Doesn’t need adjusting often Very quiet Oil Lower rpm maybe Use in most new cars

3.Roller type Valve lifter/tappet          

Mechanical or hydraulic lifter Out performs flat Has a wheel that spins Reduces friction Higher rpm Reusable Higher spring loads Less wear Consistent today’s oil

Problems with lifters  

Hydraulic A. valvetrain will rattle loudly on startup B.pump up

Mechanical A. Needs adjusting too much
