(Kanyon)

The word ‫יוֹן‬ְ‫ַנ‬‫( ק‬kanyon), mall, is a relatively new one in the Hebrew language. Until about 30 years ago, there weren’t actually any malls in Israel, so people didn’t need a word for them! The word is based on the root letters ‫ה‬-‫נ‬-‫ק‬ meaning to buy. There is another hebrew word that looks and sounds exactly the same: ‫יוֹן‬ְ‫נ‬  ַ‫ק‬, which means canyon . However, since Israelis don’t really use the word canyon on a daily basis, very few people mix the two words up (or show up at a
