1. PENDAHULUAN Permasalahan yang sering terjadi pada peralatan Steam Turbine adalah kontaminasi steam dengan minyak pelumas bearing (oil lubricant). Kondisi ini menyebabkan kualitas pelumas tersebut menjadi turun/rusak sama sekali sehingga sistim pelumasan pada bearing tidak terjadi dan bearing menjadi rusak.

HIGH PRESSURE STEAM Masuknya steam ke rumah bearing (bearing housing) dimungkinkan karena standard pengesilan pada peralatan Steam Turbine umumnya hanya menggunakan Carbon Bushing yang dipasang/menempel pada casing Steam Turbine dan labyrinth yang dipasang pada bearing housing.

Carbon Bushing di peralatan Steam Tubine lambat laun akan menyebabkan kerusakan pada shaft turbin (scratch) sehingga bocoran steam membesar akibat clearance yang membesar (steam loss). Steam yang bocor tersebut akhirnya masuk ke rumah bearing karena labyrinth yang berfungsi untuk menahan bocoran tersebut juga memiliki keterbatasan pengesilan (adanya clearance pada labyrinth yang standardnya 0.025” s/d 0.035”). Kontaminasi steam (H2O) dengan oli pelumas akan membentuk sludge sehingga sebagaimana yang terjadi pada Carbon bushing, clearance di labyrinth juga lambat laun membesar sehingga volume steam yang masuk ke ruang bearing juga menjadi lebih banyak. Kerusakan standard pada peralatan steam turbine secara berurutan adalah sebagai berikut : 1. Kerusakan shaft akibat gerusan dari carbon bushing (clearance membesar) – volume bocoran steam membesar. 2. Kerusakan labyrinth di bearing housing – terjadi kontaminasi steam dengan pelumas. 3. Point 1 dan 2 menyebabkan kerusakan bearing akibat kualitas pelumas yang menurun. 4. Point 3 menyebabkan kerusakan rotor assy akibat posisi rotor yang turun atau vibrasi yang berlebihan. Kondisi ini akan terus terjadi (repetitive failure) dan menurunkan reliability (kehandalan) steam turbine tersebut karena diperlukan perbaikan (stop unit).    

Penggantian Carbon Bushing, labyrinth, bearing yang rusak. Perbaikan shaft yang tergores (scratch) baik pada posisi carbon bushing maupun labyrinth. Perbaikan rumah labyrinth (posisi dimana labyrinth terpasang). Di beberapa kasus bahkan diperlukan penggantian rotor assy (menjadi rusak dan berbiaya lebih mahal) akibat rusaknya bearing.

2. MENINGKATKAN KEHANDALAN STEAM TURBINE Seandainya lebih dicermati maka ujung dari permasalahan (Root Cause) yang diterangkan di atas adalah akibat kurang sempurnanya ‘sistim sealing’ (pengesilan) pada 2 (dua) area pengesilan yaitu di Carbon Bushing dan labyrinth. John Crane sebagai perusahaan pembuat sistim sealing terkemuka di dunia memiliki produk sealing untuk steam turbine yaitu : 

Dry Gas Seal (DGS) Type 28 ST, merupakan mechanical seal (non contacting seal) sebagai pengganti carbon bushing assy. Type 28 ST bekerja menggunakan steam proses (dari dalam casing) sebagai sealing media (tidak diperlukan injeksi gas dari luar). Teknologi yang digunakan pada Type 28 ST ini adalah sama dengan teknologi DGS pada centrifugal gas compressor. Dengan memasang DGS Type 28 ST maka volume kebocoran steam menjadi berkurang secara signifikan sehingga tidak lagi terjadi kontaminasi steam dengan pelumas bearing.



Bearing Protector (Isomag), merupakan mechanical seal sebagai pengganti labyrinth yang terpasang pada bearing housing. Bearing protector ini memiliki contact face sehingga mampu

Sealing Systems for Steam Turbine mencegah ‘in leakage’ (steam dari luar masuk ke rumah bearing) dan ‘out leakage’ (oli pelumas dari rumah bearing bocor ke atmosphere). Baring protector tidak memiliki clearance seperti labyrinth seal sehingga kemampuan pengesilannya jauh lebih baik. DRY GAS SEAL TYPE 28 ST (STEAM TURBINE)

5. PENUTUP Dengan strategi meng-upgrade sealing system pada Steam Turbine diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kehandalan peralatan yang sekaligus akan meningkatkan keuntungan komersial bagi kilang Pertamina RU-4 Cilacap.
