MINI-DOZER ASSEMBLY (MD120 (MD1200 0 & MD1600 Series) Unpacking the Kit: Care must be exercised in unpacking the Kit to avoid bending or scratching the various components. As the parts are unpacked, unpac ked, lay them out out neatly and and check the parts against the the enclosed Parts List. Lis t. Notify us immediately of any shortages. shortages . Setting up for Assembly: It is best to set the Body in an upright position on the edges of two saw-horses or on top top of a crate. This will allow you yo u to easily wor k around around and underneath the Tractor. NOT E: The directions 'Left 'Left & Righ t' and 'Upper & Lower' referred to in the following instructions are determined by standing behind the Dozer and looking forward. 'Inside' refers to the the side side of a part which is closest clo sest to an imaginary imaginary center line line running down the length length of the Dozer Do zer . 'Outside' refers r efers to the side farthest farthest from the above defined center line. (Remove (Remove Engi ne from Body and and save bolt s.) Lubrication: Lubricate Lubricate the "Zerk " fittings on #2 2 Drive Whe els , #2 5 Idler Wheels and #10 Bearings as you proceed with their respective assembly. assemb ly. Al l other bearings are sealed and "lifetime" lubricated. NOTE:
1. To standardize the manufacture manufact ure and and servicing of our line line of Mini-D Min i-D ozers, oze rs, we've we' ve kept components as interchangeable as possible possi ble between the two mod el series (MD1200 & MD 16 00 ). To clarify clarify your understanding, please note that that MD1200 series tractor tractors s cover models MD1207 & MD12 00 ; and that that MD1600 series tractors cover models MD1612 & MD1 600 . 2. As you proceed through the the various various assembly steps, step s, note that each step step refers to all model Mini-Dozers unless a specific model is noted within the step. 3. It is recommended that a Liquid Lock Sealant be applied to ALL set screws, scre ws, cap screws, nuts and anywhere else that is felt necessary to keep all stationary tractor parts snug snug and secure. secur e. (NOTE: DO NOT put on #2 0 Sprocket Sprocke t and Shaft ) Assembly: 1. Slide one one #12 Axl e through through 7/8" holes in rear of Body. Slide #22 Rear Drive Wheel on each end end of Axl e and then follow with two 7/8 WI Washers Washe rs over each Rear Axl e end (larg (large e sprocket sprocket to ou tsi de) . 2. Slide second #1 2 Axl e through through forward forward slots in Body . On each Axl e end, slide on approximately ten 7/8 7/8 WI Washers Washer s followed followed by #25 Front Idler Wheel (sprocket (sprocket to outside) ou tside) an and d finally finally two mor e 7/8 WI Washers Washe rs over each end end of Front Axle Ax le . 3. Slide #13 Track Expanders over ends ends of Front and Rear Axles as per assembly drawing (slotte (slotted d end end of Expander Expand er is f orw ard ). Slide 7/8 7/8 WI Washer Wash er over each end end of four four Axle Axl e ends and and secure secure with 7/8 7/8 Snap Rin gs. (NOTE: 7/8 WI Wash ers may be added or removed to to give best possible final fit and alignment. alignm ent. Check alignment of each sprocket with straightedge. NOTE: Tighten 3/83/8-16 16 Lock Lock Nut on #10C Pull just just enough enough to hold #10 Bearing in place, but do not over-tig over-tighten hten and and draw #10 Bearing Bearing up any furthe further r as it will caus cause e #38 Chain to be over-tighte over-tightened ned and and result result in premature wear of chain. Using 3/8-16 3/8-16 x 1 Cap Screws, attach one end of each #49 Spring to the outside of its respective #15D Arm secure with 3/8-1 3/8-16 6 Locknut but leave sufficiently sufficient ly loose so the Spring may rotate freely freely on Cap Screw. Remove #1 4 Pivot Rod Rod and attach attach remaining remaining ends of #4 9 Springs to their respective "inside" position position of #1S Clip using 3/83/8-16 16 x 1 Cap Screws and and Locknuts Locknuts similarly similarly as in Step #2 2. (Again, check that that all ends ends of #49 Springs can rotate freely!) Now you must properly properly adjust #2 8 Idler Wheel assemblies assemblies you assembled assembled above. Slide Wheel assemblies rearward (or forward as the case may be) so that the Clutch Control Handles can move forw forwar ard d and backward a total distance of approximately 4" as measured at the "handgri "handgrip" p" ends ends of #15 Con trol Handles . Make this travel equal in both Control Handles and then tighten each 3/8-16 x 3-1/4 Cap Screw (3/8-16 x 5 Cap Screw on MD1612 & MD 16 00 ). (Che (Check ck for for proper proper 90° angle of #1 6 Guides as explained explained in Clutch Assembly Step Step above.) NOTE: Check Check to mak e sure that that all four four #16 Guides ride with their "90° hooked hooked end" to the outsi outside de of their their #3 4 Belt . In proper proper operation, as a #2 8 Idler Wheel moves away from from tighten tightening ing a #3 4 Bel t, simultaneously the the "90° hooked hooked e nd" of its respective #16 Guide should should start start to hit the backsi de of the #3 4 Belt and start to pull it "i n" to eliminate eliminate any any excessive excessive slack and releas e its grip on #31 Pull ey. 25. Take Engine and and slide slide on "hub firs t" #3 2 Pulley onto Engine's Cranksh aft. 1/4 1/4 sq. x 1 Key into Pulley's hu b.

On 7 hp Engine: Install the two #1 7 Belt Guides using a 5/16 Lock Washer and and 5/16 WI Washer over ends of two 5/16-24 x 1 Cap Screws which are each inserted into "loop end" of #1 7 Belt Belt Gui des . Follow with second second 5/1 5/16 6 WI Washer on each and and then screw each Guide Assembly into the the two rear 5/16-24 threaded threaded holes in Engi ne Case - see "7 hp Engine - PTO View" Drawing Drawing for proper assembly; note that that " 90° hooked ends " of #17 Belt Guides point away from Engine Case. B. On 12 12 and and 16 hp Engine: Take #5 6 Baffle and and align align its two two 3/8 3/8 holes over over the top top two 3/83/8-16 16 threaded threaded holes in the engine's face. Insert 3/8-16 3/8-16 x 1-1/4 1-1/4 Cap Cap Screw into a 3/8 3/8 Lock Lock Washer followe followed d by a 3/8 WI Washer. Insert into "loop " of one #1 7 Belt Guide (90° "hooked" end pointing away from engine) and then into rear 3/8 hole of #56 Baffle engaging engaging Screw in (above) aligned threaded hole in engine face. Insert 3/8-16 3/8-16 x 3/4 Cap Cap Screw in a 3/8 Lock Washer and then a 3/8 3/8 WI Washer ; insert into remaining forward 3/8 hole in Baffle and engage threads in engine face - Tighten. Insert 3/83/8-16 16 x 1 Cap Screw into 3/8 3/8 Lock Washe r, 3/8 WI WI Washe r, and then into "loop" of second second #1 7 Belt Guide. Scre w this this assembly into lower lower rear 3/8-16 threaded threaded hole in engine's face face - keep 90° "hook ed" end end pointing away away from engine. (NOTE: Check Engi ne Assembly MD1 20 0, MD1612 & MD1 600 draw ing for proper assembly assembly of this step.) 26.
Install Install Engine in Engine Compartment of Tractor Tractor keeping the the Crankshaft on left side.
A. Mount 7 hp Engine Engine to Body's #1E Mount with four four 5/16-18 5/16-18 x 1 Cap Screws and and 5/16 WI Washers coming up from underside of #1E Mou nt and engaging engaging four four holes in mounting plate of Engin e. Secure Secure above with 5/16 5/16 WI Washers and 5/16-18 5/16-18 Lock nuts .
B. Moun t 12 & 16 hp Engine with 3/8-16 3/8-16 x 1 Cap Screws and and Lock Wash ers coming up from under side of #1E Moun t and and engaging engaging the 3/8-16 threads in bottom of eng ine. ine . In both case; case; above square Engine in Body (Crankshaf (Crankshaft t should be at approximately a 90° angle with the inside of the left left #1AL Body Body Wall ) and then tighten tighten the the four four Cap Cap Scre ws. At this point po int , loop loop the #33 Driv e Belt around around the #3 2 Pulley . 27 . Slide #2 Grill into front front of Body and align the four four 3/8" hole s. Insert 3/8-16 3/8-16 x 1-1/4 1-1/4 Cap Screw Scr ew into 3/8 3/8 WI Washer Washe r and then from outside body , insert cap screw into each of the four four 3/8" holes. On the the inside, secure with 3/8 3/8 WI Washer and and 3/8-16 3/8-16 Lockn ut. NOT E: If you have the ligh light t kit , install the #18 Light Brackets Brackets on the outside of Body Walls using the the above assembly. (Check (Check Dr aw in g) . 28 . Insert #4 2 Throttle Control into the 9/16 9/16" " hole on the left left of #1 C Brac e. Secure belo w with Lock Washer and and Nut provided. Using the "Throttle Control Wir e" Drawing for your particular Engine Horsepower, slide the wire "casing" into its its respective Bowden Wire Clamp at the the Throttle Throttle on Engi ne. Enga ge the offset offset end end of Bowden's "inner Wir e" into the 1/16" 1/16" hole in your particular Engin e Throttle Throttle lever. With #4 2 Throttle Control Handl Ha ndl e pushed pushed all the way in, the Throttle Thro ttle Lever Lev er should should be pushed pushed to the slow (idle positi on) so that the the throttle on the the carburetor carbureto r is closed and and resting against the idle adjustment screw. No w, tighten the Bowde n Wir e Clamp. 29. On 7 hp Engine (only ): Attach the 3/16 ID loop loop ends of #6Z and 6Y Wires to #51 (on-off) Switch. (Note (Note wire positions in Dra win g) from inside Tractor Bo dy, insert insert Switch into left left front front 1/2" 1/2" hole follo followed wed by "on-off" switch switch plate. Tur n Switch so "on" is forwar forward d and and secure secure with nut provid ed. Check Step #2 8: Pulling up on Handle of #4 2 Control should should open the Throttle Lever to the "fast" position. (NOTE; To hold a particular Throttle setting, give the control a 1/4 turn to lock in place). 30 . Insert the shorter shorter #43 Choke Control into the the remaining remaining 9/16 9/16" " hole on right of #1C Bra ce. Secure below with Nut and Lock Was her . Run Control "casing" rearward and loop loop around inside #1M #1 M Baffle and insert into Bowden Bowde n Wire Clamp mounted to clip bolted to Engine's housing. Engage "offset "offset end" of Bowden's Inner Wire into hole on Engine Choke Lever above carburetor. (NOTE: (NOTE: Do not use hole in middle of "arrow" on Choke Lever.) With #43 #4 3 Choke Control pushed in, the Choke Lever should should rotate toward the Air Cleaner and stop. At this this poin t, tighten the Bowden Wire Clamp. Check Choke Con tro l, pulling out #43 Control Handle shoul should d rotate Choke Lever so that that it stops at a point perpendicular to the engine Crankshaft. 31 . On 7 hp Engine only; Pull up on Engi ne Starter Starter Rope and and tie a "loop knot " to keep it from retracting. Remove Handle from rope and and inset inset rope through through 3/8" grommet above recoil starter. Reassemble Handle on rope end end and and remove knot to allow rope to recoil. Insert "plug" end of #6Y Wire onto "spade" terminal mounted to Engine frame located beneath gas tank. 32 A. Exhaust 7 hp Engine: Following "Engine Assembly" - MD120 7 draw ing, screw 3/4 3/4 x 1" Reducer Nipple onto 1" pipe Nipple welded to #1E Mou nt. In 3/4" end of Reduc er, screw screw in 3/4" Pip e Nipple - tighten both. Take 3/4" inside inside diameter #3 9 Flexible Exhaust Tube and and insert over over the 3/4" Nipple on Red ucer ; take other other end of #39 Tube and slip over the 3/4" Pipe Nipple screwed screwed into 45° Street Street Elbow on Engine . Screw #4 4 Bulb Muffler onto end end of 1" Pip e Nipple (protrud (protruding ing below bottom of #1 E Moun t) as tightly tightly as possib le. B. Exhaust 12 & 16 hp Engine: Followi ng "Engine "Engine Assembl y" - MD 12 00 , MD16 12 and and MD1 600 draw ing, take 1" inside diameter #3 9 Flexible Exhaust Tube and insert over the 1" Pipe Pip e Nipple Nipp le coming from engine's exhaus exh aus t; take other other end end of #3 9 Tube and slip over over the 1" Street Elbow coming from muffler assembly welded to #2 Grill Assembly.
NOTE: It will help help if before installation installation you grip one one end end of the #3 #39 9 Tube with your left left hand hand and and the other end end with your right; righ t; then viewing either end of the Tube, twist it clockwise clockwise this this will increase its inside diameter and make it slip easily over over its respective Pipe Nipples. After installation, twist the Tube ends counter-clockwise counter-clockwise an and d they will grip grip the the Nipples firmly. Secure both ends of Tube with Hose Clamps provided. 33. On elect electric ric start start tractors, tractor s, place #6 Battery Battery Box in rear rear of Left #10L #10 L Footwell. Align the holes holes and and slot slot in #6 #6C C Brace on bottom of #6 Box with the 5/16" holes in #10L Footwell and #1AL Body Wa ll . Insert each of two 5/16-18 x 3/4 Cap Screws into 5/16 5/16 Lock Washer and and then into into 5/16 WI Washer Was her. . Take these Screws and and insert them into into the the two holes in #6C Brace and and pass p ass through through the "aligned" 5/16" holes in #1AL Body Wal l. Secure these Screws inside Body Bod y by engaging them into the two 5/16-18 threaded holes in #11 Gusset - Tighten. (Check (Check Drawing - make sure 7/8" 7/8" hole in #11 Gusset is visible visible at at en end d of 7/8" slot in #1AL Wall .) 34 . If you do not have have electric starting, just assemble assemble #1 #11 1 Gusset as per above, but eliminate eliminate reference reference to #6 Battery Box. On right right rear top top side side of Body, Bod y, mount second second #1 1 Gusset using using same same "Cap Screw" procedure as in Step #3 3. NOTE : This "right side" side" #1 #11 1 Gusset must be removed and and its 7/8" hole slid onto lift handle hand le of #BH-100 #BH- 100 Rear Hitch or ML-40 ML- 40 Lift Lift Mechanism when these attachments attachments are used.
