One cautionary note: To make your job sound, impressive and meaningful there is a need of boasting. If you puff up recognizable positions with over-the-top language, it can really backfire and make you seem silly.

Some people write a resume as if the purpose of the document was to land a job. As a result they end up with a really long and boring piece that makes them look like desperate job hunters. The objective of your resume is to land an interview, and the

HOW TO BUILD
A
GEODOME GREENHOUSE
Our GeoDome building building experience for for anyone who wants to build a GeoDome
elcome! My husband and I both grew up on mostly sel!suicient homesteads and had to learn early on how to grow and preserve ood and care or animals. We lived a simple lie and made the most with what we had. "rban homesteading was what our parents did and what we considered to be the normal lie. Ater moving around and seeing a lot o this world we strive to go back to this simple #normal lie$ o urban homesteading. %ead more about it on www.northernhomestead.com We are in Alberta& Canada ' (one )A. *ep& it$s cold here+ When it comes to gardening in colder climates& a greenhouse is almost a must have. It e,tends the growing season and gives the plants a lot more heat. With a greenhouse& we can actually pick ripe tomatoes here and grow some plants that we would not be able to without one. A greenhouse can also be a great place to hang out on those cool spring days and summer nights. When we started to look out or one to build& our e,pectations were very high. In a northern garden we have to deal with rost& nasty winds and hail& and also loads o snow in the winter. -ur days in spring and all don$t have much direct sunlight so we need to catch every sunbeam we can. lus& we live in town and the greenhouse in our small back yard needed to be somehow catchy. o

In our research we came across the GeoDome greenhouse /ery uni0ue& lightweight structure 1table in wind and under snow -ptimal light absorption 2as the most growing ground space A uni0ue hang!out place An eye catcher
The GeoDome greenhouse seemed to be 3ust what we were looking or. 1ince there is no oundation and this structure can be portable or temporary& we did not need any permits and would be able to take it with us i we would move. 1o it$s all good+ 4ut& how to build a GeoDome greenhouse5 o o o o o o
What materials to use5 What plan to go by5 What tools needed5 2ow to do the cutting5 2ow to assemble the GeoDome5 2ow to cover the GeoDome5
We looked at do6ens o how!to instructions and even bought a pricy e!4ook 7with very little value8. 4ut all together it helped us build the GeoDome we have and love. Thanks to my dear husband& who did all the researching and building. 2ere we share our e,periences so you too can build a GeoDome greenhouse i so desired.
Wood. We used untreated spruce lumber& and stained it beore assembling. *ou could also use Douglas 9ir which is more durable. 1crews& about a pound Covering. We used greenhouse plastic that was given to us rom a commercial greenhouse. lastic rom a commercial greenhouse can be easily reused on a dome& since there is not so much pressure on it& and it can last another )!: years. *ou can also cover the dome with shrink oil& polycarbonate& or bubble 1olawrap; oil. Automatic window openers and hinges or the door and the windows.
GeoDome plans Acidome is one o the best GeoDome calculators we were able to ind on the Internet. Although it$s in %ussian it can be translated using Google Translate at the top o the page. The Geodesic re0uency or a Dome can be & )/& =/. A smaller dome can have a lower re0uency> or our ?@ dome we chose the )/ re0uency. Anything bigger then ?@ should be =/. Beep also in mind that whatever the width o dome is& it will be hal that in height. 9or e,ample& our ?@ dome is high plus the ? pony wall.
The challenge with a )/ Dome is that the red struts at the bottom o the dome as shown above are <.E longer then all other red struts. Most plans on the Internet do not do this little ad3ustment and end up with an uneven bottom. 1ure& it is possible to level the oundation& but much easier to ad3ust the length o the ?F red struts on the bottom& always in between the pentagons
Why did we go with )/ even though it is the more complicated version5 We had a spot or an ?@ dome. To have that si6e in would make the triangles too big and too small with =/. I you want to avoid the problem o leveling in a )/ dome and have the space& go with a bigger si6e in =/ re0uency+ -nce we had the plan& we printed it out in color so it was helpul on the 3ob site.
#utting the struts 9irst we had to cut the <,Hs to < wide struts. *our lumber store might be willing to do this or you. Ideally& a radial arm saw is preerred because it can make very precise cuts& even compound cuts or each strut. We used a miter saw with the stops removed and it also did a good 3ob ' precision is key with timber struts. And because precision is important to us we went with the metric system. 2ere$s the link or our dome si6eJ Acidome.ru

?. Alphabetic inde, o the struts <. Kumber o struts o this type ). The numeric designation si6e verte, to which this edge rests on this end =. The value o a lat angle to the plane o the outer edge :. The value o the dihedral angle between the outer plane o the edge and the plane o the cut
Assembling the GeoDome -ur GeoDome has no oundation. The pony wall sits directly on the ground. -nly to level the dome we had to dig a trench on one side. We have had some nasty winds and also loads o snowJ The dome is stable in wind and snow.
We built a ? t high pony wall. With a pony wall you will gain some height& especially or a small dome it can be very important. 1ome users make a pony wall up to ) t high. -ur pony wall is a simple rame structure covered with plastic. -nce the pony wall was built and leveled we started assembling the dome. It$s a bit like playing ego on a bigger scale& ollowing the plan. The strut 3oints are being held in place by screws as indicated on the graphic below.
We recommend pre!drilling all the holes so the wood does not split. There is a lot o drilling and screwing to do and lots o screws are needed. 4ut the process is rather simple and the outcome is a very rigid structure. Click on the graphic to enlarge it.
We assembled the top o the dome separately and installed it as one piece. It was a bit heavy and challenging. We would not recommend it. It is simpler to assemble the dome strut by strut.
#o$ering the GeoDome Covering a dome can be tricky because o the shape. Cutting the plastic or ) acets in a row worked the best. Acidome also calculates nicely the si6e o the acets& which is especially important or more valuable coverings. With our ree plastic cover we simply laid the struts on the plastic and cut the
9irst we stapled the plastic to the struts and then used the ? cm planks to hold it in place& which also pointed out the structure o the GeoDome even more. We like it . *ou can also see in the picture how sturdy the structure is+
Door and indows We built the door right into a pentagon& as you see in the picture it has two vertical struts as doorposts. We really like it that way. It does not interrupt the shape o the dome& which is perect especially in winter with all the snow that 3ust slides o the dome. It also allows us access to the dome even with snow still on the ground& and in the summer it gives us an additional opening at the bottom even i we have to close the door because o severe weather& which is a bonus& too. Click on the picture to enlarge it.
-ur dome has two windows& both with automatic window openers. 2owever& i not using a cooling system& two windows are not enough. We built the door and the windows rom the same struts as the structure and covered them with plastic.
ater Tank In our GeoDome greenhouse we have a <@F gallon water tank.
We built the tank out o two = t , @ t sheets o plywood. The sheets are held together on the short sides and pushed apart in the middle& orming a ship shape. The water pushes the sheets apart& too. The dirt stabili6es the lower part& the topside o the plywood is being held by a metal band. There is a lot o water to hold.
We lined the tank irst with tarp& and than with = layers o = mil black plastic. It lasted or two growing seasons. The reason why it ripped was partly because o the ice that builds up in the winter. -ur rost comes so suddenly that one year we hadn$t emptied the tank on time and ice had built up. The second year we were on time& but there is always a bit o water let. This spring we e,changed the black plastic with < layers o H!mil clear construction plastic. - course to line the tank with special pond liner would be better& but our dome is on a rented lot so we did not want to spend so much on it.
9or iltration we built a simple water ilter !a bucket illed with sponges. 4acteria build$s up in there and cleanses the tank naturally. The pump is a small ountain pump that does the 3ob well.
Acti$e heating and cooling system -ur water tank is also a base or an active heating and cooling system through a radiator. To use a heater can be costly. A simple used car radiator does the trick or us. A car radiator works by cooling the air through the water during the day and warming the air at night through the same water that has been warmed up during the day. 1imply whenever the water is cooler then the air& it cools and when it$s warmer it heats.
Ko& it$s not really a beautiul piece in the greenhouse& but the unctionality outweighs that by ar.
#onclusion We hope all this inormation inspires you to build your very own GeoDome Greenhouse. And i you do& please come and share it with us on *ou 1hare. I you have any more 0uestions& do not hesitate to contact us on www.northernhomestead.com Be inspired and enjoy your very own GeoDome Greenhouse to its absolute fullest.
