar based instead of glue based for this; you need the table to be tacky in this area so confetti or tobacco will stick to it, but it is very good to have something that is water soluble. A strong solution of sugar water should suffice, or a brand of full sugar soft drink (you can use a cotton bud to apply it) should work. Test your solution before performing to make sure the item you use sticks to it and will not be attracted off of it by the ET +.
Now all you need to do is force a card, in this case the Nine of Diamonds. Spread some confetti or tobacco on the table over the area you have written the solution on and make sure you pat down the confetti or tobacco so it sticks to the solution. Now all you need to do is ask the spectator to focus on the confetti or tobacco as you activate the ET+ and gesture over the loose items to make them move and shift around. The loose bits will move away and the stuck bits will begin to form the revelation. When the spectators are reacting to the movement and the revelation is obvious enough draw attention to it. To clean up all you need to do is brush the loose items off the table and act as if there is nothing unusual about the table, instead have them focus on your hands by emphasizing there is nothing there.
Final Thoughts So here are some elaborations on ideas from Yigal Mesika that the DVD teaches and some other food for thought when using your ET+. Really, this device is so powerful if used correctly you can truly begin to change people’s beliefs or at least cause them to question how they look at the world. Just for a moment think about that last sentence, you can change their beliefs or cause them to question how they look at the world. This is the stuff dreams are made of; this is why we all perform magic, to leave a positive and mysterious impression on people. So please enjoy your ET+ we know we will enjoy using ours.
